Over the last few weeks we have thoroughly enjoyed learning stories from world religions including: Christianity, Islam and Judaism. We have explored the moral of the different stories and trying to link them to life lessons.

We have looked at similarities and differences between these stories across the religions and have been very surprised at how similar things really are. Such as the morals and values.

We have explored:

Adam and Eve (Hawa)

Noah (Nuh pbuh) and the great flood

David and Goliath (Dawud and Jalut)

We have also been extremely lucky to have 2 visitors that have kindly came in to share the story of Abraham. Reverend Lazonby came in to teach us about the story of Abraham while Ibrahim’s dad came in to teach us about the story of prophet Ibrahim (pbuh).

This week we started our learning journey about stories from Bible. We started with reading the story of Adam and Eve and compared it to the version in Islam.

We took part in a mock trial which included a defense and persecution team for Adam, Eve and the serpent.

This week we have working on Team Building skills and how to work better in a team.

We have explored the importance of roles, communication, collaboration, time management and problem solving. Here are a few of the tasks we had to complete.

Name Line in silence – We had to work together to form a line in alphabetical order but silently!

Paper chain – In teams of 5, we were given one piece of A4 paper, 2 scissors and 1 glue stick and we had to create the longest paper chain within 10 minutes! The time pressure was challenging.

Boat challenge – In teams of 5, we had to solve a problem. We needed to use recycled materials to create a boat that would hold toy animals without sinking!

What a wonderful first term! Ending it with lots of festive activities and joy! See you all next year!

Last week we had the opportunity to visit the National Museum of Rural Life! We had a chance to see the farm animals and even met a baby calf!

This week for writing, we have started looking at instructional writing.

We explored features of recipes by looking for vocabulary used in Mr Flood’s cook books.

We created our own word bank, then wrote our own recipes for an onion soup!

We just finished our mini country comparison topic on Canada.

During this topic we:

• Compared animals from Scotland and Canada and learned how different  adaptations make animals more suited for different climates and habitats.
• Wrote a persuasive letter to Mrs McGuigan to persuade her to let us have a school trip to Canada.
• Researched foods from Canada – maple syrup in particular.
• Today we ended it with enjoying some pancakes with maple syrup ourselves!

Last week for Art week, we watched a video titled ‘Alma’ from Literacy Shed. We then wrote a character description using everything we have learnt over the last few weeks. To go along with the spooky theme, we looked at the work of Tim Burton, and created our own ‘dolls’ (based on the Alma video) using charcoal and shading.  They turned out pretty amazing. To go along with our spooky theme, we even started reading our class novel ‘Invisible Fiends – Mr Mumbles’ which we are absolutely loving so far!

Happy Halloween!

Last week for maths week Scotland, we went for a nature walk then set up our own nature stalls. We priced each item under £20 and had a go at being ‘merchants’ as well as customers. At time there was a 10% sale so we had to work out 10% off the price. It was lots of fun!

For French this week, we explored the talents of sign makers in France. We had the opportunity to see some examples and then created our own signs in the style of those sign makers.

We had to use our maths skills, problem solving, expressive arts and literacy. Can you guess what some of these signs are for?
