Languages Week Scotland

To celebrate Language Week Scotland we have been inspired by the movie Encanto to learn some Spanish words. Some boys in girls in the class already knew some Spanish words and taught them to us too!

Some boys and girls in the class also enjoyed teaching us how to say hello in a language they speak at home. Thank you boys and girls!

We also learned about the meaning of valuing diversity in our community and enjoyed exploring and discussing everyone in the class’ culture. We are looking forward to continuing to learn about Valuing diversity in Barrhead.

Inspired by The Madrigals in Encanto we thought about how we could use a gift to help others. We created an imaginative diary entry. We also designed a door to reflect our chosen gifts. Here are our star writers! Although everyone in the class did so well, it was a hard choice!

Chinese New Year 🧧

Today to celebrate Chinese New Year we learned about how people around the world celebrate Chinese New Year. Some children shared their personal experiences. We also created a special drum that lots of people play to celebrate Chinese New Year! We learned that some people in China speak mandarin. We had a go at writing some mandarin symbols as it’s our right as a language learner to have a go!

John Shanks

We have enjoyed a special visit from a historian to tell us about John Shanks and his family. We loved looking through old Shanks & Co. Catalogues and looking at old maps of Barrhead. All the boys and girls were amazing at sharing everything we have learned. Today we were very fortunate to get a visit from a local artist who is helping us use what we’ve learned to create a decorated clay tile inspired by the work of Shanks & Co. The boys and girls can’t wait to bring them home to show their families!

Making Smoothies

We have been learning about food groups and the importance of a healthy diet. We have already been learning about instructional writing so we decided to created a recipe for a healthy smoothie. We used our recipe cards this afternoon to create make a smoothie! We leave red to safely chop fruit and blend it together to make a drink. Some boys and girls also tried new fruit for the first time such as, pineapple and watermelon. They really enjoyed it! This week we have been looking at how maths is all around us for Maths Week Scotland. We noticed we had to use our maths skills to measure the correct amount of juice (200ml) to add to our smoothie. Some boys and girls discovered that when all the fruit and juice was blended together there was 400ml of liquid in the blender. Well done! We also had to count the fruit as it went into the blender. Kameron was also trying to cut his fruit into shapes.
