The Science Centre!

We had an amazing time at the Science Centre on Wednesday! It was filled with lots of Science fun and we were a real credit to the school.

We started off our visit to the Science Centre with a workshop about forces. We learnt about different types of forces like- magnetic forces, push and pull and gravity. We got to conduct our own magnetic experiment and even launched rockets into space!

After our workshop, we had an amazing time exploring all the activities the Science Centre has to offer. We learnt some cool facts from the activities and we really enjoyed seeing how high we could jump and how fast we could run!

Glitter, Painting and Ball Skills

There’s been lots going on in P1c this week. There’s been experiments, exploring and lots of opportunities to develop our writing!

In Literacy we have been discussing what we would like to be when we grow up. We drew a picture of us doing the job and wrote about it. Some of the jobs P1c would like to do are rollercoaster designer, DJ, ballerina and a racing car driver.

Our Health and Wellbeing topic is Food and Health and we are using this as an opportunity to have a go at some instructional writing. We have been learning how important it is to keep our hands clean and wrote instructions how to do this, just ask us to show you! We also wrote instructions to brush your teeth and next week will have a go at writing about our bedtime routines whilst learning about the importance of sleep!

We explored the best way to clean our hands! We were all delighted to have our hands covered in glitter which acted as the germs. Some of us just gave our hands a quick clean with a dry paper towel. Some of us quickly ran our hands under the tap. We quickly realised that the best way to wash our hands is for 20 seconds with soap and water and then drying them properly. There was no glitter left on our hands after this!

For Expressive Arts we are learning about painting. We have already learned a little about mixing colours and put this knowledge into practise by mixing blue and yellow to  make green. We painted four blue balloons, four yellow balloons and then used our colour mixing skills to paint four green balloons.

During our time on the PE Hall we practised our rolls. We are learning to complete a forward roll and had to practise rolling backwards and standing up without using our hands, this was tricky! We then had a go at a pencil roll!

In Numeracy and Maths , we learned when you swap the numbers around in an addition calculation the answer is still the same. We used dominoes to helps us to this!

We are developing our ball skills in the Muga. We practised throwing and catching, rolling and bouncing the ball. We then had a game of over and under to help develop our concentration and coordination.

The cold didn’t stop us having fun on Friday! We enjoyed exploring the ice and some of us even made an ‘ice fire’. We were challenged to construct a model of anything we liked. We built a place, spaceship and even a time machine. The time machine would take us back to the dinosaurs!

Giraffes Can’t Dance, Balancing and More!

This week our story of the week was ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ by Giles Andreae. We thoroughly enjoyed this story and we had a discussion around all our strengths and great things we can do in Primary One. We created our own amazing ‘I can’ posters to show all the wonderful things we can do.

We also enjoyed creating our own musical instruments using lots of different materials and we enjoyed dancing with our instruments.

In Literacy, we read ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and we decided to create the next part of the story. Our stories were super and very imaginative! We also enjoyed using the puppets to retell the story.

We have started our new topic, Food and Health, and we discussed the ways in which we keep ourselves healthy. We created super posters to show the ways we keep healthy at School and Home.

Outdoors in our garden, we had a challenge to create a bridge that we could balance on and walk across. Our bridges were so impressive and we showed super balancing skills!
