It is Snowing!

Primary One had experienced the first snowfall together outdoors with their peers this year! They loved crunching through the snow, attempting to make a snowman that wouldn’t fall and loved making beautiful snow angels.

Christopher and Ethan began to create their own snowman!

Murdo was building a ‘SNOW ICE TOWER!’

Gabby looking quite relaxed!

Eva, Amy, Sophia, Gabby and David creating wonderful snow angels!

Today Primary One enjoyed making memories with one another in the snow. Primary One are adamant they want the snow to be heavy tomorrow just like today! (Keep your fingers crossed everyone…!)

Toys

The boys and girls have been very excited to learn about toys in the past and present. They have come up with some super questions that we are going to try and answer over the course of the topic.

Here is a sample of our ideas:

  • What are toys made of?
  • How do you make teddies?
  • What were the toys from the olden days?
  • How do toys move?

We have been busy discussing and sharing experiences of our favourite toys and how we play with them. This afternoon we painted a picture of our favourite toy that we will put into our class toy box.

We also have our toy shop up and running designed by the pupils. They have been hard at work making labels to let their customers know how much toys cost and have thoroughly enjoyed playing the shopkeeper.

Christmas Fun!

We have enjoyed celebrating Christmas over the last week of school by completing many Christmas Crafts! Some are for ourselves and some were made to give to others. Here we used our hands to create hand prints to make our Santa Clause Card! We then cut out our own Santa hat and placed decorations on it.

We also used our hand prints to create our own Rudolf! We used glitter paint to create an effect of snow on our picture.

Primary 1c will enjoy using their personalised place mat at home, giving their crafty Christmas Tree card to someone and enjoy writing a message in their hand stamped Santa card.

On our last day in school, we spoke about our favourite times which have happened so far. Some responses included, going on out first school trip, making new friends, learning loads  of things like reading and writing. We said we will continue to work hard next year and enjoy and love school just as much as we did this year!

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year to you all!

Mrs Robertson’s last day!

Friday was a happy day in Primary 1 with our Christmas party but also sad as we all wished Mrs Robertson a happy retirement on her last day teaching! The boys and girls of Primary 1 made her a beautiful framed picture of a tree with all our fingerprints on it to remember us by and she was presented with this and a special book full of pictures every child had drawn of her with quotes saying why she is so special. Mrs Robertson was given presents from all the classes at a special assembly and we all sang her favourite songs.  Thank you Mrs Robertson for all your hard work and we will all miss you.

Carla and Findlay present Mrs Robertson with gifts from all of Primary 1. Mrs Robertson is dressed as an elf on her last day!

The teachers all sang a song to the children called ‘Our School’ which Mrs Robertson had written….and Primary 1 said they enjoyed it! You’ll be able to spot Primary 1 teachers easily with our elf costumes on!!

We also said goodbye to Miss Milne (student teacher) this week.

This is Miss Milne opening our advent calendar with Daisy, Alfie and Ibrahim. Each day different children open a door to find a Christmas ‘challenge.’ Alfie’s challenge was to sing ‘Jingle Bells’ to the office staff and he chose Findlay to accompany him. This was greatly enjoyed by the office staff! Other dares have been to do a Christmas mime, do star jumps while shouting ‘ho, ho, ho!’ Other children have pretended to be Santa and had to answer questions from the children, and some have been seen dancing round the room singing Christmas songs! It helps our reading skills as we have to try to read the challenge written on the slip of paper, helps build our confidence …..and it’s also good fun!

Here are other photos of us in class this week.

We’ve been learned to read the days of the week and order them. We had to cut and stick the words correctly.

Abu-Huraira is working hard!

We were pretending to look through the keyhole of Santa’s workshop.  We drew pictures and wrote about what we saw!

Writing about our class elf, Snowy, has also been helping our writing skills this week. We have an elf diary to write about where we find him every morning! He does get up to mischief!

We’ll let Omar and Findlay finish our post today…….Merry Christmas everyone!!

Our Christmas Party!

Today was such an exciting day for Primary One. We got to dress up in our christmas clothes, play christmas games, listen to music and dance with our friends. The most special thing which happened today was… MEETING SANTA! We hope Primary 1 had so much fun at their Christmas Party and and hope that they loved their present.

Here are some snaps of us enjoying our time altogether!

We played pass the parcel but there were so many layers until the winner got to the big prize! The suspense was making us too excited to see who it would land on. Although, if we had a layer to unwrap we were surprised by a chocolate Santa (yum!).

Mmmmmh yummy treats!

What a lovely way to end our Friday by seeing Santa and by receiving a present in front of our Mummies and Daddies!

Miss Ali planned lots of fun maths activities to consolidate our learning in maths. We had great fun and learned how important it is to work together as a team to solve problems.

Our classroom elf

On Friday 1st December, a very strange thing happened in Primary 1b. A special delivery arrived at our door.

It was addressed to the boys and girls in Primary 1b with a special sticker from Santa on it. It was very exciting and we could hardly sit down. We carried it carefully into the classroom to take a peek inside….

It had a special letter inside from SANTA!!!!!!

We listened very carefully as Mrs Denholm read the letter out loud. It said that Santa was so busy at this time of this year so he had sent a friend to help catch Primary 1b being good. It was a little elf ….

Mrs Denholm even had to put special magical gloves on that Santa had sent to pick the elf up. You are not allowed to touch the elf you see as he will lose his magic and will find it difficult to get back to the North Pole to report back to Santa.

We had to think of a name for our elf. We tried so hard to think of our most magical, Christmassy, festive names but i think we were just too excited to think. We carried out a vote and Frosty was the winner.

Our chosen elf name

We were very lucky as Santa had thought of everything. He sent us diaries to fill in about Frosty’s adventures, a dvd all about what the elves do at the North Pole, a special marking elf pen for Mrs Denholm and we even got to have a sneaky chocolate too!!

our elfish behaviour barometer

John and Jamie comparing chocolates

Our elf diaries

Can you believe Mrs Denholm even received a ‘Santa Cam’! That way Santa gets to watch us when he can and see all of the good behaviour and hard work we do in Primary 1.

A special visitor

Primary 1 have been enjoying learning all about people who help us. We had lots of questions about the police and were delighted when our Campus police office Mr Trainer came in to visit us.

Poor Miss MacAtear was nominated by the children to be arrested!

We had lots of super questions and found out lots of new facts!

We learnt about all of the different parts of Mr Trainer’s uniform.

Mr Trainer told us to make our silliest face for the photograph!
