w/c 10th October by Rosie and Helena

On Monday we went over to Eastwood high school again to do PE with the sports leaders. We were split into six different groups, and each group has a particular sport we will be practising over the next few weeks. The different sports include hockey, tennis, netball, football, invasion games and rugby. In each group we built on the skills we learnt last week.

In writing we were finishing off our extreme earth fact files. Adding colour, information and lots of pictures and diagrams. There was a great variety of topics and layouts including volcanoes, earthquakes and hurricanes in booklets, trifolds and posters. They all looked great by the end of it!

In the woodland both classes were joined together and we were split into three groups to do different activities. Such as… knot tying, stick whittling (with potato peelers), drawing grids and marking coordinates with chalk and metre sticks and  then simply playing in the woodland.

On Tuesday we were reading more of our group novels and answering tricky questions. Then we moved onto spelling where we were working on common mistakes and definitions.

In maths we were working on percentages, fractions and decimals. We learnt that 20/100 = 20% or 0.2! Here is an example: you buy shoes for £1 but they’re 50/100 of the price that would be the same as 50%. So if the denominator is one hundred then the numerator will be your percentage.

On Wednesday we had our individual and sibling photos, so we all came in shiny and new. Then we learnt all about wildfires, we learnt about the conditions they happen in and the things they affect. Did you know 84% of them are caused by humans!

In literacy we were working on punctuation. We learned all the rules about speech marks and completed a worksheet where you had to add in capital letters, speech marks and other punctuation in their correct places.

On Thursday In maths we were working on percentages again. We chose to work with word problems or normal questions.

In literacy we were working on answering questions from a poem called “bullied” and explored why the poet used different phrases or words and if they had a good effect on the poem. We had a good chat at the end about what the moral was.

In the afternoon we had Mr Eadie. First we did music and we had loads of fun learning musical terms, scales and how to play “seven nation army” on the glockenspiels. Then we did art and were working on pictures inspired by Gaudi, an architect from Barcelona. We drew a simple outline then filled it with cut out bits of paper making sure to leave gaps.

On Friday we had our bikeability, We were on the roads for the morning learning how to be safe on them. We learnt a safe start, safe stop, U turn and a left signal. When we got back we did a bit of net ball in PE with Mr Eadie, then learnt about safe roads and got ready for lunch.

In the afternoon we had a flexible Friday where we finished bits and bobs that needed doing.

w/c 3rd october (Becki and Alfie)

On monday we went over to Eastwood to do P.E. There were six different things you could do, football, rugby, short tennis, invasion games, hokey, and netball. It was really fun!

After break we did writing, in writing we made extreme earth fact files. There were lots of different things people did to display the information including booklets, leaflets, factfiles and posters.

On Tuesday in literacy we continued reading and did work on our books.

We also did some listening games with partners, one partner would draw something and then they would have to try and give instructions for the other person to get the same picture as them. It was fun and challenging.

On Wednesday we did P.E. in the gym hall we practised lots of skills. In the warm up we played dodgeball then we did some netball and basketball games. After break we continued our extreme earth topic. We were looking at hurricanes. We looked at the beaufort scale and then we had to fill in the blanks of it in our jotters.

After lunch we did some maths. The mathletes did the four operations with decimals, the maths penguins did bus stop division, dragon addition did times tables and played games with their times tables.

On Thursday in the morning we did literacy, we were doing some nelson spelling and work on our reading books.

After break we were practising Spanish days of the week. We played memory games starting from a specific day and putting them in order, we were very competitive. We did the cha cha slide again too.

Then Mrs Hutchison came in and we did drama. We finished performing our scripts of the seal wife when the seal wife found her skin. One person was the husband and one person was the seal wife. It was super fun.

After lunch we played a game called what are you doing? We would sit in a circle and one at a time we would go up and act something out. The first person would go up and start miming something out, then the next person would then go up and say what are you doing? The person miming would say something different to what they were doing then the next person would mime doing that thing and so on and until everyone had had a go.

On Friday we did maths and flexible Friday tasks. We had to google what the Richter scale was, the work of a seismologist and the 1906 San francisco earthquake. We also made signs for each of the spanish months and weekdays.  At Assembly, we received our committee badges.  Mrs Allan was really touched by how excited we were for each other.
