Year of the Snake!

Sarah Kwan

For the Chinese new year this week, we have been working on multiculturalism art inspired by Sarah Kwan by mixing the Scottish and Chinses culture together to create a piece of art. We then wrote a paragraph to explain what we had chosen and it’s link to both cultures.

Mrs Rasul shared the final art with Sarah Kwan, who reposted them on her social media! She was very very impressed indeed. Here are a few examples:

The Traitors

We have also started a class game of traitors this week. This will go on for a few weeks and is inspired by the BBC tv show! More to follow…

Defending Democracy

Defending Democracy

This week we started our new topic, Defending Democracy, and we learnt about the Suffragettes and Suffragists. Mrs Rasul played a trick on us and told us we can vote for our next P.E. topic, but then said only the girls could vote.  The boys were confused and a little angry and this is how our topic started. We worked in pairs to research information about the 2 groups and made a comparison table. It was interesting to learn about some of the methods they used to get women the right to vote.

Discursive writing

We started our writing block on discursive writing and started by writing about whether or not Jack (from Jack and the Beanstalk) was guilty or innocent for what he did to the giant. We looked at different sentence openers and using quotes from ‘experts’. This was a fun piece of writing.

Angles in triangles

For maths we learned how to calculate missing angles in triangles. We looked at:

  • Right angle triangles
  • Scalene triangles
  • Equilateral triangles
  • isosceles triangles.

What a busy week in Primary 7b!

First week in 2025

We have been back for a week and what a busy week it has been.

Here are a few of the things we have been up to:

Northern Light

We created 2025 calendars using oil pastels and paint then creating a Northern Lights scene. We also had a chance to learn a little bit about a photographer who travelled for 10 years to capture the perfect pictures of the Northern Lights!

Substance Misuse

For our health and wellbeing topic, we have been exploring healthy and unhealthy choices. This week we looked at the effects of smoking on our bodies and internal organs. We worked in pairs to research and display these around a human skeleton.

3D shape

We have been learning about the properties of 3D shapes, including their edges, vertices and faces. We looked at different prisms and ways to remember their names.

Last week before the Winter holidays!

Our last week of 2024 at school. And what a busy week it has been!

Christmas Party

We had our Christmas party on Tuesday and danced the afternoon away. We had some competition amongst the P7s with games of:

  • Corners
  • Musical bumps
  • Musical Statues
  • Limbo

End of our WW2 topic

To finish off our topic, we worked in groups to research and create PowerPoints based on a WW2 subtopic of our own. This was really good as we got to choose what we wanted to research. We then presented it back to the class using our amazing presentation skills. Mrs Rasul was very impressed.

Lily also brought in an Anderson shelter, made by her brother for when he was school. She presented it to the class. It was very impressive!

Sweet Treat

Mrs Rasul gave us a sweet treat to end the last day of this year. We had pancakes with our choice of toppings! What a sweet way to end the last week before the winter holidays!

Last week of November!

What another busy busy week! Here is a little recap of all that we have been up to!

World War 2 – Evacuees

We learned about what the experience of an evacuee was like during WW2 and the process of being evacuated. We had a chance to hear real recounts from people who were evacuees during the war and read about different scenarios and situations. We then went on to create information posters to include:

  • What evacuees packed in their case
  • Where they went to live
  • What their identity cards looked like.
  • What they might have written in a letter.
  • Propaganda posters convincing parents to send their children to rural areas.

Harper very kindly brought in some things from her great great grandfather’s memories. This included an identity card and some photos. It was lovely to hear all about!

Diary entry – recount

This week we started our recount writing and began by writing a diary entry. We watched an animated clip from a battle scene at the Normandy beaches and used our 5 senses to create sentences about the video. We then used these sentences to create a diary entry in the view of a soldier. These turned out amazing!

We also then created sketches of toys and objects that were at the end of the scene. These will be used in our new literacy display.

Health and Wellbeing

For health and wellbeing we looked at what it means to have a healthy lifestyle. We learned the importance of:

  • a balanced diet
  • sleep
  • hydration
  • exercise and activity
  • relaxation and mental health

We then created a healthy tips video with a partner which we will continue next week.

Book Week Scotland

Book Week Scotland

This week we have been celebrating Book Week Scotland. This year the theme was hope. We worked in groups to create a book chain with books that we have read. and that we feel have a theme of hope in them.

Some of the books included:

Wonder: Hope of making friends and being accepted.

Harry Potter: A story not just of magic, but of friendship, love, bravery, and, most of all, of hope and love.

WW2

We also learned about the Blitz during WW2. We created fact sheets on Google slides and also created a Blitz art using paints and black paper for building silhouettes. These turned out great.

World War 2 topic

Last week we presented our inventions to Miss Tenby and finished our Apprentice topic! This week we have started our WW2 topic and it has been a busy one!

Time line of key events

We worked in pairs to research key events from World War 2. Different events including:

  • Germany invading Poland
  • The Battle of France
  • The Blitz
  • The Dambusters Raid

We then created a big class timeline for our topic wall.

Allies and Axis

After completing our timeline we spent an afternoon learning about the allies and the axis. We then used atlases to plot the different allies and axis by giving it a key.

Propaganda posters

As part of our persuasive writing unit, we explored different propaganda posters that were used during WW2 to persuade people to:

  • stop wasting food,
  • send their children to the countryside
  • work in factories (women)
  • reuse clothes
  • grow their own food.

Then we had a go at creating our very own propaganda posters!

Invention task

We are now at our final task for our Apprentice topic. This is where we will combine all the skills that we have used and developed over the last few weeks and bring it all together into one task.

In our teams, we have come up with one new invention and have been busy creating a logo, branding campaign, advertising campaign and pricing strategy. We have linked this with our writing and wrote a persuasive letter to Dragon’s Den to persuade them to invest in our product.

Next week we will present our invention pitches to another teacher who will score us based on our passion, presentation and product.

Sales Task – The Apprentice

First week back after the October week sure has been a busy one! This week we focussed on a sales task for our Apprentice topic. We had the challenge of selling biscuits for tokens. We had to:

  • Create a pricing strategy
  • Come up with special offers
  • Make posters for our stalls
  • Persuade/convince customers to buy from us.

Friday was day of selling and we set up our stalls then opened for business. Primary 7C came to buy from us and we went shopping in Primary 7A. It was so much fun!

Alma Week

We watched the short clip on Literacy shed called Alma and have completed many activities on this. For the last 2 weeks we have been exploring the character of Alma. Her appearance, her actions, her thoughts and her feelings. We explored the definitions of the words:

  • Temptation
  • Curiosity
  • Rebellion
  • Consequence

Then linked these to Alma and how she represented each one in the short movie. We then went on to write our very own character descriptions based on Alma.

Tim Burton

We made some lovely masterpieces inspired by Tim Burton. We linked this to our Alma project by creating doll portraits from the clip Alma. We used charcoal and created shadows and highlight on the faces. These turned out amazing!
