As part of the Play on Pedals initiative the children have been practicing their cycling skills with Miss Shannon & Miss Carroll. They have been developing their gross motor and balance skills.
This week in the malleable area the children have extended their interest in making cakes with the playdough and opened their own cake shop. The children showed great creativity using loose parts to decorate their cakes and add different toppings and flavours. The children worked collaboratively and assumed different roles of shop keeper and customer and extended their play as they made their own money to use within their imaginative play. The children made positive attempts to represent elements of money and included elements of imagery, numerals, and writing within your mark making. The children were able to use the terminology of currency within their play using pounds, pence, and dollars.
BB “ Im making cry baby cakes, they are three dollars”
Freya “ I need your pounds, I’ve only got a twenty, here’s your five pounds, see you tomorrow”
Sc “ I use five p to dry my hair at the swimming”
EB “I need to cost it now so people know what to pay”
In the sewing area, the children have been developing their fine motor skills through weaving. They created their own weaving boards and resources and created different patterns and colours through their weaving.
The children also enjoyed a visit to see the their friends at Crookfur Cottages. They enjoyed chatting with them and sharing some of their favourite songs 🙂
