Class Blog – 30th September

“It was Maths Week. We learnt about how people use maths in their jobs. We also made optical illusions, making straight lines look curved. We also took part in a maths week quiz.” Calvin

“We applied for jobs building ships in Mr Flood’s ship yard. We had to write down why you would be good for the job and what skills you are good at. We interviewed each other about the other person’s application.” Jad

“We did spelling, we had to write our words and then write either a story or some silly sentences using our spelling words. Then we had to do another task, for example bubble writing or rainbow writing.” Hadia

“In RME we learnt more about Judaism. We learned about the synagogue. We also looked at some objects that are important to Jewish people, like a prayer shawl and kippah.” Ben

“In Writing we were writing about Edinburgh Castle. We made a fact file. We had to list all the facts about Edinburgh Castle.” Katie

“In assembly all the classes spoke about Maths Week. They spoke about what they had done. Me (Maira), Ben and Euan stood up and spoke about what we had done, the parabolic curves and job posters.” Maira

“As a maths starter we played Countdown. We had to make a big number using small numbers.” Harry

Class blog- 16th September

“In maths we learnt clockwise and anti-clockwise and then we played Simon says. We had to follow instructions like right angle turn clockwise or anti-clockwise.” Ross

“In maths we also made maps of place. Then we gave directions using clockwise and anti-clockwise.” Harry

“On Friday we went outside and we went into 3s. We had to draw a line with chalk. One person at a time closed their eyes and the other people had to direct them with instructions like, clockwise, anti-clockwise and right angle turn.” Amelia

“On Thursday, we learnt about jobs in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s in Glasgow. We watched a video about shipbuilding in Glasgow. Then we had to make a job advert for a 1960’s shipbuilder. It had to say when you go to work, how much you get paid and the skills you would need.” Mason and Mueez

“On Friday we did some mindful listening outside. We had to close our eyes and stay quiet to think of all the things we could hear around us.” Jad

“In literacy, we practised summarising. We used the ‘nutshell’ technique. We watched a video about giraffes diving into a pool. After watching it we used the information to write a summary.” Arnav

“In R.M.E we learnt about Judaism.  Their holy book is a scroll called the Torah. It’s the same as the first part of the Bible.” Euan

“We wrote poems called limericks. They were silly stories with an AABBA rhyme pattern.” Euan

“In Science we were in groups. We made gears last week. We attached them to a piece of paper. We turned one around to see which way the other one goes. We found out that no matter how many gears you have, the odd numbered ones go the same way as the first and the even ones go the  opposite way. Then we got a stop watch, one person turned the gear and one person counted how many times it span around. We discovered that the smaller the second gear, the faster it goes.” Aiza

Class Blog – 9th September

“On Thursday we did Science. We had to make gears out of cardboard. We made a hole in the middle and then put the two gears together. We watched a video about renewable energy and answered some questions.” K and Millie

“We did some philosophy. We did some reading and then answered some questions with the talking stick. The questions were, “If you copy someone’s picture is it yours?” and “Can building be sad?” Mason

“On Monday we looked at a picture and tried to figure what was happening and what people were doing. We used these skills to help us predict.” Erin

“On Tuesday we looked at maps of Glasgow. We were looking for different buildings, rivers and places. We used North, South, East and West to help.” Harry

“On Thursday we looked at a page from “Where’s Wally?” and looked for different characters. We did this to practise scanning, then we read a text and scanned for words. The text we were reading about was about the rocket that was delayed.” Zak, K and Roslyn

“On Thursday we did some comprehension cards that we marked ourselves at the end.” Amelia

“On Tuesday we made some bunting and letters for our display about Children’s Rights.” Katie

“In our topic lessons we learnt about buildings around Glasgow. We learnt about tenements, high rises and suburbs.” Erin

 

Class Blog – 2nd September

“We learnt about rescue rats. They have been trained to save people from earth quakes, find land mines and sniff out diseases. We made presentations about them.” Millie

“We did a philosophy lesson. We sat in a big circle and we passed around the talking stick. We read a part of a story and after talked about where our thoughts were and are all things connected.” Maira

“We did a spelling test this week, with some long words, some short words and some common words.” Katie

“With Mrs Shaw we got to do mindful eating of a malteaser.” Aiza

“We did some revision of adding.” Steven

“We did P.E with Mr McMillan. We played hockey, we practised passing.” Sara

“We are learning about Glasgow in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. We talked about some similarities and differences. We did a matching activity where you had the date, name and a picture of different events. For example, the Glasgow Garden Festival and we had to guess the date. We also discussed things we wanted to find out.” Josh

“We learnt about chance and uncertainty. We played a game with a dice.” Harry
