This week among other things we’ve been making children’s picture books ahead of World Book Day where we plan to share them with a younger class. We looked at examples, discussed plots and then started work on our books.

As always those not featured in the blog have asked for the photo not be included (or others in the photo have).

We marked internet safety day with a live lesson and some activities about avoiding scams. We made up our own scams and tried to spot the tell tale signs and then we designed some posters.

As always, if anyone asks not to have a photo on the blog I don’t post them.

We have been investigating speed, distance and time in maths. We did some activities in the playground where we calculated speed by measuring the distance and time of different activities. We also made marble runs in class and found out the speed of the marbles through the run.

We’ve had a busy time this week. We completed some writing about AI, learnt some more rugby skills, coded some games and worked on our French guide booklets.

With Burns Night and Chinese New Year approaching we were inspired by the artist Sarah Kwang to combine Scottish and Chinese images into pieces of art. We’ll post the finished products soon!

We’ve had a busy couple of weeks back since the holidays. We’ve started a new topic looking at democracy and rights. We have begun learning about the fight for votes for women and comparing the tactics of the Suffragettes and the Suffragists. We started by discussing why democracy and voting are important and learnt about who could and couldn’t vote in the UK in the past.

We did some research and created posters comparing the two organisations campaigning for votes for women:

We had another busy week, continuing our WWII topic, having our last P.E session till the new year at Eastwood and helping out at the present room.

Maths 

In maths this week we have been doing a variety of stuff including angles and data handling. For data handling we searched up information of a thing you wanted to do and made it into a line graph.  

Literacy 

In literacy we have been looking at WW2 comprehension things. In writing we made a letter pretending we were an evacuee. 

IDL  

For our topic, we had on the first day made blitzkrieg paintings (also known as lightning war) and added buildings flashlights and other World War 2 related items.

Mr. Flood hung up photos of evacuees and we had to go round with a worksheet where we wrote what was happening. Then we learnt more about evacuees’ experience. 

We’ve really been getting into our WWII topic this week. So far we’ve looked at graphs related to WWII, read an account of the evacuation, read an extract of Anne Frank’s diary, created time lines, learnt about the leaders, made propaganda posters and more. This week we tried out some new maths games to build numeracy and problem solving skills. These will be great to play as independent tasks this year.
