Week beginning 26th Sept

This week we have been really busy developing our maths skills outdoors. We watched a live lesson on symmetry and then made a SymmeTREE. We also collected items from the woodland area and after lots of discussion, sorted them using a range of criteria.

We have also been investigating pattern.

In our number work, we have been ordering numbers and finding the number before and after.

We have learned another 3 new sounds – c/k, e and h and we have been consolidating our previous sounds with lots of activities.

In Art, we linked our Bridge topic with the art of Claude Monet and produced these lovely bridge pictures.

We went to the Adventure Trail and used our gross motor skills.

And we enjoyed exploring the woodland area, seeing how the woodland is changing with the seasons.

We undertook a STEM challenge to build a bridge between tables that would be stable enough to drive the BeeBots across. After a lot of trial and error and a few frayed tempers, the BeeBots made it safely across to the other side.

Here are some more pictures of our learning.

I hope everyone has a great weekend and look forward to another week of learning.

Week beg 12th Sept 22

This week we had our first Woodland Learning Session. We started by “Going on a Bear Hunt” it was such a shame that the council had just cut all of the swishy, swishy grass, but we still managed to have an adventure in the forest!

Some of our P5 friends joined us and found lots of worms for us to investigate then we spent time exploring the woodland area.

In PE, we continue to work on Possession Skills and we were working in teams.

There was so much excitement in class when we started learning our sounds. So far we have learned s, a, t. We learned the Jolly Phonics songs, built words with our sounds and practised forming and identifying our sounds using a variety of activities.

We continued with our bridge topic and worked collaboratively to create bridges using a range of classroom construction materials.

Here are some more pictures of this weeks learning. I hope everyone has a good weekend and look forward to welcoming the children back on Tuesday.

Week Beginning 5th Sept

Thank you so much to everyone who made it along to our Meet The Teacher Evening.  It was so lovely to be able to show you where your child spends their time every school day.

This week in literacy, we finished our Helicopter Stories and then revisited them to illustrate them and create our own book for our library. The children are enjoying sharing their stories with their classmates.

We have also been working on Rhyme Awareness and Detection reading lots of rhyming stories and spotting the rhyming words.

In Numeracy and Maths, we completed our number zoo stories to ten and then practised our number formation. We have been sorting numbers into number lines and finding the missing number.

Our first beyond number concept of the year has been shape. We went on a shape hunt around the classroom and we sorted shapes in the tuff spot. We have also been investigating shapes outdoors.

In PE, we continue to work on our ball handling skills and developing our team working skills.

In our construction area we are beginning to develop fabulous building skills – and negotiation skills! Look at all of the detail we are now adding to our buildings.

Here are a few more pictures of our learning this week.

Week beginning 29th August

We have had another great week of settling in to Primary One.  We have had great fun creating and acting out our Helicopter Stories.

We continued learning about syllables and there was great excitement when the children realised that if you turn the visualiser camera round, they can see themselves.

We practised hopping our Word Boundaries.

In Numeracy we have been reading the Number Stories and we have started completing pages in our number workbooks.

Outdoors we began to plan our growing area at our classroom door – the children had some great ideas for developing the area. We harvested the rest of last year’s potato crop and then played with the contents of the potato sack!

We added water to the big sand pit and then tried to contain it in the same area.

We enjoyed playing together in the garden.

And then we all worked together to tidy everything away.

Here are some more pictures of this week’s fun.

Have a great weekend.
