The Riverside Museum

We had great fun on our trip last week!

When we got to the Riverside Museum we first got to dress up as a member of the Police, Ambulance or Fire Service and get a closer look at the vehicles they use to help us. We then created our own lollipop sticks and had a go at using them on the Toucan crossing before exploring on our own. We enjoyed the street from the past best as we got to see inside some old fashioned shops.

We stopped by the ‘café’ but there was no ice cream on offer so we stopped by the underground for a rest.

Some of us couldn’t quite reach the pedals so we worked together as a team.

Sorting the shoes in the shoe shop!

We were lucky enough to be passing when the Postman was and he was kind enough to chat to us about where he takes the post and how it ends up at the correct address.

Symmetry

This month we have been learning about symmetry and have created some of our own patterns on butterflies, looked for symmetry in nature during muddy movers and created symmetrical patterns using the Hama beads.

Potato Planting and Den Building

We have had great fun recently working with our buddies on a variety of task and challenges.  This week we worked together in teams to create dens big enough to fit our group.

We have also been learning about living things and the ways we change as we grow. As part of this topic we have planted potatoes and will be watching closely to see how big they become!

First we had to fill our tub with soil.

Then we dug some holes to put our potatoes into.

After that we had to place them carefully, we had to make sure they weren’t too close together.

We hope they will be ready before the end of term!

March

What a busy month we have had! We were lucky enough to have several visitors come and talk to us about their jobs so a big thank you to these parents.  We had great fun hearing all about what they do to help people, as well as getting to have a go with some props!

We have also been learning about using tally marks and some of us decided to create a zoo and count how many animals we had.

During our visit with Barrhead Fire Station we got to have a go at the hoses, and as well as showing us the tools they use we got to have a seat in the fire engine!

At muddy movers this month we have been looking for signs of Spring. We found some wiggly worms in the mud as well as spotting some daffodils and other small plants beginning to grow. We also looked for fractions within nature- trying to find two halves of natural items.

Wishing everyone a lovely Easter Break, I can’t wait to hear what you all get up to!

February

What a busy month we have had!  A big thank you to everyone who was able to take time out of their day to attend our open afternoon. The class loved being able to share their learning and show off their classroom. Lots of our activities and targets were based around our old topic, looking at different countries all around the world.

Some children made globes.

The children have loved looking at the flags of the world and trying to remember the names of each country.

Our fine motor area has been used to create various continents.

Our new topic is ‘people who help us’ and we are so excited and grateful to those who have responded with offers to come in and tell us a little bit about what they do, we can’t wait to report back!

This month we also attended our very first XA Factor talent show, we loved seeing all the wonderful things other year groups can do, and our very own Penny took part showing her Highland Dancing!
