Happy Halloween!

Welcome back to our blog! It has been another busy week in P1c!

In Literacy, we continue to develop our phonological awareness as we continue to learn single sounds.

We have been exploring our magnetic letter boards this week, using what we know about sounds to word build CVC words such as cat, man and hop.

When reading these short words, we know to sound them out.

We continue to practise letter formation!

For writing this week, we focused on Halloween. Our writing was all about what we do on Halloween and although this year will be a little different, it seems that the children still have lots to look forward too!

Within Numeracy and Maths, we continue to explore numbers to 10 and beyond.

We have started to explore addition to 10 using loose parts. We worked with a partner to explore addition, giving each other calculations to solve! We had to record the sum and the answer on our addition mat!

We have been exploring time by looking at analogue clocks. We know that an analogue clock is a circle shape and it has numbers 1 to 12 on it. We also know that it has a big hand and a little hand. We made our own analogue clocks and chose which time we wanted it to show.

Sticking to the excitement surrounding Halloween, we have been creating our own potions! We used our amazing imaginations to discuss what we would put in a real potion, we thought about spiders, eyeballs, blood and frogs!

Through drama, we have been acting out the movements of various spooky characters such as zombies, ghosts and witches.

We have even been doing some skeleton dancing!

We made some more Halloween decorations for our classroom.

Using paper plates and tissue paper to make scary pumpkins!

Painting our hand prints to make ghosts!

Even making some Halloween cards for our friends and family.

The children have been so excited about Halloween and love sharing with the class what they are going to dress up as!

At our art area this week we have been exploring Pointillism. We used cotton buds to make little dots which form a picture.

We continue to work collaboratively across our classroom, especially in our construction area! We love to build mansions, castles and jails among many other things.

Have a Happy Halloween from P1C 🙂

Just a reminder that next Friday (6th Nov) is our Spooky Mini Mudder event!

Could you please remember to make sure that the children have appropriate clothing as it will be very muddy and messy.

Copies of the sponsorship form are available on our Google Classroom 🙂

Things are getting spooky in P1C!

We have had a great first week of Term 2, we have been so busy!

We were so excited to share with our friends what we got up to during the October week. We decided to record this in our special books, drawing pictures to show our friends what we did.

In our outdoor area, we were doing lots of problem solving. We created a tunnel using various pipes and tubes of different sizes. We noticed that water was leaking out of one of the pipes so we realised that by lifting them higher, the water would continue to stream through! It required lots of team work!

We continue to engage in imaginative play in our outdoor area. This week we created our own smoothie machine with water and paint!

Exploring water in a different way, some of us were measuring how long the stream of water was by estimating how many steps it would take us to walk to the end.

In Numeracy and Maths this week, we have been focusing on number. We practise our counting to consolidate our knowledge of numbers to 10 and beyond.

We have been exploring one more and one less than, moving up and down the number line.

Number formation is so important, this is something we practise every day. We do this using whiteboards and pens, play-doh and also loose parts!

To show what we know about numbers we worked with a partner to create number posters. This encouraged lots of discussions around how we can make numbers in different ways and how they can be represented in different ways too!

Throughout Literacy, we continue to read lots of stories, making predictions about what we think is going to happen. We then demonstrate our understanding of the story be sequencing the events.

We continue to explore sounds, listening for them in words and practising letter formation.

Finding words with the same initial sound.

Finding sounds in stories and books!

In Health and Wellbeing, we explored another story from Friendship terrace. This week it was all about the importance of sharing. We shared with our class lots of examples of times we have shared with someone or someone has shared with us. It was so lovely to hear all of these stories!

We have been getting in to the spirit of Halloween and we have even started to decorate our role-play area to turn it into a Haunted House! We had a special treat on Wednesday when we made some delicious Halloween themed rice crispy cakes which were delicious. We followed the recipe really carefully, making sure they would be tasty to eat.

Fantastic work P1C! Well done for another great week 🙂 x

Sounds, Stories, Shapes and Measuring!

Hello! We have had a fantastic week of learning in P1c.

In Numeracy and Maths, we have been exploring data. We know that data is really just information. We have been gathering information and sharing our results using tally marks and bar charts.

We know that it helps us if we sort the data first. Here we are sorting our cubes by colour!

We continue to build our number knowledge. Here we are working together to sequence numbers.

This week, we have been measure detectives! We worked hard to find items in our classroom that were longer than our hands, shorter than our feet and lots more!

We were able to sort ourselves in order of height!

We are working hard to consolidate our knowledge of 2D Shape. We can name shapes, sort them and make them! We have also been discussing the properties of each shape.

Within Literacy, we continue to learn new sounds. Through games such as ‘I Spy’, we are able to find items with the same initial sound. We love exploring different activities related to each sound.

Here we are making ‘c’ with cornflakes!

We know that letter formation is so important and so we make sure to practice this each day.

We search for sounds in stories!

Through helicopter stories, we love telling our own imaginative stories! We have so much fun choosing who will play the characters in our story.

To finish off our superhero topic, we have been exploring people who help us. We made a list of all of the people who help us and what they do for us.

For Art this week, we focused on Autumn. We went on a hunt around the playground to find lots of leaves. There were so many great discussions about the different colours, sizes and shapes. We used the leaves that we found to create our very own Autumn wreaths!

In our Outdoor area this week, we worked collaboratively to create a tunnel for the water. We really had to use our problem solving skills to stop the water from leaking out of any of the tubes.

We were enjoying the sun!

We continue to explore all of the classroom areas, working collaboratively with our friends.

Sometimes, we like to finish off a busy day with some dancing!! Here we are showing off our best dance moves.

Well done P1c!! I hope you all have a wonderful October week break. You have all worked so hard I can’t wait to hear about your adventures when we return xx

Maths adventures and lots more!!

Welcome back to our blog!

As this week was Maths week, we made sure to work extra hard to explore various aspects of Numeracy and Maths both in the classroom and outdoors.

In our outdoor area we went on a shape hunt. We made a list of the shapes we might find such as a circle, square, triangle and rectangle.

We explored volume, deciding whether containers were full or empty.

We continue to explore Time, particularly, days of the week, months of the year and seasons. We had a great chat about things that we do throughout the day. We made a list of things we do in the morning, afternoon and at night.

We explored measure, particularly weight and volume. Using various containers of different sizes, we were able to discuss empty and full.

Using a two-pan balance, we were able to estimate how heavy or light lots of different items would be.  We were then able to organise items into heavy or light.

We continue to build our number sense by counting, finding the missing number and exploring numbers before and after.

In Literacy, we continue to explore sounds through lots of practical activities. Each time we learn a new sound, we go on a hunt around our classroom to find items that begin with that sound, for example pencil for ‘p’ or scissors for ‘s’. We always find lots of items.

We did some printing with peppers and paint!

We find words with the initial sound.

Practising letter formation!

For our writing this week, we completed detailed drawings of what we would do as a superhero. The possibilities were endless!

This week for our superhero topic, we explored forces! We know that lots of the toys we play with have different forces. Some can be pushed and some can be pulled. They can also roll, bounce, slide and stretch.

Using some wooden ramps and cars, we quickly learned that the higher we held the ramp, the faster the cars would go. We knew that if the ramp was sitting flat, we would have to give the cars a push with great force for them to move quickly. Lots of collaborative working was going on!

During Circle Time, we focused on Friendship. Using Friendship Terrace we are able to explore some of the things that might happen with our friends which allows us discuss the qualities we look for in a friend. We decided to create a whole class poster to show what we think makes a good friend.  We then completed portraits of our friends!

We finished off our week with a lovely Friday afternoon in the garden!

Well done P1C for another fantastic week x
