w/c 10th October by Rosie and Helena

On Monday we went over to Eastwood high school again to do PE with the sports leaders. We were split into six different groups, and each group has a particular sport we will be practising over the next few weeks. The different sports include hockey, tennis, netball, football, invasion games and rugby. In each group we built on the skills we learnt last week.

In writing we were finishing off our extreme earth fact files. Adding colour, information and lots of pictures and diagrams. There was a great variety of topics and layouts including volcanoes, earthquakes and hurricanes in booklets, trifolds and posters. They all looked great by the end of it!

In the woodland both classes were joined together and we were split into three groups to do different activities. Such as… knot tying, stick whittling (with potato peelers), drawing grids and marking coordinates with chalk and metre sticks and  then simply playing in the woodland.

On Tuesday we were reading more of our group novels and answering tricky questions. Then we moved onto spelling where we were working on common mistakes and definitions.

In maths we were working on percentages, fractions and decimals. We learnt that 20/100 = 20% or 0.2! Here is an example: you buy shoes for £1 but they’re 50/100 of the price that would be the same as 50%. So if the denominator is one hundred then the numerator will be your percentage.

On Wednesday we had our individual and sibling photos, so we all came in shiny and new. Then we learnt all about wildfires, we learnt about the conditions they happen in and the things they affect. Did you know 84% of them are caused by humans!

In literacy we were working on punctuation. We learned all the rules about speech marks and completed a worksheet where you had to add in capital letters, speech marks and other punctuation in their correct places.

On Thursday In maths we were working on percentages again. We chose to work with word problems or normal questions.

In literacy we were working on answering questions from a poem called “bullied” and explored why the poet used different phrases or words and if they had a good effect on the poem. We had a good chat at the end about what the moral was.

In the afternoon we had Mr Eadie. First we did music and we had loads of fun learning musical terms, scales and how to play “seven nation army” on the glockenspiels. Then we did art and were working on pictures inspired by Gaudi, an architect from Barcelona. We drew a simple outline then filled it with cut out bits of paper making sure to leave gaps.

On Friday we had our bikeability, We were on the roads for the morning learning how to be safe on them. We learnt a safe start, safe stop, U turn and a left signal. When we got back we did a bit of net ball in PE with Mr Eadie, then learnt about safe roads and got ready for lunch.

In the afternoon we had a flexible Friday where we finished bits and bobs that needed doing.

On Wednesday we did P.E. in the gym hall we practised lots of skills. In the warm up we played dodgeball then we did some netball and basketball games. After break we continued our extreme earth topic. We were looking at hurricanes. We looked at the beaufort scale and then we had to fill in the blanks of it in our jotters.

After lunch we did some maths. The mathletes did the four operations with decimals, the maths penguins did bus stop division, dragon addition did times tables and played games with their times tables.

Then Mrs Hutchison came in and we did drama. We finished performing our scripts of the seal wife when the seal wife found her skin. One person was the husband and one person was the seal wife. It was super fun.

After lunch we played a game called what are you doing? We would sit in a circle and one at a time we would go up and act something out. The first person would go up and start miming something out, then the next person would then go up and say what are you doing? The person miming would say something different to what they were doing then the next person would mime doing that thing and so on and until everyone had had a go.

On Friday we did maths and flexible Friday tasks. We had to google what the Richter scale was, the work of a seismologist and the 1906 San francisco earthquake. We also made signs for each of the spanish months and weekdays.  At Assembly, we received our committee badges.  Mrs Allan was really touched by how excited we were for each other.

w/c 26th September 2022 (Ava and Jenny)

On Wednesday we did netball in P.E and a bit of basketball.

We also went to the woodland for free time and did a parabolic curve which is where you do a L and then numbers down it [1-10] and join them with straight lines and it makes a curve with straight lines.

we were doing experiments for our extreme earth topic

we were using unit cubes to create strong structures  on a target board, then we hit the bottom with a ruler and see if they fall.

we also used lego too make tall structures and put them on a wobble board too see if and where they fall.

there was a marshmallow and toothpick station and you build a structure and put them on two types off jelly and see wobble them and see if they fall apart.

On Thursday in drama we had to make a script for a selkie story which is basically where there are magic seals that can take off there skins and turn into a girl but one day a man stole a girls skin to make her love him and we added that the selkie finds the skin and confronts him.

w/c 12th September – Haniya and Isla G

Monday:

In maths we finished the TJ3A pages that we were working on on friday last week. We were doing pages 24-27 and if we finished and we hadn’t stopped then we did page 29 as a challenge, if we then completed that we did a sheet.

In P.E the warmup people (Edward and Harris) chose the game which was duck hero meerkat. If you were selected by the tiggers you had to choose duck which you choose a partner ,hero was yourself and meerkat was everyone. Once you had chosen duck hero or meerkat then you would run to the other side, if you were tug then you became a tigger.

After the warmup we split into 5 teams and each team had a rugby ball. What you would do is run to the other side of the MUGA in a straight line passing the ball between your group. If one person went in front of everyone in their team you would have to stop and they would have to run back. We were split into different teams and then started to do matches but not a proper one. To tackle the ball you would have to touch their shoulders with both your hands but you couldn’t tackle when they were standing still then you would get the ball.

Tuesday:

In the morning we did  literacy and we read a poem made by the poet laureate and it was called Floral Tribute and it was about Queen Elizabeth. And it was an acrostic poem about the word down the side was Elizabeth.

In literacy we finished our class novel called Cloud Busting. Some of us got a bit emotional near the end, some of us were not expecting a sad ending. We then did a character study and a book review. Then in the afternoon we went out Cloud Busting ourselves and we took some photos of cool shaped clouds. There was a few donut shaped clouds too!

Then we did a class an electronic  kitbag, we only did the animals card and the feelings card, the other things included in a kitbag are calming oil and 2 puppets were a wolf  and a robin then we did a bounce back lesson about Louise Sauvage, an Australian athlete. We did our own cloudbusting outside too.

Wednesday:

In the morning we had P.E in the gym hall. We did a warm up game of toilet tig, the game was chosen by the warm up people. Then we did a shooting drill for netball. We made a line in two groups. The first  person stood in the semi circle whilst the 2nd person had the netball. The person with the ball would pass it to the person in the circle then once they catch the ball they would throw it into the hoop, we repeated this until everyone had 2 turns.

In woodland we were measuring trees, we had some of the trees had numbers up to 6,  we had a sheet of paper which had the numbers on it there was 2 methods of measuring method 1 was you estimate how high the tree is and then you stick your head under your legs and see if you see the top of the tree if you don’t then you keep going forward in that same position and when you see the top you stand up and your partner uses a metre stick to measure your feet to the tree  method 2 is one person walks 30 steps from the tree and your partner walks 27 steps and the person who walk’s 27 steps goes one their stomach and your partner measures you from the tree.

We used oil pastels or paint to create artwork inspired by volcanoes.  We looked at real eruptions and artists’ work.

w/c 5th September – Charlotte and Cameron

On Monday we started with spelling. We had to finish off our corrections then do an active area task. We had to pick one task from each column, there were three columns.

In P.E we played poison ball. There are 2 tiggers and they throw or roll the ball. If you threw it it had to be below the waist. When you got hit you had to go to the sides and get a ball because you became a tigger. We learnt how to pass in rugby. We played a game where you had to get a partner and you had to run and pass the ball at the same time.

In writing we had to write a nature poem. It could be about a season, field, flowers etc.

We got to write as much as we wanted.

In Maths, we worked with the other class on angles.  We split into groups, we took photos of things that looked like certain angles and added them to Google slides.  Then we played an angles game on the Chromebooks.  We wrote on the tables! there were angles made with tape and we used protractors.  There was a worksheet too.

On Tuesday we finished off our nature poems. Once we finished them we could put them on a leaf (out of paper). You needed to make one. You also had to write a stanza of your poem. Some people wrote their whole poem!

On Wednesday in P.E we were playing netball. For warm up we played Shark attack. You start with 2 tiggers and there are hoops for islands. You could only have 4 people to a hoop. If you got caught you became a tiger and it got more & more tiggers. When we started netball we had to learn all the key rules and how far you can go. In netball, it’s 7 to a team with a centre, wing attack, wing defence, goal scorer, goalkeeper, goal attack and  goal defence. We played against the same team twice. The second time we played them you could play a different position.

In Extreme Earth, we learned about volcanoes and then wrote notes.  We made up questions and wrote them in fortune tellers.  We have been making them all week!

On Thursday we did Spanish and we revised our greetings. We learnt how to count to 20. We got to listen to a silly song which at points was really fast.

In music went back to the art/music room for the first time. We listed the definition of some musical words.

In drama we all got a number and when Mrs Hutchison called our number she would say a scenario and we had to do it. We got to do an extract from Peter Pan. The first scene we had peter meeting the kids and going to Neverland. The second one was peter pan fought hook and peter pushed him off the plank. Who was ate by a shark.

our first week (Emily and Zakir) w/c 22nd August

On the first day of school we made paper shoes and they had to slide on and off and had to last at least 3 steps. They were really fragile and we had to be careful that they wouldn’t fall off. We also played a couple of rounds of would you rather.

We did writing and we wrote what we would do if we ruled the school. Some ideas where pet room ,soft play, trampoline , trampoline park and a gaming room.

We made self portraits in comic style. We coloured in with light coloured pencils and did big dots with felt tip pens the same colour as the pencil. Roy Lichenstein invented this type of art.

for the class charter we decided to pick Pokemon. We all made little Pokemon cards displaying the rights that we thought were most important.  We used behaviours instead of attacks.

We played a number game called tick dot cross. How it works is someone writes a 5 digit number and people will guess the number and under each one you do a tick dot or cross. You do a tick if the number goes there and is in the number a dot if its in the number but its not in the right place and a cross if its not in the number.

We played a game.It has m hth tth th h t u and the teacher rolls a dice whatever number the teacher rolls we decide to ignore it or not and  place it anywhere, we played two rounds of the game in the first round and we had to make the biggest number we could , in the second round we had to make the smallest number we could.

We also revised some division and multiplication too.

Later, we answered questions on a piece of paper and decorated it, then we cut it out and folded it into a cube for Mrs Nasar.

In PE we played bench ball. We also played elephant football and there were a lot of balls included. After bench ball we played rock, paper, scissors in hoops.

With Mrs Hutchison in drama we were doing mime where we would have an emotion and one person would show a tiny then the next person a bit more then the next person a bit more and the last person has a full blown melt down or starts jumping. We had groups of four and five and we acted out a nursery rhythm of humpty dumpty or this little piggy or the lady who swallowed a fly. In Music we got into four groups and we each did something different to make a tune.  Group 1 was syaing “ga” and slapping our thighs, group 2 were saying “cha cha” and shimmying their shoulders, group 3 said “beep beep” and clapping their hands to the rhythm and group 4 were shimmying their shoulders and saying “ha ha” and then clapping in the air.

In a STEM challenge we each had a piece of paper a string a pair of scissors and a paper clip and a 2 pipe cleaners and we had to make a wearable name label.

For writing today (Friday) we had to do a recount of what we have done this week.
