22nd November

Welcome back readers,

We have had a great week in primary 2A.

H&WB-

This week we continued talking about what makes a good friend. We played a game of friendship bingo. We had to find a different friend to fill each box.

PE-

In PE this week we practiced different ways to pass a ball. We played lots of team building games where we were challenged to pass the ball without letting it touch the ground.

In literacy this week we celebrated Book Week Scotland, and spoke about our love of reading. We took part in different tasks; we got to take on the role of Charlie Bucket in a hot seat activity, we drew pictures of all the reasons we love to read, we created a poster about why we love reading and we got time to read in the class library.

Maths-

In maths this week we took part in some problem solving. We also continued prancing our mood and even numbers, greater than and less than signs and counting all the way to 100!

Our tuff tray this week was set with an engineering challenge where we had to make a building tall enough for all of the people and strong enough for at least 7 animals… but we could only use what was provided in the tuff tray.

We also enjoyed continuing to practice using our money skills in out in-class shop.

We also spent time this week practicing hard for our upcoming Nativity play, we can’t wait to get on stage.

Have a great weekend readers and wrap up warm. We will be back next week 🙂

Welcome back everyone, and happy Children in Need!

H&WB

We did some drama this week on showing how to be a good friend and what this looks like. Primary 2 A is full of great friends and we always show friendship which is one of our school values.

IDL- Engineering

We learned about famous engineers this week and spoke about why they are so important, what they had been involved in and how they have shaped the world we live in today.

We were set a challenge of creating a new invention that could be used to remove litter from the ocean. We each designed and labelled a design and then worked in groups to merge of all the designs by using one part of each. After this we drew our final designs and then got to model it using the playdough we made.

Finally, we got to use all of the resources in the classroom to build our final creation! Check them out, we worked so hard.

Thank you for reading our class blog, come back next week to see everything else we get up to.

Blog – October 10th

Welcome back to the primary 2A class blog.

We have had such a busy week, here’s everything we got up to.

Literacy

In literacy this week we started a new sound, we thought of lots of words with the ‘qu’ sound and wrote them in our brand new literacy jotters.

We also continued using our handwriting jotters- this week focussed on letters p, q, d and p. We enjoy using our handwriting jotters and practicing our letters.

Maths

In maths we finished our measurement of length topic by measuring objects in the classroom using our feet, hand-span, paperclips and rods. We worked in pairs and recorded the answers in our workbooks.

We also learned a new game called ‘shake and spill’. In pairs we took a handful of counters (one side is red and one side is yellow) – we take turns to take the counters, shake them in our hands and spill them on the table. From this we add the red sided counters to the yellow sided counters and reach our answer. We recorded this on a worksheet in pairs. We loved this game and creating our own addition questions using the counters.

PE

In gymnastics this week we practiced different jumps from the bench onto mats. We learned about star jumps, straight jumps, pike jumps and tuck jumps.

Check it out.

RME

We learned all about the Harvest festival this week and how it is celebrated. We loved watching a video about Harvest and seeing how people prepare and celebrate.

IDL

Kon’nichiwa, we had a long flight this week all the way to Japan! We learned all about the flag, traditions, clothing, language, food, sport, school, animals and landmarks.

We love visiting new countries every week and talking about the differences between all of the countries and Scotland.

We tried some Bluey karate.

We are lucky enough to be going back to Japan after the October week and make our own cherry blossom trees. If we are we might even get to try some traditional Japanese noodles.

We got some great pictures of Mount Fuji.

We learned that Japan invented a robot that wins every game of rock, paper, scissors. We played with the person next to use to see who might be able to beat the robot.

Here is lots of things that we learned about Japan this week.

Check back in after the holidays to see what we get up to.

STEAM

We were lucky enough to visit the Science Centre this week. We got the chance to discover lots of new interesting things about our body, forces and space.

We also go to travel into space and see the stars, planets, and Milky Way up close!

We were so warm standing next to the sun!

Hello from space.

We made some music.

Cheese!

We absolutely loved our trip and getting to see experiments take place.

Extra-curricular

Some of P2A also attended the school disco this week. Miss Brodie didn’t realise how many amazing dancers were in the class!

After a busy week in Japan, the Science Centre and the school disco we are ready for a relaxing October week.

We look forward to updating you on everything new after the October holiday.

Have a lovely week off, Miss Brodie & Primary 2A 🙂

Maths

In maths we got creative and made a new colourful wall display. ‘Over the Measurement Rainbow’ we all got to make a cloud and measure each piece of the rainbow using cubes or centimetres. We wrote the length of each piece of paper to show the differences in length.

Look at our hard work!

IDL

Unfortunately all flights from Crookfur were cancelled this week so we have not visited a new country. However, we did discuss everything we have learned about Mexico and The Netherlands. Luckily, the food from the Netherlands was still able to make it to our classroom and we all got to try the traditional snack ‘hagelslag’ (bread with chocolate sprinkles).

Fair to say we loved this snack and it has defiantly taken the top spot, for a few of us, from our travel snacks so far.

We can’t wait to see where we go next week!

Modern Languages

Bonjour, during French this week we revisited how to say ‘hello, my name is’, ‘how are you’ and our numbers up to 10. We played a fun game to practice our counting in French. We love learning new languages and can now say ‘hello’ in French, Dutch and Spanish.

Art

We have started making some Halloween decorations to decorate our classroom. This week we made sneaky spiders. They look great.

Thank you for reading this week’s blog, we will be back next week.

Until then, au revoir. Have a lovely weekend.

Blog- 26th September

Hello readers and happy maths weeks 🙂

This week has been very busy in primary 2A- we have been learning lots about how we use maths at home, in school and in our future job aspirations.

Health and Wellbeing

We have discussing what makes a good friend- we then filled in handprints with five qualities that make us a good friend. These are now displayed in our classroom as a friendship flower.

Maths

In maths we have been practicing our addition and subtraction in our jotters, we have been focussing how to lay out our work and answers questioning with missing numbers.

To celebrate maths week we read a new book ‘The Doorbell Rang’ – the book was all about sharing cookies amongst a varying number of characters in the group.

We participated in different task relating to our maths week book.

We practiced sharing cookies between the characters, we looked at sharing depending on the number of people at the table and practiced adding dice together to work out how many chocolate chips our cookie should get.

We have been setting ourselves maths targets at lunchtime to see how we have used maths in the dinner hall and the playground. For example: we counted 40 steps between the dinner hall and the playground, some people cut their sausage roll into 5 pieces, we counted how many hops we did in hopscotch. It was very interesting to see how we use maths out with the classroom.

We have loved maths week and discussing how important our maths skills are.

Literacy

In literacy we have been practicing our ‘ng’ sound and looking at the differences between ‘ong, ing, ang, ung’.

We have also been writing sentences, focussing on who, what, when and where. DLL has been continued this week with new books and new familiar reads- we love getting to read different books every week.
