P3 Sports Day Fun

P3C had a fantastic time at Sports Day, full of energy, teamwork, and big smiles! Pupils took part in a variety of exciting stations, including bean bag challenges, rugby, football, and the classic egg and spoon race. Everyone got involved, cheering each other on and giving their best effort. The highlight of the day was running in the final events, where the excitement and encouragement from classmates made it extra special. A huge thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support us – your presence made the day even more memorable. Well done, P3

Measurement Fun in P3C

In P3C, pupils have been enjoying a hands-on experience in measurement using measuring tapes and metre sticks! They explored how to read centimetres and metres, practised estimating and recording lengths, and measured everything from desks to doorways – and especially enjoyed measuring each other! Indoors and outdoors, the children worked in pairs to measure objects and distances. It was a fantastic way to build real-world skills.

STEM Afternoon

This week, our class participated in an exciting STEM afternoon filled with exploration, learning, and hands-on fun!

The children participated in a rotation of activities, moving around different stations to experience various STEM challenges.

At one station, we focused on building our ICT skills using  Chromebooks, with support from our brilliant Digital Leaders. They guided us through logging in, exploring websites, and practising key computer skills.

Next, we rotated to the iPad station, where we learnt how to scan and access QR codes. It was fun and fascinating to see how these tiny codes can open up a world of digital content with just a tap!

At another station, we got creative with our STEM boxes, which were filled with building materials like LEGO, Stickle Bricks, magnets, and more. Working in teams, we built towers, bridges, and even vehicles—applying engineering skills and creative thinking to turn our ideas into reality.

Each group spent time at every station, making sure everyone got a chance to explore, build, and learn. It was a fantastic afternoon full of teamwork, technology, and creativity.

Music Exploration with Mrs Lyall!

In music, P3C had a wonderful experience with our music teacher, Mrs Lyall. The children had the chance to practise playing music using a variety of musical instruments. There was a real buzz of excitement as everyone explored different sounds and learned how to play each instrument with care and rhythm.

The children sat in a circle, with musical notes placed in the centre. Each group either took turns or played music together, using their instrument to make sounds that matched the notes in the centre.

It was a fantastic experience that inspired creativity, teamwork, and musical thinking.

P3C Practising for the School Show and Learning About Road Safety!

What an exciting week it’s been in P3C! We’ve been busy practising and perfecting our lines for the upcoming school show! Everyone has been working hard to make sure we know exactly where we need to be on stage and how to deliver our lines with confidence. It’s so much fun to rehearse with our friends, and we can’t wait for everyone to see our performance!

But that’s not all! Today, we were also visited by the Junior Road Safety Officers. They taught us some really important tips about how to stay safe on the roads. From looking both ways before crossing to understanding traffic signs, we learned a lot of valuable lessons. It’s always great to be reminded about how to stay safe while walking, cycling, or even crossing the street!

With the show just around the corner, P3C are having an amazing time preparing for the big day. We are ready to shine on stage.

Spring Show

P3C have been so busy this past week practising for our spring performance.

We have assigned roles, learned our songs and are in the process of learning all our lines.

We are so excited for families to come along and see it. 🙂

Next week we will continue to practise and do some amazing artwork to put up on the stage.

IDL Blog March 25

Hi there and welcome to the first IDL Blog of this year. It’s Mrs Dougall here. As you may know, I have a different role this year and I am now responsible for Inquiry Based Learning across P2, P3 and P4.  This means that I complete Learning Journeys with the children, starting with a problem/question and working towards them finding a solution using teacher and child led learning across different aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence.   I now teach P3C for 3 periods each week and it is so lovely to be part of their continuing Learning Journeys.

We started this year investigating how plants and animals depend on each other for food. We learned about food chains, developing this learning into food webs and then focused on environmental changes across the Great Barrier Reef.

We then began to focus on seasonality and the challenges of growing and planting in winter in Scotland. We created terrariums (mini greenhouses) and carefully monitored the temperature in them while watching what happened to our plants growing inside the jars.

We have also fitted in two short blocks of learning about Meta Skills, these are the skills that we use everyday in our learning and our Meta Skills Lessons help us to investigate the skills, apply them in practical situations and recognise the importance of them in our daily learning. Recognising how they use these Meta Skills will help equip the children  for the World of Work.

Our first Meta Skills focus was on Creativity and Curiosity and our next blocked focused on the skills for Communicating and Collaborating.  The class teachers work with us to apply these skills in all of our learning. At our recent Meta Skills Day, our visitors were so impressed that the children were able to relate their careers to the meta skills they use.

We are now a few weeks into our third Learning Journey of the year. Our Big Question is – What is Scottish Food? We have investigated the Top Ten Scottish Food Brands, dispelled some myths about the Scottish Diet and completed Food Maps to show the diversity of foods produced around the whole of Scotland and where Scottish seafood is exported to around the world.

It is so lovely to see how excited the children are during their learning journeys and their ability to share their IDL learning.

Man Vs Robot

In our Man Vs Robot topic, Primary 3C explored the world of programming by using Microbits, small programmable devices designed to teach children to learn about coding and electronics. With the guidance of our school’s Digital Leaders, they helped us to learn how to program the Microbits to display pictures, words, and even interactive messages. This hands-on experience allowed us to see first hand how robots, like Microbits, rely on specific programming to function.

Sharing our Writing with P2

P3C really enjoyed P2 coming to visit us to share our writing and experience of New Lanark. We firstly created a story map of our  writing before writing our own recounts of our experiences using emotive language and time openers. The children were also very excited as a familiar face (Mrs Norman) was there too!

P3C Visit to New Lanark – A Day of Discovery!

On  Monday, P3C embarked on an exciting trip to New Lanark, where we could step back in time and explore the mill village’s fascinating history and learn about its role in society during the Victorian times.

The day began with a truly immersive Victorian classroom experience, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. As we entered the classroom, the children were greeted by their teacher dressed in full Victorian attire and adopting the role of a Victorian educator! Mrs Whitwill introduced the children to the traditional classroom drills of the time. The students practised their writing on slates, worked through arithmetic exercises, and took part in a variety of other exciting lessons. There was even a little Scottish dancing at the end.

Many of the childrens highlights were definitely the interactive Annie McLeod Experience, where students got to see what it was like to live and work in New Lanark through the eyes of a young girl in the past. We enjoyed taking a fun picture at the end of the ride.

We finished the day with a guided tour, where the pupils learned about the incredible work of Robert Owen and his progressive ideas for improving workers’ lives. The children enjoyed discovering how life was for families in the 18th and 19th centuries, from the machinery in the mill to the workers’ living conditions.

To wrap up the day, we split into two groups and explored two of the most significant homes in New Lanark: the house of Robert Owen and the home of Annie McLeod. Visiting these two contrasting residences was a brilliant way to compare and contrast the lives of two very different people. The children loved seeing Robert Owen’s home, which was grand and reflective of his status. In contrast, they were equally fascinated by Annie McLeod’s humble living conditions, which showed the stark reality of life for many of the mill workers

A huge thank you to all the parent helpers who joined us, and to the staff at New Lanark for making this trip such a memorable experience for everyone. What a great way to end our Victorian topic!
