Zoo Lab Workshop.

As part of our learning of the Amazon Rainforest, we were lucky to  be able to take part in an interactive workshop provided by the excellent Ash from Zoolab. We were able to learn more about particular species and see and hold these up close. This was really exciting and there were a number of really curious and brave individuals in our class who volunteered to hold them!

IDL Blog Term 4

On our most recent Learning Journey, P3 have been working towards the RSPB Bronze Wild Challenge award.

To mark World Earth Day, we made Bird Feeders using recycled materials. We were then able to use our fabulous spotting and identification skills to complete a survey of the birds using our playground and school grounds.

We have also completed a BioBlitz survey of the school grounds to record everything that we could spot while observing a small area for a longer period of time – we had to be really patient to see what would move into our areas while we were observing.

It’s just as well that we have been working so hard to develop our Meta Skills of Focusing and Adapting.

Eid Celebration – Outdoor Artwork.

As part of our Eid Celebration Week, the class have been learning all about the geometry and intricate patterns in Islamic art and ceramics.

These incredible artworks are located around the globe and the children felt inspired to forage for natural materials and create their own symmetrical patterns.

As you can see, they made fantastic patterns and worked brilliantly within their collaborative groups.

Eid Celebration Week.

This week we explored our knowledge and understanding of Eid. The special celebration that comes after the Muslim month of Ramadan.

We took part in a number of lessons and activities throughout the week; from designing and making our own Eid lanterns, researching what happens during Eid and recording this with our own writing and illustrations and learning about Islamic art and taking this outdoors to use our environment.

Easter Fun!

When learning about the Christian Easter story, we discussed the traditions that have been passed down the generations that are still enjoyed today. The symbolism of rolling hard boiled eggs was something that captured the children’s interest and imagination.

We had great fun drawing on our eggs and racing them down the hill.

Show Preparation and Artwork.

The whole of P3 worked together to create a superb backdrop and Sunflower artworks to make our school show extra special. They took inspiration from Vincent Van Gogh to draw their own sunflower pictures and as you can see, they are all so unique and individual.

Our School Show.

We absolutely loved performing our school show, ‘There’s a Sunflower In My Supper’ just before the Easter holidays.

Lots of preparation and hard work went into practicing our lines, acting out the storyline, singing the catchy songs well and creating fun steps to dance to.

We also made our own stage backdrop and artwork. Take a look at our cast hard at work!

Talking and Listening – Personal Presentations.

Although we have been very busy preparing for our school show this week. We have also been practising the important talking and listening language skills that are embedded into all aspects of our learning. The children were asked to prepare a presentation on the topic of a personal passion, hobby or interest to present to their peers.

These opportunities are designed to build learner confidence, provide challenge and independence, develop fluency in pronunciation/phonics, and meaningful communication and interpersonal skills.

There was such diversity in the children’s choice of subject and how they wanted to share their knowledge!

The Wonder of Vitamin C.

Our bodies extract all kinds of vitamins, minerals and nutrients from the food we eat. Some vitamins are excellent at helping to aid the digestive process and are superheroes in protecting our bodies from damage. As part of our active science, we wanted to know if vitamin c could help prevent cell damage by creating a simple observation test using apples, vitamin c and water. We had to set up a fair test, decide on a hypothesis, then observe any changes over a period of 24hrs, then a further 48hrs. The results really amazed us!
