Research

Primary 3 have been doing lots of research on The Sun, Moon and Stars. This week we worked in groups and began creating our presentations.

“I have learnt that there are 100 billion stars in the sky” – C

“We have been successful in researching in groups” – A

“When you work in teams you can collect more facts” – S

“My group was making a power point this week on The Sun and next week we will move on to The Moon” – K

“We have been creating posters about The Sun, Moon and stars. We wrote facts next to the pictures we drew” – O

Next week primary 3 will complete their research and we are planning to present it to our class. We will invite Mr Curley and Miss McCabe to watch our presentations.

Sumdog

Over the past few weeks we have used sumdog in class and at home to practise our maths skills. We have our own log in and passwords to access our own accounts. You can access sumdog on a website or download the app (it’s free!).

“Sumdog is an online game with maths questions. I like sumdog because it’s a great maths challenge.” – Sophie

“Sumdog is a good game because it’s fun but also makes you better at mental maths.” – Austin

“I don’t think it should be called Sumdog. I think it should be called fundog!” – Ivy R

“Sumdog is a really fun game because there are a lot of questions. We can see the top 5 pupils in our class and earn house points as a reward.” – Christopher

Sumdog is a safe game online and nobody can talk to you. It is only used for learning new skills. We will be using Sumdog in class and at home as maths revision.

How we learn best!

Primary 3 have been discussing how we learn best. We have decided that we all have different learning styles. Some of us learn best through visual, audio or verbal styles. We have selected our preferred learning style and formed groups to work with. We have started research on our topic Sun, Moon and Stars and in a few weeks we will present our work to our class.

“I have chosen a verbal learning style. My group are all very kind and good at working together” – Ruairi

“We will make a power point about the sun, moon and stars” – Andrew

“I have enjoyed doing research for Sun, Moon and stars. My group is making a power point to share our learning with the class” – Amy

“We will have costumes and will act out parts of the Moon, Sun and the Stars to share facts about these” – Iona

Here are some pictures of Primary 3 doing research in our groups.

We can tell the time!

This week in maths we have been learning about time. We have been recognising o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Also we have been working in pairs to recognise digital time.

“I enjoyed doing quarter past and quarter to because they were hard and I like challenges.” – Christopher

“I have learnt how to tell the time when it is quarter past and quarter to. Now I can tell the time easily.” – Sophie

“After lots of practice I am able to recognise the time easily.”

“I like to learn about time because now when I wake up I can tell the time.” – Olivia

Our challenge this weekend is to recognise and remember the time  when we do something exciting and share this with our news on Monday.
