Brilliant Burns!

Happy New Year everybody! Welcome back to our first blog of 2026!

We have started a new topic in P4a, read on to find out more!

We will focus on exploring the question – What influences the food we eat in Scotland?

Today we started off by learning mini things about Robert Burns, Scottish food and celebrations. For example, shortbread is  a Scottish product (it’s also tasty!)

We learned a little about Robert Burns and then used iPads to research information about him, this was fun! Robert Burns wrote lots of poems and he was from Scotland. We are looking forward to making our own Scottish recipes and having our very own Burn’s Supper!

“I found this really fun and found out lots of facts about Robert Burns!” Elay

“It was fun to work with my partner Christopher, we were an excellent team!” Ruaridh

“Did you know that Robert Burn’s favourite food was haggis, neeps and tatties with some whiskey!” Isla

Stay tuned for more updates!

EPIC ENTERPRISE!

This week we’ve been very busy creating Christmas products and selling them to make money! Before this, we learned what ‘Enterprise’ is, we got into groups and made business names, logos and slogans. For example,

Look-Look Special

Team Tinsel – It’s Tinsel Time!

MAEJT – MAEJT is maejtical!

Christmas Spirit – Crafts so good, Santa would be jealous!

Team Christmas – Click & Collect Christmas!

We had a £50 budget to start with and we bought items from Mrs Hobson’s ‘shop, made products such as cards and decorations and sold them to Mr Chrystal and Mrs Orr. We had to persuade them that our products were worth the money!

“My team won as we made the biggest profit!” Jovie

“I loved getting to make all the crafts and getting to sell them, as I have a creative side!” Isla

“I think it was hard creating products but we managed to do it!” Maryam

Calendars at Christmas

This week in Maths, we learned all about the calendar and also about Advent in RME. These  link because it is coming up to Christmas and we have lots  of Advent Calendars in our homes. We were also learning about what other countries and cultures do to celebrate Advent.

In Mexico they have a 9 day festival called Las Pasadas, which is when they reenact the nativity and also hit pinatas , children share the treats and sing songs. In Denmark, on 1st December they light a special candle to countdown to Christmas.

Today in Maths, we had  stations . We played an ipad game, made a poster about the months of the year and we also added important dates to a December calendar to help us learn how to use a calendar.

“I liked the IPad station, it was fun!” Elay

“I loved the calendar sheet and I liked the questions.” Ryan

Terrific Taekwondo

This week our highlight was a special Taekwondo PE session! We had a nice instructor from a local club. We did a warm up first then learned some moves. In pairs, we had to put on a special arm pad, run up to our partner and kick it 1,2,3,4 then 5 times in a row! Some people even wore their own martial arts kit, for the session!

“I felt good learning some taekwondo!” Olivia W

“I really enjoyed doing something we don’t usually do and now I know another type of martial arts!” Ruaridh

Designing Dioramas!

Our highlight of the week were the two open afternoons! Lots of parents came in, as we designed rainforest dioramas. We used shoeboxes, tissue paper for the background, pipe cleaners to make things stand up also to represent vines and pictures of rainforest animals. We also labelled  the four layers of the rainforest, these are: emergent, canopy, understorey and forest floor. We will finish them today, have a look at our amazing work so far!

“I loved making the dioramas of the rainforest because there were lots of animals, vines and water to add!” Isla

“I loved it when we were making our dioramas. I like that mine has a little monkey swinging from a vine.” Ryan

P4a’s Tessellation Stations!

This week,  in Maths, we learned more about tessellation. This involves creating patterns with 2d shapes which have no gaps.  There were 3 stations for this lesson, 1 was using an ipad to make a pattern or a picture using tessellation. Another station was using paint to print a tessellation and the last one, was laying out 2d shapes in pairs.

” I noticed that triangles, diamonds and hexagons tessellate with rhombus shapes.” Carson

“I liked the printing station because we got to use paint and shapes to make tessellation.” Harry

“I really enjoyed using the Ipads since we got to make a lot of tessellation and create our own pictures.” Ruaridh

Brilliant Basketball

This week our highlight was doing P.E. on the new Street Court! First we played Cat & Mouse to warm up. We used hoops to change up the game and this meant we could use them as safety zones and have a 10 second rest. After this Penelope taught us a fun game called ‘Hot Pumpkin’ using chest passes. Lastly, we played a real match of basketball and it was really fun!

“I liked when we played the basketball match.” Rahaf

“I didn’t know I could actually score a basket but I did!” James

P.S. Our class feel very special this week as Miss Abdullah has joined us and will be working with us for the next 6 weeks!

Colour run fun!

Last week was extraordinary because our school held a Sponsored Colour Run! You have 15 minutes to run around the school and different colours are thrown at you, as you can see from our funny photos! This was all in order to raise money for our school and buy more iPads, which we love to use!

“I felt happy and it was worth it!” Harry

“I enjoyed running around the school, especially at  the water station where they sprayed water at you!” Hugo

Tremendous text maps!

This week we created text maps by drawing pictures and adding some words to  retell the story. We focused on a diary entry from George. We learned this is called writing from the character’s perspective. Text maps can help us with our writing because we are also writing a diary and we could magpie interesting vocabulary.

“I felt happy and amazing doing this activity!” Kate

“This lesson helped me a lot with my writing, as I found it useful.” Jura

“I found this fun and amazing!” Elay

Sketching and painting

This we week we sketched and painted a scene from George’s Marvellous Medicine.  We used watercolours to do this and were inspired by the illustrator, Quentin Blake. Next week, we will add detail with fine liner.

“I loved doing the painting and everyone was really creative!” Isla

“I though the hardest part was painting the head but I now I’m happy with it!” Elay

“I liked creating the smoke clouds and everybody’s look really magical!” Oscar
