Christmas party and working with p7

Primary 1.2 have had a great day.

First we took part in a sleigh making challenge with primary 7. We needed to build a sleigh out of construction materials that could hold Santa and 2 presents. Everyone worked very well with their team mates and they all successfully completed the challenge.

Primary 1.2 had a great time at their Christmas party and loved meeting Santa!

December

P1.2 have had a lovely December. Taking part in the Nativity was a highlight, the boys and girls all did so well.

During Muddy Movers, we enjoyed some warm juice outside when the weather was really cold.

A reindeer broke into our classroom this month and left his snowy footprints all over the classroom. We enjoyed writing about what happened.

November Blog

Primary 1.2 enjoyed a visit to the library to take part in a Book Bug session during Book Week Scotland. Everyone took home their own book and we enjoyed playing the activities in the class.

Primary 1.2 took part in designing the whole school calendar. We chose to do the month March with a spring theme and everyone created their own flower.

We’ve been busy making crafts for the Christmas Fayre next Saturday. Primary 1 chose to make advent candles and we made our own candle holders out of clay. Once they were dry we painted them and we will now set a price ready for them to be sold!

All the boys and girls were excited to wear their pyjamas to school for Children in Need! Everyones donations raised lots of money for a good cause. We enjoyed taking part in the activities in the gym hall and had the opportunity to buy something from the sale.

Lots of the children have taken an interest in other countries and flags this month. We’ve decided we’d like to start learning more about how people live in different countries and how they celebrate things.

We’ve been very excited getting ready for Christmas celebrations in primary 1.2! The children have been inspired to write letters to Santa asking for a class elf, the letters have been posted and the children are eagerly waiting to find out what will happen!

The children are enjoying taking part in a ‘Play Project’ on Fridays. At the end of each morning we all sit together and shared what we’ve created that day.

During Outdoor Learning, we’ve been trying to build things really high. The children are using some excellent problem solving skills and working together to create large structures.

On Remembrance Day, the children learned about why people wear poppies. They were interested in trying to create their own.

We made soup together and everyone had a go at chopping and peeling vegetables before we all sat down together to enjoy our soup!

We’ve had a very busy November, but the most exciting thing was Santa’s Reindeer’s coming to visit us! Everyone fed a carrot to the reindeer and we took some pictures together in the sleigh.

The children met with their P5 buddies to enjoy some Halloween games in P.E. We’ve also been taking part in ball control games in P.E and have been learning how to dribble with a basketball!

Last week the children enjoyed taking part in a Tae Kwondo taster session.

Our new topic is animals. We’ve been learning about animals that hibernate and animals that don’t. We’ve been exploring how this is linked to the seasons changing as we moved from Summer to Autumn.

In art, we have been learning about an artist Jackson Pollock and how he creates art on a big piece of paper on the floor. We used conkers and paint to try and re-create some of his art work.

As a class, we’re very interested in art at the moment and lots of us have been exploring with junk modelling and making stories. We love to take part in show and tell, showing all our creations to the class.

On Fridays, we’ve started new ‘Play Projects’. Every week we each pick an individual project and we need to build, make, write and draw something for our project. At the end of the day we show the class what we’ve created. The children have loved taking part so far during last weeks challenge “create a way to blow away the leaves” and this week’s project: “My spooky Halloween project”.

September in P1.2

Primary 1.2 have had lots of fun learning new things this month. We have all settled in really well and know our school routines really well.

We have enjoyed using our new playdough station where we can practise ‘dough disco’ to work on our fine motor skills.

We also have a new block area outside the classroom that we share with Primary 1.1. We enjoy socialising with our friends and building larger construction items.

In the art area, we have been learning new techniques in the junk modelling. Thank you for donating your recycling! We have loved creating robots, vehicles and binoculars.

In Art, we learned about the primary colours and had fun creating colour mixing posters.

In Health and Wellbeing we talked about how to manage our emotions. We read the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and discussed what different emotions the monster had. We then acted out some strategies for dealing with our feelings and emotions and created a class feelings check in.

In Muddy Movers, Primary 1.2 have been exploring water, balance and movement. We have also been building castles, inspired by our Fairytale topic. This week we invited our Primary 5 buddies to come and join us! We also found some blackberries in the Muddy Movers area and enjoyed a tasty snack.

Welcome to P1.2!

Primary 1.2 have settled in very well to their new school and classroom and enjoyed making lots of friends.

We’ve discussed our class charter and how to be kind and safe friends, and everyone drew their picture to add.

We’ve begun learning our sounds and are having fun practising these when doing our targets.

We really enjoy reading stories and creating our own in Drawing Club and have come up with some fantastic ideas.

We have enjoyed exploring the classroom environment. There is an Art area, Sand pit, Construction, Literacy, Numeracy, Home corner, and STEM area. The construction and Home areas have been particularly popular and provide opportunities for children to further develop their skills, and build new friendships. Some of the children had fun creating their own McDonald’s and Burger King with sign posts.

We had a very wet first Muddy Movers and the children enjoyed splashing in the puddles, and pouring water.
