Outdoor Learning

Different outdoor learning experiences offer opportunities for personal and learning skills development in areas such as communication, problem solving, information technology, working with others and thinking skills. Learning in the outdoors can make significant contributions to literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing. Therefore, outdoor learning offers many opportunities for learners to deepen and contextualise their understanding within curriculum areas, and for linking learning across the curriculum in different contexts and at all levels.

(Learning and Teaching Scotland, 2010)

At irkhill Primary we strive to provide regular outdoor learning experiences for all our children.  As a school we have a fantastic outdoor space which can be used across the curriculum to develop our children socially, emotionally and academically. During last session we had a super Science Garden added to our fantastic Eco garden and we can’t wait to explore here and other areas of our
school grounds!

To allow all pupils to access outdoor learning in the changeable Scottish weather, we would appreciate the children bringing in outdoor clothing (wellies, rain jackets and trousers) on days they will be learning outdoors. Class teachers will let you know via the class blogs the days that these are required so that
you can keep them at home on other days.  Also, if you have any spare items which your child is not using any more and you are happy to give these to the school, please put this in a bag with it clearly labelled as spare clothing for the school to allow items to be shared with our families
.

Thank you in advance with your support with outdoor learning and please get in touch if you have any questions. This support will allow our children to have a fantastic time learning outdoors come rain or shine!

Homework 26th August 2019

P6 World Cup Event

We had great fun today at the P6 world cup event with some other schools from the authority. We were trying out different sports like football, rugby, judo, archery, cricket and dance!

Homework w/c 20th May 2019

Here is P6b’s two week homework task. Try to complete as many of the ’50 things to do before you are 11 3/4′ checklist you have been given in class and then bring some evidence in for MONDAY 3rd JUNE. Due to being at the Creativity Challenge all day on Friday 31st May, homework will be collected on Monday instead.

Hopefully you can have some fun with this task over the long weekend!

Sky Studios Trip

On the 14th of May primary 6b went to sky academy to create a trailer for a sci -fi movie. We were all given certain jobs such as editor actor director and a few more. It was very fun to see how the trailers that we see at home are actually made. It was also really fun to use the equipment and get dressed up and perform in front of the camera. At the end we got to view everyone’s trailers they were all great and you could see everyone had contributed to their teams.

P6b Update

P6b have been incredibly busy over the last few days! We have been working hard at our creativity challenge at Mearns Primary School, having lots of fun designing and creating outfits based on an aspect of science and technology! We have been working with pupils and staff from Mearns Primary, Eaglesham Primary and Calderwood Lodge Primary.

We are also looking forward to our class trip to Sky Studios tomorrow! (Please remember to bring a packed lunch!)

We are hoping to get some photos up of all the exciting things we have been doing soon, so stay tuned! Also, we would love to welcome our parents and carers along to the school on Wednesday 29th May for our class assembly, where we will be sharing lots about what has been going on in P6b!

Finally, here are some more photos from the run up to our P6b elections. Congratulations to The Jaguars who won the elections! Well done to everyone in P6b too as they all worked incredibly hard during this topic!
