Story World Words, Blending, Bar Charts and so much more! 🌟

This week we have had a big push on being able to read and write our Story World words! Although they are tricky, with constant practise we will be able to read and write them correctly.

We have been practising to use our story world words in sentences too. We are remembering to use a capital letter, finger spaces and full stops!

We have been practising to sequence a sentence too! However, we have to read the sentence to make sure it makes sense!

We were working as a team to sort the pictures to the correct word!

We went on an alphabet hunt too and tried to find an object to match all the sounds!

In Maths, we have been learning about Number Bonds. Number bonds is where we recall number facts for a number. For example the number bonds for 5 are 0+5, 5+0, 4+1 etc…

We have been using cubes and numicon to show different ways to make a number bond!

Investigating objects across the classroom is so much fun! We were exploring different items and determined which object was heavier, lighter or equal in weight!

We have been revisiting bar charts and pictograms! We were asking our friends what their favourite colour was.

We also made a bar chart for our favourite colours and favourite flavours of ice cream!

After, we discussed which options were most popular, least popular or equal! We remember a bar chart to look like bars of chocolate!

We also analysed information from using tally marks!

In class, we have been learning how to skip count in 2’s – 0,2,4,6,8…!

We made a building, however, you will notice we used stones which count up in 2’s too! This was a number machine on our building!

We love using play dough in class to be creative! We use play dough to form letters, numbers or make pictures and stories. It is super for our fine motor skills!

We created a display of instructions and pictures to enable us to make play dough by ourselves without Miss Amin!

Everyday this week, we have enjoyed making play dough as a team!

Sticking with our topic of cars, we made a new and trickier target board!

We have also learnt about collage within Art and used this technique to make traffic lights!

Whilst Outdoors, we turned this pole into a puppet pole! We wrapped him up because he was cold, and made stories around him! We are yet to name him!

‘The cold never bothered us anyways’! Fun fun fun as we try and aim ourselves with the water!

Sticking with water, we noticed the windows were dirty so began to clean them! This helped our gross motor skills as we were holding heavy buckets of water!

WOW! Our blog is jam packed full of lots of learning this week! I am sure your Parents and Carers will be so proud of you!

Have a wonderful weekend boys and girls!xxx

Book Bug and Road Safety Week!

It has been another eventful week in school!

We have been learning about Road Safety week! This linked extremely well within our topic of ‘Cars’ too!

We were discussing and learning about different road signs there are. We went on a walk around our school environment and observed which road signs we could recognise!

We are reading non-fiction books!

As a team, we had to determine safe and unsafe scenarios within the pictures and discuss the reasoning for our decision.

We also sorted different images under the correct categories of safe and unsafe.

STOP! LOOK! LISTEN!

Before crossing the road we know this is the protocol we should be doing to ensure we are keeping ourselves and others safe.

We made some posters about STOP! LOOK! LISTEN!

BOOK BUG WEEK!

We love reading books in class! Using our Book Bug books, we have been retelling the stories using movement, actions and voice!

We have been drawing and writing about our favourite part! Lastly, we made puppets so we can retell stories with our friends in our class Library!

In the construction area, we were building a tower that could protect the sheep from Brenda the Sheep!

We were also drawing and writing stories whilst being outdoors too!

To end this wonderful week of events, we spent our Friday afternoon building reading dens! We had to work as a team with limited resources to build a den that was stable and hold at least four of us!

We enjoyed telling each other stories or some of us made up our own stories. Some were super scary!

The conversations in our dens were amazing as we retold stories, extended our vocabulary and listened to one another and took turns whilst sharing stories!

A little reminder that on Monday please can everybody return their reading books! On Tuesday you will receive a new reading book. How exciting!

Have a wonderful weekend!xxx

Remembrance Day, Diwali and so much more!

As it was Remembrance Day on Wednesday, we learnt about the importance and significance of Remembrance Day. Also, we learnt about why Poppy’s are used as a symbol.

On Wednesday we engaged in the 2 minute silence which was wonderful to reflect on how lucky we are and to think about all the heroes that were in the war.

It has been a busy week for events! This weekend is also Diwali! We learnt about Diwali and the traditions of how people celebrate, what they wear and what they eat.

We made henna patterns and showcased our artistic skills! We kept giving each other a high five with our new third hand!

We have been exploring the Rangoli pattern too!

Next week will be the first week we will be taking our reading books home to read with our homework helpers! We will also be introduced to Story World words which will help us learn sight words such as the, can and play. These words will appear in our reading books.

We continue to practise to stretch out our sounds in words! We have to make sure we are able to hear the first, middle and last sound in words such as cat, dog and leg.

We have chosen our new context and topic for learning to be all about Cars.

We have been exploring the differences of cars from the past and present.

‘Old cars have no seat belts, one chair and use steam to drive.’

‘Old cars had no windows or a roof! Cars now use petrol to drive.’

‘New cars are safer and more people can sit in them.’

For our construction area, we made a large car to play with!

As you can tell, we are super excited to have fresh sand delivered to our sand pit!

‘We are making potions and using leaves to make it change colour.’

Although it is freezing to everyone else, we have been having fun splashing in the puddles. We worked as a team to try and solve how we can travel the water from the beginning of the water pipe all the way to the large tyre and to the welly shed!

The smiling faces shows just how much fun we have outdoors regardless of the weather!

On our outdoor days, it is great to have a spare top or trousers in the bag just in case we do get wet or extra muddy!

It was lovely talking to everyone during Parents  Evening this week, you all had a wonderful and glowing report. I am sure your Mummies and Daddies are so proud of you just like I am with you all!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend everyone! See you on Monday!xxx

Spooky Mini Mudders, Fireworks and Baking!

Today has been a wonderful day because we finally got to experience the AMAZING MINI MUDDERS!

We were in our element as we went down mud slides, trailed through the mud, jumped through tyres and got sprayed by water pistols! Here are loads of pictures so you can see just how much fun we had! Thank you to everyone who made a donation! It is greatly appreciated :)!

As it was Bonfire Night last night, we spoke about why the 5th of November is significant and learnt about Guys Fawkes.

Art is where we let our creativity be free! We did just that as we made shapes, fireworks and pictures using paint in different ways!

We were trying to replicate the noises fireworks makes using instruments. We explored instruments we had never heard of and enjoyed making different sounds.

We were printing pictures and made fireworks using tubes!

To also celebrate Bonfire Night, we made our own icing sugar to decorate chocolate cupcakes. We worked in pairs to do this. We learnt how to use a sieve correctly which required hand-eye co-ordination and learnt how to make thick and glossy icing sugar!

At the end, we also helped Miss Amin wash and dry all the dishes. Primary 1B are fantastic helpers!

Another amazing week of learning we have had Primary 1B. Well done for always working hard and for always trying your best.

I hope you enjoy looking throughout your child’s work tonight! They are so excited to show you and tell you all about their learning. You can keep all the worksheets at home to treasure. However, please return the folder alongside the writing jotter and the special book on Monday!

Time to have a relaxed weekend after such a busy week!

See you on Monday :)!xxx

Our First Visit to Woodland in Primary One!

Can you tell we had the best time in Woodland?

The more mud we have splattered on us (including our faces), means the more fun we had!

We were climbing and reaching heights we didn’t think was possible!

We explored different sizes of branches and found this humongous branch! We used it to balance on in the mud.

We made a mud slide!

At the end, we washed our hands, clothes and wellies. Thank  you to everyone for giving our wellies a good wash at home and for returning them back to school!

We cannot wait for Mini Mudders tomorrow!!

As we have nearly reached the end of learning our sounds, we are now learning how to blend words like cat, dog and mop.

We are trying to quickly find an initial sound when Miss Amin shouts it!

We continue to practise our letter formation to ensure we are writing our letters correctly.

To show we can read a word, we have to confer with our friends to make sure it is correct.

In Maths, we also continue to work on our number formation!

We have been learning how to solve questions which include ‘more than’ or ‘less then’.

We have became familiar with our school routine! We have began learning about time (o’clock) and can recognise certain times throughout the day. For example at 3 o’clock we begin to get ready for home time.

We made our own clocks!

We have been using concrete materials to explore addition. We are super stars at being able to add amounts to 5 mentally!

We will also show you another blog tomorrow so you can see our Mini Mudders extravaganza and see all the learning we have been exploring  focused on Bonfire Night.

Get loads of rest tonight and be prepared for an exciting day tomorrow!
