P3C – Week 7!

P3C have had another great week!

Maths

This week with Miss Lamb, the class have been revising the name of 2D shapes and identifying how many sides and corners they have. We were able to use our previous learning to identify whether the corners were right, acute or obtuse angles. We came up with some silly ways to remember their names and how many sides they have.

Hexagon – the ‘x’ is also in the word six – 6 sides

Pentagon – pen for penguin – a cheeky penguin would give you a high five – 5 sides

Octagon – an octopus has eight tentacles – 8 sides

We will be working on 3D shape over the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled!

Numeracy

This week in Numeracy, pupils have been working on greater than and less than. Pupils enjoyed listening to the ‘Number Gators (Greater Than, Less Than, Symbols Song’ which helped them to remember the symbols. Pupils even created their own greater than and less than signs.

Writing

Miss Lamb was so impressed by the pupils knowledge of Safari as part of last week’s Talk homework. They children came in ready with vocabulary such as ‘camouflage’ and ‘habitat’. We read The Ugly Five by Julia Donaldson, watched some Safari video clips and then continued the story from a story starter, imagining we were on an African Safari. We had lots of wonderful ideas and thought about our senses to describe our surroundings.

Reading

This week the pupils have been working hard on their reading books. Pupils have been working on their comprehension and inference skills.

P.E.

This week in P.E. pupils have been working on their throwing and catching skills. Due to out pour of rain, pupils continued the P.E. session inside with some fun Zumba!

Space Topic

As part of World Space Week, pupils had the fantastic idea to present to the Primary 2 classes sharing all their learning on space so far. Pupils were each given a topic to research such as a planet, space history or the future of space. The P2 classes were super impressed with the knowledge the class had. Excellent work P3C, I definitely see plenty of future astronauts in our class!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
