The children have continued to develop their oral storytelling skills in the literacy area. They have been proudly creating their own fantastic stories about fairies, dinosaurs and unicorns. We have been retelling their stories through drama. Listening and talking skills are being strengthened as they co-operate with others. As some of our friends will be moving onto school after the summer, we have been creating self-portraits and reflecting on our favourite things to do in the Family Centre
The children have been adding more detail to their creations through use of loose parts. The children have been adding measurements and numeracy to the planning of their building and using mathematical language to describe size.
This week the children have been learning how to use some of the woodwork tools safely. They focused on using a hammer and began by putting on their safety glasses independently. The children held the nails in place on the wood, which supported the development of their fine motor skills.
Using their hand–eye coordination and gross motor skills, they carefully hammered the nails into the wood. Some children noticed that their nails had bent during the process and used problem-solving skills to work out how to straighten them before continuing.
In the garden the children have been working collaboratively with their peers to create dens using the loose parts. The children have also been displaying great imagination and creativity in the outdoor sandpit as they created roads for the Monster trucks.
