We enjoyed getting our new reading books this week and reading them during DLL. We learned the story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ and learned action to remember the story.

We also decided to create our own class story, we each got to add a sentence to our story ‘The Adventures of Hannah and Bill’, and we are excited to see what will happen on their next adventure!

We completed a 2D and 3D shape quiz this week and managed to get every question correct! We also got challenged to problem solving questions, we worked in pairs and managed to complete both of the question correctly.

Topic

In our Super Scotland topic this week we created our own tartan kilts. We loved making our own tartans.

We also celebrated Chinese New Year. We made red and gold lanterns and wrote our names in Chinese. We learned the order of the animals of the Chinese calendar and found out that this year is the year of the snake. We learned that most of our class is born on the year of the dog or the year of the pig.

PE

We have been doing yoga every day this week after lunch and love all of the yoga adventures we have been on so far.

We played some tig and also began tennis in PE and learned how to use a tennis racquet.

This week was also very busy with committee meetings – we love hearing what each committee in the school is working. Primary 2A were also super lucky to have Mr Goodfellow join us from high school on his work experience, we loved showing him all of our hard work.

In P2A we love to dance so we end each day with a big dance before home time.

Have a lovely weekend everyone, we will be back next week 🙂

January 24th

Good morning reader,

What a day! I hope you are all staying safe during the storm.

This week we shared our writing pieces about a time we have been a good friend. We loved hearing about times we have shown kindness and respect to each other. We also started our new DLL task boards and got new reading books.

In maths we have been continuing countdown each day to get quicker at our mental maths.

We have also been learning lots about shape and did a class shape quiz. We got 1562 points!

We made maths posters in pairs showing different ways to answer the same question.

As part of our ‘Super Scotland’ topic we learned about coat of arms and got to create our own. We chose our clans and made a coat of arms per clan. We now have: Clan Edinburgh, Clan Glasgow, Clan McGinn and Clan Nessie.

This was really fun as we got to add lots of Scottish themed drawings to our designs.

Construction was busy this week with a challenge to build a Scottish bridge!

Everyone stay safe this weekend with the windy weather and I will see you all on Monday 🙂

IDL Blog January 2025

Hi there, as you may know, I have a different role this year and I am now responsible for Inquiry Based Learning across P2, P3 and P4.  This means that I complete Learning Journeys with the children, starting with a problem/question and working towards them finding a solution using teacher and child led learning across different aspects of the Curriculum for Excellence.   I now teach P2a for 3 periods each week and it is so lovely to be part of their continuing Learning Journeys.

We started the year learning about the Earth’s relationship with the Sun and Moon. We learned the difference between Revolution and Rotation and that the Earth has three main Climate Zones

We investigated the Phases of the Moon

And how the Earth’s tilt, revolution and rotation create the Seasons and change the length of our days.

We then moved onto a short block of learning about Meta Skills, these are the skills that we use everyday in our learning and our Meta Skills Lessons help us to investigate the skills, apply them in practical situations and recognise the importance of them in our daily learning. These Meta Skills will help equip the children  for the World of Work.

Our first Meta Skills focus was on Creativity and Curiosity and we are currently focusing on Communicating and Collaborating.  The class teachers work with us to apply these skills in all of our learning.

Our second Learning Journey turned us all into Food Waste Warriors.  We have discovered that Food Waste can be recycled to produce compost or biogas and we have worked with Sylvia our Catering Manager to educate the children in the school about what should be placed in the food waste bins and to encourage our peers to waste less food .

We investigated where around the world our fruit comes from and how it travels. We learned that different fruits grow in lots of different ways and need different climates to help them grow. We have been collecting seeds and stones from lots of different varieties of fruits and vegetables and will use these in our next Learning Journey.

Over the next few weeks, we will continue to work on developing our Meta Skills and will then move onto our new Learning Journey, I am sure that the children will be keen to share this with you as soon as the new journey is announced!
