Committee Week

This week, we had our committee meetings. In Sports council, we  did a survey about the name of the new basketball area. In Reading Buddies, we got our badges and we found out the name of our P2 buddy. In the Pupil Council we made posters about our work. In the Eco Committee we did a worm survey, the Digital Leaders made posters for Safer Internet Day and Dos and Don’t to keep safe online.  The Neurodiversity ambassadors had kitbag training and the Rights Respecting School committee found the correct places around the school for the new RRS logo.

Monday 

On Monday morning we started with our Literacy Standardised Tests about dance. After lunch we did some spelling and then  we went to the Learning Lab with Mr Atkinson. We worked on our Upstream Battle project and looked at places that produce carbon dioxide as part of ocean acidification.

 

Tuesday

In Science, we planned an experiment using a worksheet.  The experiment used shells in jars with water and salt, one with vinegar and one water, and one with water salt and vinegar to show what happens to shells with ocean acidification. The shell in the jar with most vinegar started to float and dissolve and disintegrate. In water, salt and vinegar the shell started to become clear.  On Tuesday afternoon the reading buddies had their meeting!

Wednesday

In the morning we did some maths before we went to PE.  In PE we had some gymnastic equipment to do balances and jumps. We chose if we wanted the beam higher or lower. We really enjoyed it.

After break we wrote letters as if we were attending the queen’s coronation, climbing Everest, the Empire Windrush or as an evacuee. We watched some short videos to help with our ideas as well as last week’s Expert tasks.

In the afternoon we finished our Pop Art with Mrs Fry.  we had four of the same popular thing in different colours. We learned about Lunar new year.  In  our class, we are all goats!

Thursday

In the morning we did self and peer assessment of our writing. then we did some literacy with our reading books and some grammar. After break we did some maths and mental maths.  in there afternoon we learned about Jewish synagogues and found out that we passed one very often but didn’t know what it was!

After that, we listened to  4 of The Beatles’ most popular songs as part of Through the Decades for the 1960s.  We voted on our favourite song.  Most of us liked “Here comes the sun”.

Friday 17th January by Ruaridh and Maxwell

Monday

In the morning we did literacy  and we did some reading and jotter tasks. After break we did some bigger multiplication questions in mental maths

After lunch we finished off the ten gurus of Sikhism. With Mr Atkinson we worked on maps of streams and rivers and the other was different types of litter as part of the Upstream Battle project.  We had to find information about the rivers and the pollution in them.

Tuesday

In the morning we did maths some groups started thinking about a poster they were making on the chromebooks and others did a work sheet.

After break we finished our Upstream Battle work with Mr Atkinson.

After lunch we got a work sheet and we had to sort out different sheets into different times and discuss what order they came in.  We were surprised that Blair Drummond Safari Park opened in 1970! Then we thought about things we wanted to do in our new topic.  It’s called Through the Decades and we will be looking at from the 1940s mainly until the 2000s. We want to learn about cars and transport, music, fashion, military planes,

Wednesday

In the morning we done maths and then we went to P.E.  We did some rolls in gymnastics.

After break we did some writing was about imaginative emotions. We made jellyfish diagrams about emotions in different texts  and had to figure out what the emotion was.  Then we used them to make our own writing.  We ticked off parts of our diagram so we wouldn’t use them again.

After lunch we learned about the 1940s. We did some research to explore what was different from now.

Did you know…

  • people didn’t have showers at home
  • children were evacuated during the war and didn’t stay with their families
  • each family got a ration of food so they only had a certain amount
  • these were ration coupons
  • boys and girls learned different things in school

Thursday

In literacy, we helped the school by making sure that the different colours were matched up correctly.  We all worked very hard to complete different colours and ranked them. in the afternoon we made our covers for our new topic.  We will use treasury tags to keep our work together as we do different kinds.

Monday

In the morning we did colouring in 2025 sheets. Then we did Literacy. In literacy we did our spelling booklets and work on our reading books . After break we did maths and then after lunch we had Mr Atkinson.  We went to the steam room and did partner work for our models for Upstream Battle.

 

Tuesday

In the morning we did we did maths .After break we had Mr Atkinson and we did maps for the Upstream Battle competition. Then we looked on the ipads to look for ideas to make stuff for the competition. in the afternoon we made booklets that made us think about what we wanted to stop this year, what we did well last year and new Years resolution.

 

Wednesday

We did maths and PE in the morning.  We had a very exciting gymnastics lesson where the man who was fixing the Opus system was singing during our lesson.  We gave him a round of applause because he was a brilliant singer.  In writing we did “What we didn’t do in the holidays” where we took a real event and changed it to make an imaginative stories

In our stories:

  • Brussel sprouts came live
  • people teleported into films and games and lands made of sweets
  • dreams came true or took over
  • Christmas trees started talking!

We made our Reach for the Stars display using zentangle arms that are good for mindfulness.

Thursday

In the morning we did Literacy.  We worked on Nelson Comprehension. We worked so hard that we got a little extra break time!

In the afternoon we did some Numeracy and some talking and listening activities were we showed that we are very good at listening.

 

 

Friday 20th December by Ariyan and Broden

Monday

In the morning we did a spelling Bee then we went on the iPads and used an app Called Chatterpix.

We took a picture of Richard Branson and we made him talk about his life and Make Five Pounds Grow.  After break we did maths and we did a test to see what we could remember .After lunch we made a song by tapping cups in different ways.

 

After that we went down to the steam room with Mr Atkinson to draw a stream to a river to the sea and we drew different types of litter in the sea.

Tuesday

In the morning we did literacy .After break we went down to Capelrig Burn and we looked for different types of litter. Then we came back to the school and we went into all the play grounds to find even more litter.

After lunch we did some really fun snowman art with chalk and oil pastels.

Wednesday

In the morning we did literacy about snowmen to see what words we could make with snowman. After break we did maths and we did a code breaker to try set Rudolph free. During lunch we put up our stalls for grow £5 .After lunch we made some 2025 calendar. We put some different patterns on it to make it look nice.

Thursday

In the morning we talked about what charity we wanted to give the money we made from Make £5 grow and what stuff we wanted to buy with the rest of the money. We also decided what film to watch on Friday. After break we did a Christmas Quiz and then played a game called Blooket. After lunch we had our Christmas party and we played some games.  We had a lot of fun!

 

Friday

For the last day of term we watched “The Grinch” or we played some games or did some drawing.  We had a full school singalong assembly.

 

 

Friday 13th December by Ava and Sophia H

Monday

In the morning we did literacy and reading. After break we did song practice in the gym hall with all the other p5s for our show on Thursday. After lunch we counted all the money that we got from the Christmas fayre. Then we went to the Steam Room with Mr Atkinson. In Steam we learnt about the 28,000 rubber ducks that accidentally spilled out of a container in a delivery ship on its way to deliver them.

Tuesday

In the morning we did maths. After break we did song practice with Mr Atkinson, Miss Bennett and the other p5s. After lunch we did some art, in art we drew the 12 days of Christmas so we could put them under the audience seats for our performance. Also in the afternoon we did google slides about Make £5 grow.

Wednesday

In the morning we did maths, then after maths we did boccia and team 1, team 3 and team 4 all tied with 6 points each.

After break we did emotion poems. After lunch we did our dress rehearsal for our Christmas show, all the p3s and 4s loved our performance. We asked them to join in the songs if they wanted to and some of them did!

Thursday

In the morning we did literacy and reading, some people did book review tasks, other people did Nessy and some other groups did some questions for the chapters in our books.  We had an early lunch for our show and then went on the bus to the Baptist Church for our show. We were amazing, tremendous, fabulous, outstanding and wonderful. At our show the adults had to stand up and down for the 12 Days of Christmas. We were proud of them and they were proud of us! After the show, we played outside and on the orangutan.

 

Friday

We started the day with a visit to the present room.  It was hard to pick! We did maths afterwards and split into groups to make clocks and questions about the 12 Days of Christmas and then we swapped. After break we wrote this blog.

Friday 6th December by Jaxon and Sophia D

Monday

 

In the morning we did writing. We wrote a poem about autumn , winter and then our own choice of celebration . After break we did maths and then we put decorations on the tree. Then after lunch we did singing practice and then we went to the STEAM room we made our up stream battle front cover.

 

Tuesday

On Tuesday morning we did maths.  After break  Mr Atkinson came in and we did STEAM we finished our up stream battle front cover . After lunch we did singing practice. We sound wonderful!

 

Wednesday

On Wednesday morning we did maths and then we did some comprehension on poetry.  In the afternoon, we practiced our songs.

 

Thursday

On Thursday morning we did literacy. We answered some questions in our jotter. After break we did maths and Mrs Nasar came in .  We did some problem-solving using different strategies.

After lunch we did a whole run through of our show and added some instruments like hand bells , maracas, triangles and our lovely recorders as well.

Monday

In the morning we did literacy then we did Maths after break. After lunch one of the visitors called Mr Lawson came and he did French with us. Next we went to the STEAM room. We drew  pictures of litter and wrote a fact in the middle that we had researched. Did you know that Pepsi is one of the biggest global polluters?

 

Tuesday

In the morning we did maths. After break we did STEAM with Mr Atkinson about our  Upstream battle. We learned about how long it takes for different materials to break down in landfill and rivers.  On Tuesday after lunch we did R.M.E. We learned about the Ten Gurus of Sikhism.

Wednesday

On Wednesday we did maths in the morning. After lunch we did make £5 Grow. Some people finished their off their products so we started to make posters and information to advertise.

 

Thursday

On Thursday we did literacy in the morning, working on our Big Cat books and novels. After break we did maths. During wet/icy lunch we worked on our Five Pounds products. In the afternoon we practiced songs for the show for the first time. Feliz Navidad is our favourite so far….

 

Friday

Today in the morning we did maths and then after break before assembly we did music practice for our school show.

After lunch we did P.E.

Monday

In the morning we did we did literacy. We did comprehension and spelling .

After lunch we did some French and turned it into a game. You rolled a dice and then you added body parts to make “un monstre bizarre”. It was fun! Then we went to the STEAM room with Mr Atkinson and we did a bridge into steps on how to achieve goals.

 

Tuesday

In the morning we did some mental maths we learned to add by 99 by adding 100 and taking away 1.

Then we had Mr Atkinson after break we did a live lesson called “Upstream Battle” about plastic in waterways. They talked about how lots of litter ends up in Arrochar in Scotland.  We learned about a competition to make a poster and you could win a trip to Arrochar and to the Sealife Centre in Balloch. We also finished our bridges to achieve goals.

After lunch we did our shopping list for make £5 grow and Mrs Allan did a big and strange Amazon order.

 

Wednesday

In the morning we did a little bit of maths then we did P.E.. In P.E. we did some Scottish dancing. The dance we learned was the military 2 step  to traditional music and then to “Cotton Eye Joe”. It was easier than the Gay Gordons!

After break we did literacy . Then after lunch we did make your £5 and we made our products.

Thursday

In the morning we did some literacy we did then after break we did math.  For Book Week , everyone brought a book and then we mixed them up and then sorted them into categories using the front cover to see what they had in common. Some of the mystery books were purple.  some of the books about girls were pink and purple with flowers on them and the books about boys were different colours. We did not all approve!

Before lunch we did a questionnaire about our school for our visitors next week. After lunch we squeezed more time to make our products for Make five pounds Grow and then did a little bit of RME.

Friday

We started the day with maths and learned about time.  After break we wrote this blog! We’re going to assembly soon.

Friday 15th November by An and Humza

Monday

In the morning we copied down our spelling words for homework. After that we did literacy and maths.  After lunch we went to the steam room with Mr Atkinson where we were learning about energy.

Tuesday

On Tuesday we did maths and some people learned function machines with square numbers.  After lunch we got our flu vaccinations then the reading buddies had their first meeting . the others got our Make £5 Grow display ready.

Wednesday

On Wednesday we did our Maths and then we did PE.  We did modern dance to “Bye Bye Bye”. We were brilliant and it was so much fun!

Then we did some writing: we made our own instructions about something we liked. Mrs Allan had Eco committee after lunch so we had Miss Biggart for RME and we learned about Sikhism, then we worked on the shopping ls its for Make £5 Grow.

 

Thursday

In the morning we did some literacy about our Big Cat books and also some spelling. After break we had maths and we learned some new maths games. We finished off our Guru Naka sequencing and tried to finish our shopping lists and logos for our companies.

 

Friday 

We were at the Science centre today! We had our snack first and then explored the Second Floor which was mostly about renewables and energy.  We went to Electric Detectives.  We talked about what electricity is and what materials are conductors or insulators.  Then we made  circuits and it was exciting. We had lunch and went to Bodyworks.  lots of us went on a big hamster wheel, some of us tried the running track and some pedalled bikes. Lots of us enjoyed the acupuncture board too! On the way home, we had a sing-song of “The Wheels on the Bus”.  When we came back we wrote this blog and checked our photographs.

Monday

On Monday we did literacy and used the Comp Box for the first time this year. After lunch we had Mr Atkinson. We finished our posters about Renewable Energy and we were changing the school to Renewable Energy and we had a live lesson about wave energy.

 

Tuesday

On Tuesday we did some literacy in the morning at lunch we had we did some maths doing 4 digit calculation. With Mr Atkinson, we drew scientists and showed what metaskills they would need.  Our focus was curiosity and creativity and we watched a video about them. At the end of the day we finished our reading. Mrs Dowse (Sophia’s mum) came in and did a lesson about her job.  She works for a company called Galileo which plans wind turbines.  She showed us a cool video of a special truck moving a wind turbine blade. It was the first one to be moved like this in Scotland.

 

Wednesday

On Wednesday we had maths in the morning doing subtraction 4 digit numbers. After that we had PE. In PE we did Scottish dancing with a partner called the Gay Gordons. It was very fun. After break we did writing and we were doing instructions about making diyas from last week. Then after lunch we did some reading.

 

 

 Thursday

In maths we did function machines and algebra. We learned to work out letters instead of numbers.  After break we did literacy and we did handwriting and reading and our Comp Box.  After lunch we watched a presentation about Sikhism and watched a video about Sikhism. We looked at what was inside a Gurdwara and learned about what Sikh people might wear as part of their faith.
