We worked together and used out Teamwork Makes the Dream Work skills to build Knex from instructions. Next week we will be using creativity and problem solving to make robot vehicles – because now we know how Knex works.
Writing
We were back writing narrative stories this week. We are working on characters who kind and unkind and how we can show that through what they say.
Numeracy
We learned 6 new games this week to help us with our addition and multiplication. And when to take chances!
As well as writing in jotters we learn our spelling words in other ways too like…
Health and Wellbeing
We have been looking at the way we think and what we can do to help us get along better with ourselves and others. We looked at different scenarios where there might be different amounts of blame for people. We also realised that sometimes things happen because of bad luck or circumstances.
Art
We have been using different things to make lines and patterns to make art. This week we used chalk to make imaginative drawings on black paper. We also used a Doodle Grid to draw exactly what we saw using our observation skills.
Maths Week Scotland
We found a mistake in the book Mummy Math! It said a cone only had one face (it has two – one curved and one flat). We investigated which shape only has one face (and we looked at edges and vertices) We wrote an email to the publishers to suggest they replace the cone with a sphere because it only has one face.
We also played lots of shape maths games and competed fairly.
We made large frames of 3D objects using our construction area.
As part of our Storytelling work we recorded each other to see how well we were using actions in our storytelling to keep the audience engaged and to help us remember the details. When we watched them back we could see if we achieved the success criteria.
Health and Wellbeing
This week as part of our Bounceback work we have been identifying unhelpful thinking. We wrote about what we could say to someone who was experiencing unhelpful thinking to give them a “reality check”. Then we created dramas using the reality checks we would give.
Art
We used our sketches of the school building that we did last week then used a viewfinder to select an interesting part of the drawing to transform into an abstract piece. We practised using chalk and charcoal to make a range of tones and lines and then used that medium to create our art.
This week we used adjectives to make the talking chicken and the talking dog better in the story. We used our storytelling skills to make our story more exciting.
Art and Design
We learned how to draw what we see and not what we think we see. We used lines and tones and drew the school. There was a lot of patterns.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Did you know that this week was…
World Dolphin Day
National Make Your Bed Day
National Teddy Bear Day
We used our Teamwork Makes the Dream Work Skills to make Dolphin sanctuaries, instructions on bedmaking and designed new teddy bears with labels and captions.
As part of our literacy we are practising our fluency when we read with a partner. We are remembering:
To stop at full stops
To use a question voice when there is a question mark
To use a character voice when we see speech marks
To use a voice that sounds like we are speaking
Hockey
Our MUGA PE is hockey. We are learning push passing and how to stop the ball with the hockey stick. We played some games against teams and played fair.
Story Writing/Story Telling
This week we tried to include some speech marks in our stories. We practised in pairs. We wrote the story of The Talkative Turtle that we knew really well from telling it to our friends.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
We worked on our teamworking skills when building with Lego. We played Creationary, made hurdles, tricky balance towers and made amazing mazes.
