Sports Week Highlights

We had an action packed week full of exciting sporting activities.

We started the week with a karate session, where we learned how to prevent an attack.

We then had a gymnastics input and yoga session during the middle of the week. We enjoyed creating our own yoga poses with a partner but found it difficult to balance.

We loved having a talk from Rachel Tytler who shared her Judo story with us which was very inspirational. She has inspired us to have a growth mindset and not give up.

On Friday we loved taking part in sports afternoon over at Eastwood where we competed in races and different sport activities. What a fabulous week!!

8th May

PE

This week in writing we were looking at instructional writing. We created instructions for a game that could be played in the playground or during PE. Some of us had the opportunity to explain and play our chosen game with the class during PE. It was really fun to see our games come to life and look forward to playing the rest of the games next week.

KAPLA

We loved playing with the new KAPLA. We worked in groups to create a building or structure. My group made a football stadium and we discovered spirals and triangles are really sturdy shapes.

Natural Disasters

We are so happy with our new wall display. We used paint, tissue and pipe cleaners to make a big volcano.

This week we have learned about the formation of an earthquake and volcano.

Earth Day, Eid Celebration and lots more

Natural Disasters

In Social Studies we have started to look at Natural Disasters. This week we were looking at the different layers of the earth. We used playdough to show the inner core, outer core, mantle and crust. Next week we are going to look at Earthquakes.

Earth Day

This week we celebrated earth day by making tote bags out of old t-shirts. It was tricky to cut the fabric and tie all of the nots, but the bags look so nice and it even holds my air up water bottle.

Eid Celebration

Today we had an Eid celebration. It was so much fun. The day started with the class baking cookies and making fruit chaat. The fruit chaat tasted sweet and spicy which we weren’t expecting. The cookies looked amazing and made the whole school smell so nice!! In the afternoon we went to the hall and we all got lovely henna designs.

K’Nex

K’Nex Challenge

This week we competed in the first round of the K’Nex challenge. The class challenge involved us working in pairs to build a bridge that is 30cm long and 19cm tall. It was really fun to design and build. The winners from our class challenge will compete against the other P6 classes next week.

Maths

Algebros- We started a new maths topic this week and looked at algebra. It is not as challenging as i thought it would be and is actually quite fun.

Pi-oneers- We have been looking at numbers and have been adding with carrying and subtracting with exchanging.

Mathsketeers- We have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes, my favourite shape is a rhombus.

PE

On Thursday we started Gymnastics. We did pike rolls and used the spring board. We are looking forward to using the horse next week to jump over.

Fair Aware Award

This week we have some exciting news. P5/6, P6A and P6B have worked hard and been awarded with a Fairtrade award. We have researched Fairtrade products, looked at how we can help support Fairtrade farmers and made a fantastic wall display. At the beginning of the week we played a game where we were cocoa farmers, it was really hard but lots of fun.

In maths this week we have been focusing on Number Talks, this is when we think of the strategies that we use to get to an answer. We took it in turns to share the strategies that we thought of.

We hope you all have a great weekend,

P6B.

Scottish Show and Book Week

Last Thursday P6 performed their Scottish show. During our show we sang Scottish songs, shared our knowledge about Scottish inventors and traditions. We did a great job and our parents loved it. We also performed it for the school the next day.

This week was book week and we did lots of activities in class to celebrate. We researched Michael Morpurgo and made presentations with the information we found. I made a video but some of my friends make power points and poster.  We play book charades and also designed our own book characters. We had lots of fun.

Nicole was so kind and brought in a book all the way from Hong Kong that her auntie sent. We loved learning about the book.

Ruby was also kind and brought in her own book that she has been writing since P4!!! She is hoping to win a blue peter badge with it.

What P6B have been doing this week….

P.E- In P.E. we played basketball and worked on our footwork skills. We learned how to pivet. At the end of P.E. we all enjoyed competing in some matches!

Maths- In maths we learned how to multiply decimals. I found it hard but showed determination to complete the calculations.

Spelling- This week for active spelling I decided to use the tweezers to find the letters to make my spelling words.

In writing we have been focusing on persuasion. Next week we are going to be writing a letter to try and persuade our teacher to get new playground equipment. This week we designed our ideal playgrounds on Tinkercad. It was soooo fun!!!

Our Busy Week…

We have had a fabulous week in P6B!

P.E-

P6B braved the cold frosty weather this morning and went outside to play hockey.

Cormac- “When you hit the ball hard it makes a really nice sound”.

Ruby- “I found it easier to hit the ball because the ground was hard”.

IDL

This week we started our topic which is Fairtrade. We learned the difference between a wants and a need.

Alex- ” A want is something you would like but not essential to survive. A need is something that is essential to live.”

Writing

In writing our focus has been persuasion. This week we were persuading people to come to Scotland.

Alex- “I wrote about an award that Scotland won”

Matthew- “I write about Kelvingrove Art Gallery”

Ruby- “I wrote about my favourite food which is haggis, neeps and tatties”

Arnav- ‘I am new in P6b and I have met new friends who are really nice and kind’.
