Friday 27th February – Weight and Technologies

This week, we have continued our work on weight.  Some of us used the balance scales to weigh classroom items. This meant we had to use addition and multiplication skills too!

This week, we started our Technologies Learning Journey.  We have been learning about gaming and consoles from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. We have used our research skills, sequenced information, created a short profile and compared information with modern gaming using a Venn diagram.

In later weeks, we will do some coding, explore internet safety, investigate how batteries work and create some pixel art.

Friday 20th February: Maths and Lunar new Year

This week, we made fortune tellers to celebrate Lunar New Year.  We wrote “Happy New year” on the outside in Chinese characters and then chose numbers for the inside.  Then, we created some new year messages.  The number 0 was definitely the most challenging!

In Numeracy and Maths we have started exploring weight.  We used concrete materials (the thousands, hundred and tens) to partition (split) to help us prepare for converting kilograms and grams.

We played games to help us practice our weighing sills before we use the equipment next week.  There were lots of different types of scales.

Thursday 12th February – Health and Wellbeing (PE)

In the gym hall, we have been doing gymnastics. We have been practicing balances, jumps and rolls. It’s important to land on two feet from a height. On the box, we could use our hands to help us land on our knees or feet after using the springboard.

Outside, we have been working on our rugby skills.  We have been working on passing at waist height with our fingers in a W shape.  We played a match in our last lesson. We used tigs instead of tackles.  We had to run fast and work as a team to pass the ball out of our area and touch it down at the line to win a point.
