Hi P7A readers, I wanted to update you on what we have been doing in our Learning Journeys since our last entry.
I was incredibly impressed with all of the STAT Wars presentations, with everyone successfully becoming experts on their issue and groups confidently imparting their knowledge with the class!
Afterwards, P7a started exploring how communicating and collaborating are life skills and the pupils were encouraged to reflect on how they use them everyday. The class recognised that they had utilised these two META Skills during the STAT WARS project work when we respectfully listened to each other, compromised and took turns. We have also learned about the importance of communicating our emotions which we did through expressing our thanks to Miss Tenby for her wonderful teaching! We also applied our communication skills by writing an article about ourselves being local heroes in the future and we included a section about how we gave back to the community.
Our current Learning Journey is about the evolution of batteries. Mr McCormick from the science department at Eastwood High School came across and showed some of us how to create a fruit/vegetable battery! We then recorded the meter readings of lemons, limes, oranges, apples and potatoes and discussed why the results may differ. After exploring the components in batteries and how devices are powered we created a timeline showing how they have developed over the years! We also learned about how modern items have inbuilt features to make them more energy efficient and then we investigated how people can be wasteful with batteries. After exploring the impact batteries can have on the environment we created a diagram of the life cycle of batteries and discovered they can be recycled for many purposes including reusing the materials for grass fertiliser! Inspired from all of our research, Mr Atkinson challenged us to redesign devices that use batteries and to creatively replace them with alternative power sources. We also had a heated debate with groups arguing for and against if we can live in a world without batteries. Finally, we have created information posters about how to dispose of batteries correctly.

Farm to Fork
This week, we explored the food production process that begins at the farm and ends up on our plates!
We built our knowledge around the different stages, such as:
In pairs, we became Tech Detectives to identify technological elements from a variety of packaging.
We then created infographics to display our knowledge.
Thank you for reading this week’s blog!

Eid Celebrations
This week, we explored the celebration of Eid and the traditions involved.
Mosques Around the World
In pairs, we researched a range of different mosques around the world. We presented our findings on Google Slides or created a poster.

Islamic art – Tessellation
With Mrs Lamont, we followed a step-by-step video to create Islamic designs and patterns.
Finally, we enjoyed cooking pakora with Mrs Nasar as part of the Eid celebrations!

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe
We have been enjoying reading out class novel The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. This week, we have been writing diary entries based on a character from the book. The characters included Susan, Peter, Edmund, Lucy and Mr Tumnus.
We created a wardrobe that included our diary entries inside.

We also created leaflets about visiting the Professor’s house. We discussed what there is to see, what time it would open and what it would look like.
We are looking forward to reading more!

Hi readers,
Welcome to this week’s blog!
Farmers Footprint
This week , we took a closer look at a typical day for a farmer in Dang District. It highlighted the extremely tough life that farmers have, most of whom are women.
We discussed how failed crops and climate change can have an impact on farmers lives. We identified the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)Â that would link to farmers in Dang District.
At the end of the lesson, we tested each others knowledge with a quiz!

Thank you for reading this week’s blog post! Stay tuned for our next blog.

Hi readers,
Welcome to this week’s blog!
Wind Power ChallengeÂ
We were given the challenge to design, make and test a wind turbine that will pick a cup of pennies off the floor. We were given a range of different items to use for our design.Â
This challenged our creativity and critical thinking skills.

We used our problem-solving, team working and presentation skills to complete this challenge.Â
Throughout this lesson, we also discovered how STEM can help solve global issues and achieve the UN Global Goals.
Thank you for reading this week’s blog! Stay tuned for the next blog post.

Hi readers,

IDL – Civil Rights Movement
On Tuesday, we started looking at the Civil Rights Movement. We watched “I Have a Dream” speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. which took place on 28th August 1963.
In groups, we looked at 4 extracts from Martin Luther King’s speech and highlighted powerful words and phrases that he used.

We then used these powerful words and phrases for our art! We sketched TVs and Radios from the 1963 and used Stippling to create shadows.

Meta Moments
On Thursday we participated in a whole school event – Meta Moments. We had different visitors come in and speak about their professions and how they use Meta Skills in their jobs.
We had an Influencer, Governor, Politician and a rugby player from the Glasgow Warriors rugby team come in and speak to our year group.
We showed our curiosity skills by asking lots of questions.
Science
This week, we used Tinkercad to create battery powered educational toys.
We also researched about how batteries have changed over the years. With this information, we created a timeline showing the changes throughout the years.

World Book Day
This week we became storytellers and created our own children’s books! We loved using our creativity and imaginative skills to create books for the lower school.
We really enjoyed reading our books to Primary 2a and Primary 3c 🙂
IDL – Indian Farmers Protests
This week, we looked into the Indian Farmer Protests deeper. We researched the reasons for this movement, key figures and key events that have taken place.
We used our research to create information leaflets.
Debating – Lord Provost Debate
This week we watched the Lord Provost debate on teams and we are so proud of our Crookfur debaters!
They all spoke very clear and listened well to the other team’s points.

LiteracyÂ
We have started creating children’s books for World Book Day. We planned our stories using a storyboard and looked at children’s books for inspiration.

IDL – DemocracyÂ
This week, we explored different movements. We research different movements and presented our information onto a mind map.
We researched:
Science – The Yeast Experiment
