Hi readers,

Welcome to this week’s blog!

Farmers Footprint

This week , we took a closer look at a typical day for a farmer in Dang District.  It highlighted the extremely tough life that farmers have, most of whom are women.

We discussed how failed crops and climate change can have an impact on farmers lives. We identified the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that would link to farmers in Dang District.

At the end of the lesson, we tested each others knowledge with a quiz!

Hi readers,

Welcome to this week’s blog!

Wind Power Challenge

We were given the challenge to design, make and test a wind turbine that will pick a cup of pennies off the floor. We were given a range of different items to use for our design.

This challenged our creativity and critical thinking skills.

We used our problem-solving, team working and presentation skills to complete this challenge.

Throughout this lesson, we also discovered how STEM can help solve global issues and achieve the UN Global Goals.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog! Stay tuned for the next blog post.

Hi readers,

Welcome to this week’s blog!

IDL – Civil Rights Movement

On Tuesday, we started looking at the Civil Rights Movement.  We watched “I Have a Dream” speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. which took place on 28th August 1963.

In groups, we looked at 4 extracts from Martin Luther King’s speech and highlighted powerful words and phrases that he used.

We then used these powerful words and phrases for our art! We sketched TVs and Radios from the 1963 and used Stippling to create shadows.

Meta Moments

On Thursday we participated in a whole school event – Meta Moments. We had different visitors come in and speak about their professions and how they use Meta Skills in their jobs.

We had an Influencer, Governor, Politician and a rugby player from the Glasgow Warriors rugby team come in and speak to our year group.

We showed our curiosity skills by asking lots of questions.

Science

This week, we used Tinkercad to create battery powered educational toys.

We also researched about how batteries have changed over the years. With this information, we created a timeline showing the changes throughout the years.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog!

World Book Day

This week we became storytellers and created our own children’s books! We loved using our creativity and imaginative skills to create books for the lower school.

We really enjoyed reading our books to Primary 2a and Primary 3c 🙂

IDL – Indian Farmers Protests

This week, we looked into the Indian Farmer Protests deeper. We researched the reasons for this movement, key figures and key events that have taken place.

We used our research to create information leaflets.

Debating – Lord Provost Debate

This week we watched the Lord Provost debate on teams and we are so proud of our Crookfur debaters!

They all spoke very clear and listened well to the other team’s points.
