Last week of November!

What another busy busy week! Here is a little recap of all that we have been up to!

World War 2 – Evacuees

We learned about what the experience of an evacuee was like during WW2 and the process of being evacuated. We had a chance to hear real recounts from people who were evacuees during the war and read about different scenarios and situations. We then went on to create information posters to include:

  • What evacuees packed in their case
  • Where they went to live
  • What their identity cards looked like.
  • What they might have written in a letter.
  • Propaganda posters convincing parents to send their children to rural areas.

Harper very kindly brought in some things from her great great grandfather’s memories. This included an identity card and some photos. It was lovely to hear all about!

Diary entry – recount

This week we started our recount writing and began by writing a diary entry. We watched an animated clip from a battle scene at the Normandy beaches and used our 5 senses to create sentences about the video. We then used these sentences to create a diary entry in the view of a soldier. These turned out amazing!

We also then created sketches of toys and objects that were at the end of the scene. These will be used in our new literacy display.

Health and Wellbeing

For health and wellbeing we looked at what it means to have a healthy lifestyle. We learned the importance of:

  • a balanced diet
  • sleep
  • hydration
  • exercise and activity
  • relaxation and mental health

We then created a healthy tips video with a partner which we will continue next week.
