December in P1

What a busy wee month it has been in Primary 1.  Here are some pictures to show you what we have been up to…

We have had lots of fun in the garden making yummy hot chocolate recipes, testing different heights for ramps for the cars and making zoos and swamps for the animals we have been learning about to play and live in.

We have been following and giving directions using Bee-Bot and a beebot app.

Our building designs have reached new levels with rooms, ramps and even labels.

We’ve shared stories by the fire.

We planned, practised and performed our nativity and oh what fun we had whilst singing, acting and dancing.

We have been super busy crafting, completing challenges, writing, junk modelling and playing with our friends.

We threw a party in for good measure and a special visitor even stopped by. How lucky are we?

We finished our super busy month with a relaxing movie morning watching The Grinch, all snug as bugs.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and hope you all have a lovely holiday and well deserved rest.

love Mrs Denholm xx

Singing practice

Today we met together in the hall with the other P1 classes and practised singing our nativity songs. It was lovely to hear such beautiful voices and see some interesting dance moves 🙂

Developing number sense

This week we have been developing our understanding of addition using our fingers to help us add numbers together accurately. We have tried to record our own calculations with a plus symbol and equals sign. We have played games to help us recognise numbers without counting (subitising) and have used lots of different language to talk about numbers.

Drama

We have been bringing our own stories to life through drama. There has been lots of hilarity as the children take on the roles of different characters and think about how they can use their body and voice to act it out to the class.

Trip to the library

We were very lucky to be invited up to Mearns library to receive a bag of books to enjoy at home. The class did very well walking safely up to the library and enjoyed listening to some stories together. Here are a couple of pics from the trip.

Halves and equal sharing

This week we have been looking at halves carefully exploring shapes that have been split into two equal parts.  We were able to identify shapes that did and did not show halves, sort them accordingly and use our knowledge of equal parts in our play with the play dough.

All about the line…

We have been busy learning about the element of line. We thought carefully about all of the different lines you can get and then went outside to represent these lines with our bodies. Here you can see lots of lovely straight body shapes, wavy arms and zig zag motions.

Next we used chalk to draw these lines on the playground for our friends to walk on. Some of our lines were super long!

We then painted some of the lines we had learned about before drawing our own self portraits. Mrs Denholm encouraged us all to look closely in the mirror to help with our drawings which prompted lots and lots of discussion.

Have a great weekend!

Developing the garden

The learning continued outdoors despite the weather, making the most of exploring our garden area. The children have lots of ideas of how they can develop the space to meet their interests and we have a list of what we would like to work on together. Here are some photos of our time outdoors this week.

Learning outdoors

Last week we took lots of our learning outdoors in our garden and woodland area. We made repeating patterns with natural resources, yummy recipes in the mud kitchen, syllable jumps, vehicles and houses out of loose parts and searched for mini beasts. It was lots of fun and was great to get out and enjoy the good weather. Here are some snaps of the fun…
