Fun in the sun

This week we took advantage of the good weather and took our play outside to the activity trail where the children showed off how good their balancing had become. We had lots of fun and helped each other to make it to the end of the trail.

Sports day

Sports day was a great success this year! The children were buzzing with excitement and all did so well across all of the activities. It was lovely to see them all smiling and having fun with their classmates. Here are some pics that were snapped on the day…

Thank you for all coming along and cheering them on.
Have a lovely weekend!

Looking at abstract art in p1

This week the children have been learning about the work of Kandinsky, a painter famous for his abstract art. We spoke about his use of colour, warm and cool and the shapes used within the art. We then had a go at creating our own pieces of art.

We have had lots of fun in gymnastics over the last couple of weeks developing control over our bodies and the space around us. We have had to think creatively how to travel, jump off apparatus into a balance and then roll to the end of the mats. We have had the opportunity to demonstrate our ideas in front of the class and listened carefully to feedback on how to develop some next steps.

Problem Solving

We have been working hard to develop our problem solving skills this week in Numeracy and Maths. We worked in small groups to identify what the problem was asking and what strategies we could use to find the answers. We selected materials that would help us and took turns to record and report back our findings. We are looking forward to a new problem next week.

Enjoy the long weekend.

Eid Celebration Day

We have had a lovely day learning more about Eid Al-Fitr. Our day began preparing and baking chocolate chip cookies following Mrs Amin’s recipe. We worked together in small groups to measure out the ingredients and separate the mixture to create our cookies. The smell floating through the school as they were baking was delicious.

We were invited to have some henna designs on our hands which were so beautiful and unique. The children were delighted with them.

We tried learning some new dance moves together which was lots of fun, but very fast!

We learnt about different places of worship and what happens in a Mosque. We then tried to build some Mosques using photographs in the block area. We realised all of the buildings were very grand and had lots of interesting details on them.

Have a lovely weekend. See you all next week.

A trip to the shop…

We had a wonderful sunny day to walk to the Co-op to deepen our understanding of money and the services of a local business. The children worked well together in their groups to explore and complete some challenges encouraging them to look at the prices of items. They were able to spot and talk about their favourite foods and plan a dinner they would like to enjoy. We finished our experience by buying some ingredients to make play dough in the classroom. We enjoyed a little treat in the sun to give us some energy to manage the big walk back. Thank you to our lovely helpers who made the experience much easier to manage. Here is a wee snapshot of our trip.

Fabulous Fruit Salad

This week we have been learning about different types of fruit and have shared what we like and dislike with each other. We recognise the importance of eating fruit as part of a healthy diet and enjoyed preparing our own fruit salads developing our chopping, peeling and slicing skills.

Our Learning Continued with Mrs Dickie

After we had our visit from Rennie, The Dams to Darnley Ranger we carried out some drawing and writing about some facts that we had learned.

We then carried out some observational drawings on birds trying to really focus on the different shapes and colours that we could see and add as much detail as we could.

We used IPADs to enhance our learning by using google to search for information about birds. The children enjoyed talking about different images they could find.

Over the last couple of weeks we have learned more about different ways we can help look after the environment to help make a better world.

The children thoroughly enjoyed doing some litter picking down at Woodland!

After the Easter holidays, we will continue to learn more about sustainability together!

Junk Modelling

This week the class have continued to develop their creativity and problem solving skills as they have used junk materials to build with. The children have worked independently on their own designs and as part of a small group to create magic potion pots, a BFF rocket and a shield to name a few. If you have any junk materials at home, please send them in as there are hours of fun to be had with them.

This week is Neurodiversity week at Crookfur. We have read some stories and chatted about similarities and differences within our class. We have also recognised that we all have different superpowers, including being brave, kind and imaginative. We met with our buddies to carry out an activity with them. They helped us recognise and draw our superpowers before sounding out words to write in thank you cards to our everyday superheroes in our lives.

Have a great weekend!
