Learning outdoors

Last week we took lots of our learning outdoors in our garden and woodland area. We made repeating patterns with natural resources, yummy recipes in the mud kitchen, syllable jumps, vehicles and houses out of loose parts and searched for mini beasts. It was lots of fun and was great to get out and enjoy the good weather. Here are some snaps of the fun…

Jack and the beanstalk

We have had lots of fun exploring our story of the week, Jack and the Beanstalk, which we have used to explore some new vocabulary (sparkle words) including ravenous, clambering and shocked.

We used the story as a stimulus for drawing club and this week introduced a magic button in our pictures which if pressed, enabled something magical or unusual to happen. There were lots of traps, secret weapons and imaginative ideas shared if somebody dared to press their magic button.

After looking at some different pictures of castles and talking about the design of them we built some of our own in our play.

Have a great weekend!

Shape hunt

This week we went on a shape hunt outdoors to see what 2D and 3D shapes we could find. Mrs Denholm was very impressed at how many we spotted and that we remembered the names for each of them. If you are out and about I wonder if you could spot any more…

Have a great weekend!

Shape

This week we have been developing our understanding of 2D and 3D shapes. We have discussed the properties of a cone, cube, cuboid, cylinder and sphere and enjoyed using these in some of our building designs. We have recapped the names of common 2D shapes including a circle, square, rectangle and triangle and have played a variety of games to sort and match them. We found the shape monsters made a funny noise when they ate the right shape.

Enjoy your weekend! See you all next week.
