P1c are Superheroes!

Another busy week in Primary 1C. Although this has been a short week, it hasn’t stopped the children from having lots of learning adventures!

In Numeracy and Maths this week we have been learning about estimating. We know that when we estimate we are trying our best to make a really good guess. We created our very own estimation station to help us practise this. Everyday, Miss Wallace changes how many marbles are in the jar. We record our estimates on the board and then count the marbles out to see who had the closest guess.

We have been exploring money! We know that we use money to buy things. We had lots of fun exploring all of the different coins.

We continue to consolidate our knowledge of number. We have been counting, estimating and exploring numbers one more and one less.

In Literacy, we have started to explore sounds. We know all about ‘s’ and ‘a’. We created a huge list with all of the words we know that start with those sounds. We had snake, star, snail, sun and lots more! We then had astronaut, apple, ant and amazing!

We continue to write through detailed pictures. We have been having lots of discussions around Autumn and what happens during this season so we decided that Autumn would be our focus for writing.

We have been busy exploring materials this week. We used the story of The Three Little Pigs to explore different materials to find out which one would be the best for their house. We knew that something like brick or concrete would be the best one to use!

For our superhero topic this week, we explored our super senses. We know all about sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing. We explored different stations which helped us to understand each of our senses and how we use them everyday.

In our garden area, we love working together. Here we are working together to fix the chute. We wanted to make sure that no one went on it so we covered it in sand to let everyone know it was out of use.

We love acting out our helicopter stories outside!

We also took a trip to our activity trail. It was so much fun! The children were encouraging one another to have a go at any parts they found tricky, particularly the climbing wall. “You can do it!”, “Don’t worry I will help you”, “Just copy what I am doing” were just some of the encouraging things that the children were saying to help their friends.

Well done P1c for another fantastic week. I am so proud of you all. You have all worked so hard these past few weeks and I hope you have a great September weekend 🙂

Working together in P1c!

Welcome back to our blog 🙂 We hope you enjoy finding out a little bit more about what we have been up to this week in P1c.

We have been exploring Dance! We have been moving our bodies in different ways and changing how we move according to the music.

We also applied what we know about patterns to our  warm up by working together to create human patterns.

In Numeracy and Maths we continue to consolidate our knowledge of number.

Here we are working together to order numbers correctly!

We have also been exploring positional language this week. We had lots of fun programming the Bee-Bots to move in certain ways. We also worked with a partner to give them clear instructions to follow using words such as above, below, behind!

Then, using what we know about positional language, we created an obstacle course in our outdoor area! We had to give our friends careful instructions of what to do.

We continue to revise our knowledge of 2D shape. We went on a shape hunt around the classroom and we managed to find all of the shapes that were hidden. We also made shape pizzas and did some shape sorting.

We have also been very busy doing lots of measuring. We have been discussing height and weight and have been using loose parts to measure various items.

In Literacy we continue to explore a range of activities which help us with our phonological awareness.

We created rhyming word posters.

We used play-doh to show the number of syllables in a range of different words.

In writing this week, we created detailed drawings to show what we do when we are with our friends. I am so impressed by how well the children can tell a story through their pictures. We all have such great ideas!

We started our new topic which is all about Superheroes!! The children are so excited and have lots of great ideas and questions.  We started off by discussing what super powers we would have, some of us wanted to be invisible, some of us wanted to have super speed and others wished that their super power would be to fly!

We then did some drama through our helicopter stories. We used our imaginations to create a superhero story which we then acted out together. The children had so much fun!!

We continue to work well together in our classroom areas.

At our water area we have been investigating whether items will float or sink. This has encouraged great discussions around materials and also measure as we have been discussing the weight of different items.

Well done P1c for another great week xx

Super Learning in P1c!

During Literacy, we continue to improve our phonological awareness by playing listening games and exploring rhyme and syllables. We have lots of fun finding rhyming words in our stories and clapping out the syllables in words.

Here are some examples of rhyming words …

Erin – rat and hat

Maxwell – bed and head

James – log and frog

In Numeracy  & Maths we continue to explore our numbers to 10 through lots of fun games. We are working on counting on and back from different numbers, identifying the missing number and number formation.  This week we have also had a look at patterns, 2D shape and Time, particularly exploring the seasons.

Mohammad – Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter are the seasons.

In our outdoor space we have been engaging in lots of imaginative play! We have been putting people under a magic spell, creating our own potions as well as exploring the sand and water areas.

We are coming to the end of our Castles Topic which has been great fun. We have explored the features and designs of various castles, created our own castles in our block area and we also used some recycled materials to build them too. We created our own crowns and designed our own shields to prepare us for battle!

I hoped you have enjoyed this insight in to learning in Primary 1c. Check our blog again next week to find out about more of our adventures!

Can I ask that any profiles that are still at home are returned to school next week. We are missing just a few and the children are eager to start filling up some of the pages in their special book 🙂

Our first blog post!

Hi everyone and welcome to our very first blog post.

I am so proud of all of the children and how well they have settled in to Primary 1. It has been wonderful watching them become familiar with our routines, making new friends and exploring all of our classroom areas.

I understand that this school year must be very different for parents but I hope that through the SWAY which was recently posted and through our updates on the class blog you will be able to see all of the wonderful experiences that the children are having at school.

I am also aware that it is difficult for us to chat at the end of the school day so if you have any concerns or questions you can contact me through the school email 🙂

Here is a little video which has captured just a few of the amazing moments we have had so far.
