Week beg 20th June 2023

And so we have come to the end of our P1 journey. The children are all exhausted and ready for their holidays (as are the teachers), we have met our new teachers and seen our new classrooms and we are ready to move onto P2.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you so much for trusting me with the first year of your child’s school journey. It has been a fabulous year and I am so proud of each and every one of them.

Thank you for all of the kind words and generous gifts. I really appreciate them.

Transition to P1 from Nursery started with The Very Hungry Caterpillar when we created our class caterpillar which has been on our window all year.  We have ended the year by creating our Mini Me Butterflies and they definitely show how we have developed and grown throughout this year.

I hope everyone has a fabulous summer.

Week beg 5th June

This week in P1a we have been developing our subitising skills using block play.

We looked for groups in the block pictures which would then help us to count the number of blocks we would need to recreate the patterns.

Miss Muir looked after us so well on Tuesday morning and then we enjoyed the P7 show in the afternoon and later in the week Mrs Jamieson came in for Circle Time and to help us with our writing.

We have finished our Planet Fact Files and these will come home so that we can share them with our families (but first, we are going to share them with our P3 friends).

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Sport’s Week 2023

What a fantastic week we have had!  Thank you so much to E’s Mum for coming in on Monday to start our sport’s week with Athletics.

We learned so many new skills and it was really fortunate that we got to practise our egg and spoon skills again before Friday!

On Wednesday we had Gymnastics and the coach was very impressed with our discipline and our skills.

And we had Karate in the classroom.

On Thursday we were dancing twice, once in class and later in the MUGA at lunchtime. We had Muay Thai coaching and Rachel Tytler came in to tell us all about her Commonwealth Bronze medal and her sport, Judo.

The today was Sport’s Day – thank you so much to everyone who managed along to support us. We had a fabulous time.

Well done to everyone who took part in the Parent’s Races. We were very proud of our class winners in the House Races.

We have had a really creative couple of weeks in P1a. Today we used sticky back plastic to create nature pictures. It was really tricky to stick the flowers without touching the sticky back plastic (which we saved from landfill).

In Maths we have been learning about position and direction and we combined this with our Social Studies learning about our environment by creating local area maps and navigating around them using the Bee Bots.

We used our angle finders to identify right angles in the classroom environment and in 2D shapes.

We tidied the area at our classroom door and planted out our beans.

We have had so much fun with Mr Eadie and his drama lessons.

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great long weekend and that the weather stays as lovely as it was today.

Week beg 8th May

It has been a really quick week in p1a. We have been so engaged with our Space Topic. This week we wrote about Saturn and some of the children have been busy writing their own books at home and in the creative and writing areas. We now have a box of Space jigsaws in the classroom, some of them are really challenging, but we have persevered and completed them all.

In maths, we have been developing our problem solving skills through a series of activities. We have had to listen carefully and think logically.

It was really tricky at times, but when we cracked it, we were so proud of ourselves.

In literacy, we continue to challenge ourselves sounding out unfamiliar words and reading increasingly challenging books.

Outdoors this week, we took advantage of the lovely weather.

Some of us have been reading a book about a clapping dance, so we created our own clapping dances.

We look forward to welcoming our grown ups to the open days next week. Here are a few more pictures from this week.

Week beg 1st May 2023

This week, our class book has been The King’s Pants, so we took our giant pants to show at our assembly. We all designed a pair of pants for the new king to wear for his Coronation and then we worked together to paint our designs on a giant pair of pants!

We have been talking about things that will change after the Coronation and went to look at the post box outside of the school to see the ER11 insignia that will be different on any new post boxes.

In literacy, we have been working on our blending skills, reading unfamiliar words and then recording us saying them in the talking tins.

In Maths we have been learning about patterns in numbers and creating complex patterns.

In PE we have been developing our team listening skills and have started to practise our running skills for sport’s day.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend – remember to do something kind for others on Monday!

Eid Celebration – Friday 28th April

We have had so much fun at our Eid Celebration today. We started that day dipping strawberries and dates in chocolate.

Then we spent time dressing bears and reading multi lingual books.

Some of us had our hands painted with Henna.

Then this afternoon we completed some Eid crafts.

Thank you so much to all of the parents who came along to help with our celebrations today – I really appreciate all of your help.

Week Beg 17th April 2023

We’ve had a really busy start to the new term!

We have been learning about Ramadan and Eid this week in RME. It was lovely to hear the children who celebrate sharing with their classmates and to see how excited they were. We are all now really excited about our Whole School Eid Celebration next Friday.

In Maths this week we have been investigating 3D Shapes, we have sorted them, experimented to see if they roll, stack and slide, found them in our environment and compared them with 2D shapes.

Our Outdoor Learning task this week was to look at the clouds and then work out which type they were using the cloud sorting rings – we had wall to wall blue skies and very few clouds!

We can try again once our weather returns to normal!

We decided to make the most of the sunny weather and investigate shadows.

To mark Earth Day we learned about different ways to look after the planet and we made seeds bombs.

Here are a few more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and look forward to another busy week.

Week Beginning 27th March 2023

This week, we decided that as Tod the Tadpole had grown legs and started to hop around the tank, we would return him home to where we collected the frogspawn. With the help of Mrs Agnew and Mrs Howie, the whole class were able to walk across to Capel Burn.

We were a bit sad to say goodbye to Tod, he has been part of our class for a long time now, but we know he’ll be much happier in the pond with his friends and we even spotted more frogspawn so he will have lots of other tadpoles to keep him company soon.

We have had such a busy week, with the House Spirit Afternoon, the House Reward Afternoon and all of our Rights Respecting Week activities.

We managed to fit in some Science time though as we investigated sound waves using Blob Opera

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a fabulous break and look forward to hearing all the news once we are back.

Week Beginning 20th March

This week, we have been observing Todd our Tadpole as he grows. We’ve moved him out of his vase and put him into a tray with more stones so that he has more places to hide when he needs peace and quiet.

We have been using our natural loose parts to develop our story telling skills. We have even made a book of our Stone Stories.

We worked together outdoors to create a collaborative story.

Mrs Howie has been helping us to develop our Role Play area. The dress up accessories have helped us to develop characterisation skills.

In Numeracy, we have been ordering numbers and identifying numbers using clues.

This week we were learning about Nebulae and we created our own using pastels.

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
