Ukraine

Our Euros football team for Sports Week has been Ukraine.  We have researched the Ukrainian football team and well known landmarks.  We  learnt that the sunflower is the Ukrainian national flower, therefore some of us made large sunflowers out of card.  We tried hard to learn a short Ukrainian folk dance in addition to creating our own Ukrainian football chants with a beat and rhythm.

I liked learning the dance.  The dance was fun, but hard too.  – Matthew

I liked creating the chants. – Oliver & Archie

Design Challenge

This week we were given the challenge of designing a landmark from a Euro 2024 or Olympic country that we could make using card, K’Nex or Kapla, with the plan to build our final structure next week and light it up with Micro-bits.  We experimented with ‘Make-Do’ kits’ as a method of securely connecting pieces of card together.

It was trial and error whether we could make the buildings with different materials.  It was fun.  Rose

We made an excellent leaning Tower of Pisa. Matthew

We have started a block of athletics this term.  We have been learning how to throw a javelin, disc and shot put.  We learnt the foot work to perform a long jump with great success.

Cultural Week

We read a story called ‘Under the Hijab’ which taught us the importance of the Hijab for Muslim women and girls.

We had a visitor on Monday who taught us how to create a sunset background using watercolours.  We then cut out a mosque shape in black paper and mounted it on our sunset.  We then had a go at writing in Arabic.  Those of us who felt confident writing in Arabic  wrote ‘Eid Mubarak’  on our sunset pictures.

Cultural Food

This morning we had the opportunity to make Mango Lassi and Vegetable Samosas with the help of our very kind parent helpers.

Henna Art

Today we finished off our Henna art pictures.  We took inspiration from our own Henna patterns on our hands and created our own designs using black fine line pens.  We then used water colour to make a colourful contrasting background.

It was really fun to make the Henna patterns on our own hand outline.  It was kind of tricky though! – Ethan

As part of our Eid celebration, we were allowed to wear our own clothes to celebrate the occasion.  It was nice to see children in our class wearing traditional clothing to celebrate this special occasion.

This Friday we had an Eid party and we got to wear cultural clothes. We got to get Henna done and make Samosas and Mango Lassi, it was delicious! – Daanya
