Scottish food tasting

As part of our Scotland topic P1C tried some traditional Scottish foods. We tasted vegetarian haggis, potato scones, shortbread, porridge and oatcakes. Some of us thought the haggis was very tasty, but others were not so sure. The shortbread was a favourite and so was the potato scones. We are going to make a pictograph next week of our results and compare what our favourites were  and discuss why we liked/disliked certain foods. We also enjoyed watching and listening to our favourite Katie Morag stories.

P.E and World Book Day

Rebound Games

In P.E this week we have been putting our passing skills to the test and trying to ensure that we throw thoughtfully to allow our partner to catch the bean bag. We have learned that in rebound games such as basketball we have to work together in a team to play an opponent. We had great fun working with our partner to keep a throwing streak going. The first pair to 10 was the winner!

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day P1C had a jam packed day full of fun activities incorporated into our school day.

1 – First we looked at our talented friends stories in a jar/box. As you can see we really do have a talented and creative bunch. It was fun to guess what we thought the story was.

2. Then went to the book swap and swapped over our books!

3. Thirdly our buddies came to our class and we read to each other! P6 read us their favourite story book and we read our class reading books.

4. Mrs Syme came to visit us and read us the story of the Gruffalo with Book Bug. We had a fantastic time exploring the story through games, songs and rhyme.

5. Finally we were delighted to take home our own bookmarks that we made in class. I hope the children have loved using their bookmarks to remember their place when reading their favourite stories.

What an exciting week we have had full of fun and learning.

Scottish Dancing

As part of our Scotland topic P1C have had a wonderful time learning some traditional Scottish dances. Over the past two weeks we have had some very special help from our fantastic P6 buddies! The older pupils showed great leadership and kindness as they demonstrated the steps, helped us remember the moves, and partnered with us during the dances.

Time Stories

P1C had a great time creating their very own time story maps using pictures to bring their ideas to life. Inspired by our workbook time story, the children sequenced an imaginative day from beginning to end. We drew pictures, clocks and a path with a clear line of where we went as time passed. We giggled at the creativity of our peers as we visited the zoo at 1:00 and moved onto the park at 2:00. What a fun activity as we explore our understanding of time.

Class photo day

This week P1C were so excited as we had our milestone class photo taken. Pupils listened carefully to the photographers instructions and were keen to smile for the camera. We look forward to seeing the end result! When we were finished we got a photo in groups afterwords to mark the occasion.

Technology and French Week Beginning 19th January

Mrs Grieve here! Last week we enjoyed learning how to use a mouse in our technology lessons.  The Primary 7 digital leaders are helping us with this!

In French we have been learning some new classroom instructions! We can say and understand the French words for, “cut”, “glue”, “draw”  and “colour.” Why not ask us at home if we can remember any of the words!
Next, we learned how to read the French number words for numbers 1 to 5. We did a “coupez et collez” to show our learning.

Au revoir et passe un bon week-end!

Happy New Year

What a great first week back we have had in P1. It has been great to get back into our class routines and take part in new learning. We enjoy taking on the challenge of our daily targets and leading our own learning across the classroom areas. We look forward to growing our brains as we learn new concepts and topics throughout the new term.

Christmas Party

P1 had an excellant time at our Christmas party. We took part in party games, had a snack and had a special visit from Santa! He even brought us a special gift to take home. What a fantastic and magic afternoon. ☺️

Nativity

Over December we had a very busy time preparing, practising and rehearsing for our class Nativity. The children loved learning their songs, lines and actions and it was evident on school day their hard work had paid off!  We were so proud of how well they were prepared and loved seeing them shine in their first nativity performance.

Fireworks

Back at the start of November we created fantastic firework pictures using oil pastels. We used various lines and colours to create the look of the firework in the sky. We also discussed the importance of safety during firework night and how we can keep ourselves and others safe.
