P6 World Cup Event

We had great fun today at the P6 world cup event with some other schools from the authority. We were trying out different sports like football, rugby, judo, archery, cricket and dance!

P6b Update

P6b have been incredibly busy over the last few days! We have been working hard at our creativity challenge at Mearns Primary School, having lots of fun designing and creating outfits based on an aspect of science and technology! We have been working with pupils and staff from Mearns Primary, Eaglesham Primary and Calderwood Lodge Primary.

We are also looking forward to our class trip to Sky Studios tomorrow! (Please remember to bring a packed lunch!)

We are hoping to get some photos up of all the exciting things we have been doing soon, so stay tuned! Also, we would love to welcome our parents and carers along to the school on Wednesday 29th May for our class assembly, where we will be sharing lots about what has been going on in P6b!

Finally, here are some more photos from the run up to our P6b elections. Congratulations to The Jaguars who won the elections! Well done to everyone in P6b too as they all worked incredibly hard during this topic!

P6 Term 4 Curriculum News 2019

Election Day 3

It’s day 3 and the parties have all started their posters and the Premier Party have re-branded themselves as the Jaguars. The atmosphere is really nervous because elections are almost a week away! On Friday 26th April, the party leaders will each give a speech to the P4s who will vote for there favourite. The winning party will get to pick the seating arrangements in the P6b class for one week!

Work is still continuing on the political campaigns, most of the parties are not yet finished, but… The competition is on!

Ask an Expert

This week we spent time teaching each other different skills in maths and numeracy. We each became “experts” in different areas of maths or numeracy and planned our own activities and lessons for others in our class to learn from. We had lessons on time, measure, perimeter, area, algebra, fractions, decimal numbers and much more!

Science Week

For Science week, primary 6 did a lot of things! We enjoyed making posters for other classes to see about  one of our previous science topics, e.g. food chains and webs, space -which most people thoroughly enjoyed-, electricity, where a lot of people had creative ideas and suggestions!

We also went to see primary 7’s exhibition in each of their classes! They had different things that people like, for example, slime, volcano eruptions and ooblec! No surprise, everyone got their hand dug in and got very involved! No sign of a dull moment!

P6 made boats and tested them in groups out of ONLY paper and cardboard! We had to put weights in the boats and see how much they could hold in the water.  We thoroughly enjoyed it too!  They mostly held a whopping total of 700 grams!

‘It was great fun! My boat was so big, we had to use a completely different bucket!’ – Inarah

My boat was medium size and  it nearly SANK!’ – Zenya

We all had a great time!

The Great Wall of China

We have been finding out about one of the seven wonders of the world – The Great Wall of China.

To do this we carried out research  online and made notes  of our findings under headings. We then selected the most important facts to display on a poster.

Here are some of our finished posters full of interesting facts and displayed creatively.

Science Challenge

On Monday, P6b kicked off science week with a technology challenge. Everyone worked hard in their teams to design and build a boat using only cardboard, sellotape and tinfoil! The boats were then put to the test in the water and were weighted down to see if they would float or sink. We had great fun making our boats and then testing them!

Working hard on our boat design!
We needed to work as a team.
Starting to build our boat.
The Tintanic managed to stay afloat with the weights aboard.
Hopefully Crackers Ship doesn’t sink!

We have started out China topic

So far in our topic on China we have learned:

  • How to write our names and happy new year in Mandarin.
  • About the 12 years and what animal represents the year we were born in.
  • About how to celebrate Chinese New Year and The Lantern Festival.
  • How to draw bamboo plants, Chinese Lanterns and Banners.
  • That their lucky colours are red and yellow.
  • All about The Great Wall Of China.

“I really enjoyed our  topic on China and have learned so much about Chinese culture. :)”
