P3b 2024-2025

As part of our learning of Ancient Greece, we have been investigating the health benefits of a mediterranean diet. The ancient Greeks were really healthy and grew lots their own produce. We thought it would be a great experience to follow a simple recipe to make our own Greek salad using olives, feta, yoghurt, tomatoes, green leaves, red onion and olive oil with traditional Greek flat breads. It was good to learn the preparation skills and processes involved in food hygiene, using ingredients and following a recipe. And yes, it was delicious!

We know how important it is to use every opportunity to develop our social skills and have some fun socialising with our stage friends. Take a look at our party pictures, we had such a good time dancing and playing games together!

The children are continuing their music lessons with the fantastic Mrs Lyall (East Renfrewshire music specialist). They have been learning to identify musical notation and practising their singing pitch, rhythm and beats. I have been so impressed by how quickly they have attained these skills and this has largely been down to how much they enjoy the games and variety of activities each time.

We are currently exploring how to read, write, draw and display time using both analogue and digital clocks. It is important for us to understand the differences between these and to be able to use the language of time and to apply all of these skills in the context of word problems and games playing.

As part of our whole-school commitment to the learning and skills application of S.T.E.A.M subjects, we were able to visit the Glasgow Science Centre. P3B had an amazing time exploring the Body Works interactive scientific testing models and loved the variety of activities involving different technologies and disciplines of Science, Mathematics and Engineering on the 1st floor. We finished our afternoon with a visit to the fantastic Planetarium to experience a journey across our Solar System.

This term, we have really enjoyed developing our ball skills in football and now hockey. We are lucky to have lots of footballers in our class, who have shared their knowledge and expertise with their peers. Now we are learning the rules of Hockey and how to hold and use our hockey sticks correctly. For our indoor P.E. sessions, we have moved on from fitness and started our programme with mat disciplines and rolls.

We are very proud of all the wonderful groups, activities and sports that our class are committed to in and out of school. Here are a few of our pupils who had shared their recent sporting successes with us.

After much discussion, we have chosen ‘Ancient Greece’ as our 1st I.D.L topic this term. We thought it made sense to find out where modern Greece is located geographically and where we are too! This will allow us to compare modern maps of Greece to how Greece of the past looked and find out why.

Our class is rich in opportunities to develop our language skills and reading fluency. We make time to regularly read for pleasure and really enjoy using our library space and classroom to dive into another world through reading!

We also have many super talented footballers in our class who love to share their achievements with their peers, well done!
