Maths Week Scotland

Last week for maths week Scotland, we went for a nature walk then set up our own nature stalls. We priced each item under £20 and had a go at being ‘merchants’ as well as customers. At time there was a 10% sale so we had to work out 10% off the price. It was lots of fun!

A walk through Paris

For French this week, we explored the talents of sign makers in France. We had the opportunity to see some examples and then created our own signs in the style of those sign makers.

We had to use our maths skills, problem solving, expressive arts and literacy. Can you guess what some of these signs are for?

Greek Salad

Today we made a Greek salad in class. We had the chance to follow a recipe to make our very own Greek Salad as part of our mini topic!

We get to take them home to share with our families!

Greek Gods and structures

This week we had the chance to work collaboratively to create our very own Greek Gods. We have had a variety of different ideas within our class including:

Hungerous – The god of food

Matilda – The god of books

Portoro – The god of shapeshifting

Emitus – The god of time.

Structures

We learnt about different statues and structures from Ancient Greece including the Parthenon. We even had a group attempt to remake one using KAPLA and we think they did a pretty amazing job!

A walk through Ancient Greece

We have been busy with our mini topic! We have enjoyed linking our learning across the different curricular areas to our mini topic. Here are a few things we have been up to:

Maths

We looked at Stomachion puzzles as created by Archimedes and had to create different shapes using only 14 pieces from the Stomachion square. This was extremely challenging and taught us about persevering and never giving up.

Literacy

We have learned about Greek Gods/Goddesses and had a go at creating our own. We then wrote poems using an Ancient Greece theme.

STEM

As part of our learning through play on a Friday afternoon, we had a chance at building structures from Greece, chariots and even made some wreaths.

First week in Primary 7B!

What a busy start to the year! Here is a glimpse of what we have been up to.

Cloud busting and Emotions poetry.

We have started reading Cloud Busting and are enjoying all the poetry. We even had a go at writing our own poems and chose an emotion to focus on. We included similes as well as personification.

Kapla – Design your dream school

We worked in teams and collaborated to create our dream school using Kapla. Each school was different and unique in its own way. We used our creativity skills and added areas to our school.

STEM challenge – Problem solving

We were set a challenge to create a name tag using only a paper clip, a card, string and a pipe cleaner. It took us a bit of time of time but we got there in the end!

Ancient Greece

We have started our mini topic on Ancient Greece. So far we have explored the daily life during this time and had a chance to hear some famous myths including:

  • Story of Medusa
  • Cyclops
  • King Midas
