Bible Alive

This week was our last Bible Alive session in P5.  We will have another three sessions in primary 6.

Bible Alive is really fun and we got to act out lots of different Bible stories.  We learnt sign language to remind us there are 66 books in the bible.  There are 39 books in the old testament and 27 in the new testament.  Connie

We did lots of acting and there were lots of new things we learnt about the bible.  Finlay McL

Basketball was fun.  The matches were teaching us to pass, dribble and shoot as a team.  Then when we were shooting at the hoops we practised lay-ups, three pointers and normal shooting.  It was challenging to aim and get the ball high enough to get into the hoop. Michael

Basketball was really fun.  Sometimes it was a bit hard to work well as a team as we are learning to listening to one another and help each other as a team.  Haaniaa

Seven Wonders of the World

We have located the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ on a map in addition to the continents and oceans of the world.  We then researched facts about our favourite ‘Wonder of the World’ and the country it is located within, using the headings lifestyle, climate and culture.

My favourite activity this week has been doing the ‘Seven Wonders of the World’ picture.  It was tricky to draw all the ‘Wonders of the World,’ but I was proud of my final picture and it was fun.  Leiyaa

Coding

We used Scratch to create our own Pong Game.  I found it quite easy as I code a lot, but others found it hard because it was new to them.  I really like coding.  Ephraim

Badminton

We have been doing badminton and we practised serving over the net this week.  It was hard, but I got it eventually.  Next week we are going to try some small games.  Noelle

Basketball

Basketball has been fun and our teams have been hyped to win games.  We were practising dribbling with both hands and shooting into a basketball net.  Lay-ups were difficult, but fun.  We can’t wait to get in the new MUGA to play proper full games with two nets instead of hula hoops.  Michael

7 Wonders of the World

Yesterday we were learning about the ‘Seven Man Made Wonders of the World.’  We had a sheet where we had to draw the flag of the country the wonder of the world was in, then we researched facts about our chosen wonder of the world.  I chose Petra in Jordan.  Petra was carved in red sandstone.  The area is known as ‘Rose City’ because of its colour and it has also been referred to as the ‘Lost City.’  Menaal

Learning Journeys with Mr Atkinson

Hi P5a readers, I wanted to update you on what we have been doing in our Learning Journeys since our last entry.

I am delighted to share that the pupils produced wonderful models and sculptures illustrating the issue of marine littering and their efforts were recognised with Keep Scotland Beautiful awarding the class with participation certificates.

Afterwards the class explored the qualities of collaborating and communicating, building on their experiences of using these META Skills in the Upstream Battle project. Some of the activities that helped to develop these further included; discussing the different methods of how emotions are expressed, analysing what makes a good team player,  learning from the past but focusing on the future, participating in scenarios that explored social situations such as arriving late to a meeting and being mindful of how we interact with peers.

P5a are currently enjoying the Wildlife Conservation Learning Journey! First the children revisited food chains by exploring the school grounds to identify an example of one. They then created a diagram of what they had found and we discussed food webs and some related terminology such as producer, primary consumer, secondary consumer, tertiary consumers, ecosystems and decomposers.  The class has also learned that not all energy is transferred to the next stage in the food chain and they completed some calculations to determine how much is lost. P5a were fascinated with discovering which creatures are extinct or endangered and made some insightful comments as to why some physical features help animals to thrive and survive. After this, the children then started to categorise them into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores which led to interesting debates and some surprises. To mark Earth Day everyone created their own upcycled and sustainable plant pots using plastic bottles that were kindly donated. Each pupil decorated them with patterns or themes, went on to plant a sunflower into the pots and have now taken them home. Over the next couple of weeks some learning will take place outdoors if the good weather continues!
