IDL Blog 1 February 25

Hi there and welcome to the first IDL Blog of this year. It’s Mrs Dougall here, as you may know, I have a different role this year and I am now responsible for Inquiry Based Learning across P2, P3 and P4.  This means that I complete Learning Journeys with the children, starting with a problem/question and working towards them finding a solution using teacher and child led learning across different aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence.   I now teach P4a for 3 periods of IDL and on of PE each week and it is so lovely to be part of their continuing Learning Journeys.

We started this session with an investigation into Energy. We learned about Kinetic, Solar, Wind and Hydro Energy. Our trip to the Science Centre allowed us to apply this learning in a different setting.

We have also fitted in two short blocks of learning about Meta Skills, these are the skills that we use everyday in our learning and our Meta Skills Lessons help us to investigate the skills, apply them in practical situations and recognise the importance of them in our daily learning. These Meta Skills will help equip the children  for the World of Work.

Our first Meta Skills focus was on Creativity and Curiosity and we are currently focusing on Communicating and Collaborating.  The class teachers work with us to apply these skills in all of our learning.

Our second Learning Journey was all about Climate Change. We focused on learning about the impact of Global Warming on the seas.

We also had a visit from a Scottish Government Climate change advisor.

We are about to start a our new learning journey and are all so excited.

Burn’s party prep!

Hi readers and welcome back!

We missed you last week because of the storm – crazy eh?

As usual we’ve been really busy this week 🙂

In Maths, we were learning more about grid references, finding hidden words and even designing our own grids!

In Literacy, we have been analysing leaflets and magpieing key elements such as bullet point and even subheadings! We are working on our own leaflets all about Robert Burns and are typing these, using Google Slides.

On Friday morning, we went to lunch hall to prepare food for our Burn’s Supper this afternoon. Here we are designing our own haggis pastry parcels. Have a look at our cool designs! We are looking forward to our Burn’s celebration later and will share some photos next week.

Have a lovely weekend!

Happy New Year and welcome back to our blog!

“We learned some new words that we didn’t know and I really liked it!” Sarah

“In Maths, we were learning about area. To work out area you can count squares inside a shape, if the line is curvy on the shape  you only count the squares that are full or half or more.” Neave

“We also played an area game and you to make a shape with a certain area. Some people even created connectives!” Basmah

“Yesterday, we found out our new topic which is about Robert Burns. He was a Scottish poet and we are planning to have our own Burn’s supper!” Abdallah
