Week Beg 25th October

This week we marked Diwali when some of our classmates were able to tell us how they celebrated with their families at home. We made rangoli patterns in the playground with chalk to welcome our parents at the end of the school day.

We had Diwali activities in our creative area.

We racaped our number learning from before the holidays. Working with the number balls to find the numbers before and after.

In literacy, we learned about the sounds l,f and b and we are now able to use all of our sounds to blend and segment words.

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend – please remember to look through the learning folder, complete the questionnaire and return the folder on Monday – I have also explained to the children that I would like them to all start bringing their homework jotter in the plastic bag – we have some lovely new reading books that we will start sending home soon, and it’s really important that we look after them well, so rather than them being put into school bags, I’m hoping that placing them in the plastic bags will help keep them in good condition.

Thanks

Week beg 10th Oct

This week in P1a we have been busy developing our Data Handling Skills – we have conducted two whole class surveys – we worked together to complete a hair colour survey, recording the information on the board using tally marks and then putting the information into a table, we then worked individually to gather information about everyone’s favourite colour.

We have been developing our mental maths skills, identifying the numbers before and after to 30, skip counting in 2’s and 5’s and counting across the decades.

Our sounds this week were g,o and u. We have been practising our blending and segmenting skills, building words and taking them apart, now that we have so many sounds to work with.

Our Story of the Week was One Button Benny and we used the metal loose parts to create our own versions of Benny, we then wrote about Benny in our Writing Jotters.

Here are some pictures from our Pop In and Play, it was so lovely to be able to share our classroom space with you all.

Here are a few more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a fabulous October Break – look forward to hearing all about everyone’s adventures when we return on Tuesday the 25th of October.

Week Beginning 3rd October

This week in p1a started with a visit from Mrs McGuigan and Miss Doig, the children were so excited to tell them about their learning.

There was also great excitement when we started using our Target Board. When the children are given a task, they are now able to remove their “wee man” to show that they have completed it.

In literacy, we have completed the second set of Jolly Phonics sounds r, m and d. The children have been practising writing their sounds and recognising them in texts.

We have been using the talking tins to help with recognising the sounds.

And we have completed lots of sound related activities.

We have been writing in our new writing jotters, this week we designed robots and then named them.

In Numeracy and Maths this week, we have been working with numbers to 30, starting to learn about basic addition skills and working on our Data Handling skills.

Mr Eadie has been teaching us about colour blending.

Here are some more pictures of this week’s learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and look forward to sharing our learning with those of you who can manage along on Tuesday for Pop in and Play.
