It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

We have been getting in to the festive spirit this week in Primary 1C!!

On Tuesday, we had a chance to visit the present room! It was amazing! There was so much to choose from and the children loved selecting a present for someone in their family. They are all so thoughtful!

On Friday, it was Christmas jumper day! We were so excited to show off our festive jumpers! On Friday afternoon, we were able to watch an online pantomime! It has been a very exciting week!

For Christmas jumper day we also designed our own Christmas jumpers! Our designs are so creative!

We have also been practising for our Nativity show! We can’t wait for you to see it. It will be available for you to watch on our Google Classroom from Thursday!

For our writing task this week we wrote all about our class elf, Jingle. He has been getting up to lots of crazy adventures so we had to pick our favourite thing he has done and write about it.

We continue to develop our reading skills. We use our sounds to help us and we blend them together to read lots of different words.

We play ‘spin the bottle’! We love finding out who can identify the most words!

We love reading with a partner, we investigate the story to see what words we can find!

We have been using our blending skills and our knowledge of common words and story world words to write a sentence for our partner to read!

Then, Miss Wallace will read out a sentence and we have to have a go at writing it!

In Numeracy and Maths this week we have been exploring symmetry!

We know that symmetry is when the picture or object is identical on both sides.

We had to complete the other half of a picture to make it symmetrical and we also had to draw a line of symmetry on lots of different pictures.

We created symmetrical pictures!

We have also been consolidating our addition skills!

Revising number bonds!

We have been busy in our outdoor area this week! We love working collaboratively out in the garden.

Well done Primary 1c! x

Christmas has arrived in Primary 1C!

Welcome back to our blog!

We have been busy during Literacy this week!

We listen out for the initial sound in words.

We continue to use our blending skills to help us to read.

We love reading our story world books together!

We continue to practice identifying our common words and story world words. We are now trying to use them in sentences!

We are becoming so much more confident in our writing! It is amazing!

In Numeracy and Maths this week we continue to consolidate our learning of various concepts.

We explored measure!

Number doubles!

Data handling!

Patterns!

As well as addition. We use different strategies to help us with addition such as counting using our fingers, using a number line and counting on in our heads.

On Tuesday, we arrived at school to find an elf in our classroom! He brought with him lots of Christmas decorations for us to decorate our classroom. We were so excited!

Using what we know about data handling, we gathered ideas for what we should call him and then took a vote using tally marks. We then displayed our information in a bar chart and the name with the most votes was Jingle!

Every day this week we have been so excited coming in to find out what adventures he has been up to during the night! We have our very own ‘Elf Adventures’ booklet to record all of his crazy behaviour!

This week, we read the story ‘Stick Man’. During our outdoor time we went to the woodland to find our very own stick men. We then decorated them and created our own ‘Stick Man’ stories.

This week we have been looking at how to keep fit and healthy!

We have been exploring all of the food groups, discussing ways we can keep active and we have been sorting food in to whether they are healthy or not. We know that we are allowed our favourite treats sometimes as long as we are eating lots of healthy foods too!

We made our very own delicious fruit kebabs! We had to follow the recipe very carefully. We used lots of descriptive words such as chop, peel, slice and cut to describe what we had to do to each piece of fruit. It was lots of fun!

Fantastic work Primary 1! I wonder what Jingle will get up to over the weekend …

When I went to Space …

It has been another busy week!

In Literacy we have been reading short stories. We have been reading detectives, spotting our common words and story world words.

We continue to explore our story world reading books.

We have also been writing sentences. We like to test our partner to see if they can read them!

Exploring rhyming stories!

Matching pictures to CVC words!

In Numeracy and Maths this week we have explored time, money and data handling as well as number.

We had to choose the correct coins to buy items.

We had to sort the days of the week in order.

We were gathering information about our favourite flavours of ice-cream. We used tally marks to note down the information and displayed our results in a bar chart.

This week for our space topic we explored the moon and astronauts.

We designed our own rockets!

We created a list of questions that we would ask an astronaut such as …

“Can I see your spacesuit?”

“Why do you float around?”

“Tell me about space travel. Can I go for a spin in your rocket?”

We had to decide what we thought was important for an astronaut to take to space!

We also did a little bit of imaginative writing. We wrote about what we thought we would see if we visited space and we also wrote what we would take to space with us!

We have now finished our Space topic! We have had so much fun learning about the sun, the moon and the stars as well as the solar system and astronauts! We have enjoyed sharing our learning and documenting it in our big book!

Another fantastic week P1c, you are all working so hard!!

Book Week Scotland and Road Safety Week!

Hello! Welcome back to our blog 🙂

It has been a busy week for us this week with Book Week Scotland and Road Safety Week!

We were so excited to receive our Book Bug Bags! We even spotted that this was an example of alliteration! We had a look through the bags together and read the book, “Brenda is a Sheep”, we loved it! We then had a big chat with our friends about our favourite book’s and what we loved about them.

The children loved showing off their hats for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

It has also been Road Safety Week this week! We have had lots of fun completing  activities which help us to understand how to be safe when we are near the roads.

We had to work hard to spot the dangers, we noticed things like children playing to close to the road, people not looking before they crossed the road and people crossing the road at unsafe places.

We then looked at lots of pictures which showed us different places you might cross the road from. We had to decide which pictures were safe and which ones were not.

We created our own road safety posters using the slogan, Stop, Look and Listen!

During Literacy we continue to consolidate our knowledge of single sounds.

We use our sounds to help us to word build!

We practise our story world words and our common words! We are working hard to read and write them.

We are starting to write sentences using our common words. We use our blending skills to help us to write CVC words.

During Numeracy and Maths, we continue to build our number sense! We count forwards and backwards, order numbers and find the missing number.

We also practise our number formation!

We can identify which number is bigger and which is smaller!

We explored Time this week. We look at analogue and digital clocks. We had to match the clocks which were showing the same time!

We worked with a partner to explore number bonds to 10. We had to identify number pairs which worked together to make a total.

What a busy week! Well Done P1c!

P1C are out of this world!

Welcome back to our blog!

In Numeracy and Maths this week we have been exploring various concepts.

We have been measuring using non-standard units such as cubes!

We ordered the towers by length, we were able to identify which one was the tallest and which was the shortest.

We have been revising our knowledge of patterns. We had to continue a pattern and also create our own.

This week we were introduced to 3D shapes! We had a chat about 3D shapes and objects we find all around us such as dice, tins and boxes.

We explored the shapes, discussed their name and their properties.

We then had to sort 3D shapes and pictures of 3D objects.

Some of us have been exploring addition using a number line this week! We have been doing lots of jumping up the number line and playing lots of addition games.

Within Literacy we continue to explore all of the single sounds.

We are working hard to remember all of them so that it helps us to blend words such as cat, dog and man.

We have been exploring our Story world books! We like to spot our sounds and we also try to spot our common/tricky words.

We have been exploring common/tricky words and have been creating sentences.

We have been writing them and we even had a go at using them in a sentence!

For our space topic this week we explored the solar system. We worked hard to identify and name all of the planets.

We then had a go at painting our own planets! We can’t wait to hang them up in our class.

We also worked together to complete a puzzle of the solar system.

In our outdoor area, we were doing lots of writing and drawing.

We created hopscotch on the playground! We had to use our number skills for this!

Well done Primary 1c for another fantastic week! You are all amazing!

Mini Mudder Success!!

Welcome back to our blog! It has been another busy week in P1C.

We continue to explore new sounds. We are working hard to identify sounds in words and we are beginning to use our sounds to help us to read words such as hat, car and log.

Here we are sorting picture cards and objects by their initial sounds.

Practising letter formation to ensure we write our letters correctly,

Sounding out and writing CVC words and some tricky common words!

Playing roll and read with a partner! We work hard to sound out the words.

Finding the sounds we have learned in our story books!

During Numeracy and Maths, we continue to identify, count and sequence numbers.

Here we are working with a partner to order numbers.

Finding numbers to 20!

We have also been exploring money this week. We went on a coin hunt around the classroom to see what coins we could find.

We have also been identifying coins, sorting them and learning about the value of coins.

We even started using coins to make different amounts!

We explored data and analysis this week. We were doing some sorting and we had to identify which groups had the most/least. We sorted cubes by colour and we sorted animals based on where they live, the sea or land.

We continue to explore our classroom areas, working collaboratively with our friends.

We are so excited about our new topic which is Space! Our Halloween writing task generated lots of questions around day and night, the moon and stars so this led us to choosing Space as our new topic. Some of the things we want to learn about are the sun, the moon, the planets, aliens and astronauts!

This week we learned all about the sun! We know that the sun is a star that gives energy to earth. This also allowed us to chat about sun safety and how to keep ourselves safe when it is really hot.

We investigated how the sun shines on earth and how it shines on the moon to give us light at night time.

On Thursday we created some amazing pictures based on Bonfire Night. The children loved exploring various colours and sharing stories of firework displays they had seen.

We were lucky enough to be gifted some sand from our new family centre for our outdoor area. It was so exciting! We had lots of fun helping to empty the bags. We worked together to build sand castles and we even played the floor is lava using the bags!

It was super muddy which made the mud kitchen even more fun! We were splashing in the puddles, making mud soup and mud pies!

We created a smoothie maker again this week through our imaginative play. This week the flavour was banana! We had to mix a few of the paint colours to get the yellow just right.

Mini Mudder!!

The children had a great time doing the mini mudder this morning. It was very muddy and messy but so much fun!!

Before the muddy madness!

During!

After!

Well done boys and girls you did an amazing job of completing the mini mudder!!

The children are so excited to be bringing home their take home folders today. We hope you enjoy having a look through just some of the activities they have completed so far during their time in Primary 1.

Happy Halloween!

Welcome back to our blog! It has been another busy week in P1c!

In Literacy, we continue to develop our phonological awareness as we continue to learn single sounds.

We have been exploring our magnetic letter boards this week, using what we know about sounds to word build CVC words such as cat, man and hop.

When reading these short words, we know to sound them out.

We continue to practise letter formation!

For writing this week, we focused on Halloween. Our writing was all about what we do on Halloween and although this year will be a little different, it seems that the children still have lots to look forward too!

Within Numeracy and Maths, we continue to explore numbers to 10 and beyond.

We have started to explore addition to 10 using loose parts. We worked with a partner to explore addition, giving each other calculations to solve! We had to record the sum and the answer on our addition mat!

We have been exploring time by looking at analogue clocks. We know that an analogue clock is a circle shape and it has numbers 1 to 12 on it. We also know that it has a big hand and a little hand. We made our own analogue clocks and chose which time we wanted it to show.

Sticking to the excitement surrounding Halloween, we have been creating our own potions! We used our amazing imaginations to discuss what we would put in a real potion, we thought about spiders, eyeballs, blood and frogs!

Through drama, we have been acting out the movements of various spooky characters such as zombies, ghosts and witches.

We have even been doing some skeleton dancing!

We made some more Halloween decorations for our classroom.

Using paper plates and tissue paper to make scary pumpkins!

Painting our hand prints to make ghosts!

Even making some Halloween cards for our friends and family.

The children have been so excited about Halloween and love sharing with the class what they are going to dress up as!

At our art area this week we have been exploring Pointillism. We used cotton buds to make little dots which form a picture.

We continue to work collaboratively across our classroom, especially in our construction area! We love to build mansions, castles and jails among many other things.

Have a Happy Halloween from P1C 🙂

Just a reminder that next Friday (6th Nov) is our Spooky Mini Mudder event!

Could you please remember to make sure that the children have appropriate clothing as it will be very muddy and messy.

Copies of the sponsorship form are available on our Google Classroom 🙂

Things are getting spooky in P1C!

We have had a great first week of Term 2, we have been so busy!

We were so excited to share with our friends what we got up to during the October week. We decided to record this in our special books, drawing pictures to show our friends what we did.

In our outdoor area, we were doing lots of problem solving. We created a tunnel using various pipes and tubes of different sizes. We noticed that water was leaking out of one of the pipes so we realised that by lifting them higher, the water would continue to stream through! It required lots of team work!

We continue to engage in imaginative play in our outdoor area. This week we created our own smoothie machine with water and paint!

Exploring water in a different way, some of us were measuring how long the stream of water was by estimating how many steps it would take us to walk to the end.

In Numeracy and Maths this week, we have been focusing on number. We practise our counting to consolidate our knowledge of numbers to 10 and beyond.

We have been exploring one more and one less than, moving up and down the number line.

Number formation is so important, this is something we practise every day. We do this using whiteboards and pens, play-doh and also loose parts!

To show what we know about numbers we worked with a partner to create number posters. This encouraged lots of discussions around how we can make numbers in different ways and how they can be represented in different ways too!

Throughout Literacy, we continue to read lots of stories, making predictions about what we think is going to happen. We then demonstrate our understanding of the story be sequencing the events.

We continue to explore sounds, listening for them in words and practising letter formation.

Finding words with the same initial sound.

Finding sounds in stories and books!

In Health and Wellbeing, we explored another story from Friendship terrace. This week it was all about the importance of sharing. We shared with our class lots of examples of times we have shared with someone or someone has shared with us. It was so lovely to hear all of these stories!

We have been getting in to the spirit of Halloween and we have even started to decorate our role-play area to turn it into a Haunted House! We had a special treat on Wednesday when we made some delicious Halloween themed rice crispy cakes which were delicious. We followed the recipe really carefully, making sure they would be tasty to eat.

Fantastic work P1C! Well done for another great week 🙂 x

Sounds, Stories, Shapes and Measuring!

Hello! We have had a fantastic week of learning in P1c.

In Numeracy and Maths, we have been exploring data. We know that data is really just information. We have been gathering information and sharing our results using tally marks and bar charts.

We know that it helps us if we sort the data first. Here we are sorting our cubes by colour!

We continue to build our number knowledge. Here we are working together to sequence numbers.

This week, we have been measure detectives! We worked hard to find items in our classroom that were longer than our hands, shorter than our feet and lots more!

We were able to sort ourselves in order of height!

We are working hard to consolidate our knowledge of 2D Shape. We can name shapes, sort them and make them! We have also been discussing the properties of each shape.

Within Literacy, we continue to learn new sounds. Through games such as ‘I Spy’, we are able to find items with the same initial sound. We love exploring different activities related to each sound.

Here we are making ‘c’ with cornflakes!

We know that letter formation is so important and so we make sure to practice this each day.

We search for sounds in stories!

Through helicopter stories, we love telling our own imaginative stories! We have so much fun choosing who will play the characters in our story.

To finish off our superhero topic, we have been exploring people who help us. We made a list of all of the people who help us and what they do for us.

For Art this week, we focused on Autumn. We went on a hunt around the playground to find lots of leaves. There were so many great discussions about the different colours, sizes and shapes. We used the leaves that we found to create our very own Autumn wreaths!

In our Outdoor area this week, we worked collaboratively to create a tunnel for the water. We really had to use our problem solving skills to stop the water from leaking out of any of the tubes.

We were enjoying the sun!

We continue to explore all of the classroom areas, working collaboratively with our friends.

Sometimes, we like to finish off a busy day with some dancing!! Here we are showing off our best dance moves.

Well done P1c!! I hope you all have a wonderful October week break. You have all worked so hard I can’t wait to hear about your adventures when we return xx

Maths adventures and lots more!!

Welcome back to our blog!

As this week was Maths week, we made sure to work extra hard to explore various aspects of Numeracy and Maths both in the classroom and outdoors.

In our outdoor area we went on a shape hunt. We made a list of the shapes we might find such as a circle, square, triangle and rectangle.

We explored volume, deciding whether containers were full or empty.

We continue to explore Time, particularly, days of the week, months of the year and seasons. We had a great chat about things that we do throughout the day. We made a list of things we do in the morning, afternoon and at night.

We explored measure, particularly weight and volume. Using various containers of different sizes, we were able to discuss empty and full.

Using a two-pan balance, we were able to estimate how heavy or light lots of different items would be.  We were then able to organise items into heavy or light.

We continue to build our number sense by counting, finding the missing number and exploring numbers before and after.

In Literacy, we continue to explore sounds through lots of practical activities. Each time we learn a new sound, we go on a hunt around our classroom to find items that begin with that sound, for example pencil for ‘p’ or scissors for ‘s’. We always find lots of items.

We did some printing with peppers and paint!

We find words with the initial sound.

Practising letter formation!

For our writing this week, we completed detailed drawings of what we would do as a superhero. The possibilities were endless!

This week for our superhero topic, we explored forces! We know that lots of the toys we play with have different forces. Some can be pushed and some can be pulled. They can also roll, bounce, slide and stretch.

Using some wooden ramps and cars, we quickly learned that the higher we held the ramp, the faster the cars would go. We knew that if the ramp was sitting flat, we would have to give the cars a push with great force for them to move quickly. Lots of collaborative working was going on!

During Circle Time, we focused on Friendship. Using Friendship Terrace we are able to explore some of the things that might happen with our friends which allows us discuss the qualities we look for in a friend. We decided to create a whole class poster to show what we think makes a good friend.  We then completed portraits of our friends!

We finished off our week with a lovely Friday afternoon in the garden!

Well done P1C for another fantastic week x
