Maths 🧮

In Maths we are learning how to use directions.  We have started using the bee bots to code them with the correct directions to play games and go to certain places.  We are continuing to challenge ourselves within this area depending on our confidence with left and right, up and down, backward and forwards.

New Trim Trail ☀️

We started building our confidence for Primary 3 by visiting the new trim trail in the p3,4,5,6,7 playground.  When we are in the upper school playground we will have a day to play on the trim trail.  We loved it so much!!

In writing we learned how to identify a fact and an opinion. We created facts about the trim trail such as: it is made of wood and it has green ropes.  We also wrote opinions of the trim trail such as: it was tricky or it was easy! We can’t wait to visit again soon.

Items  from the Past 🧸

For our Interdisciplinary Topic we are learning how to explore and research items and toys from the past.  We explored some really old objects and tried to work out what they would have been used for.  We are so excited to research more items and discover some history from years gone by.

Our Values 💕

In Religious and Moral Education we are deepening our understanding of our morals and our values.  We looked closer at leadership and what it means to be  leader.  We looked at images of King Charles visiting Donald Trump and discussed them as leaders. We read a special book called If I Were the Prime Minister.  We wrote and drew what we would do if we were Prime Minister.

Symmetry 🦋

We are also learning how to identify symmetry and create symmetrical pictures.  We used objects to create symmetrical images.  We then created symmetrical pictures using the marker pens.

March 2026

Science 🧪

We have been learning how to investigate and research Forces. We have investigated friction, magnetism, gravity and air resistance. We really loved designing our own magnetic maze games  🧲

Walk Scoot and Cycle  🚲

We enjoyed taking part in Walk Scoot Cycle! We love being active and being outside! 🛴 🚲 🏃‍♀️

Red Nose Day ♥️

We helped to raise over £300 for Red Nose Day!

Eid 🌙 ⭐️
We are widening our understanding of world religions. We enjoyed being creative to help us learn all about Eid. We designed prayer mats, created symmetrical mosques, researched the 5 pillars of Islam and made Eid cards.

Weight and Measure ⚖️

We are learning how to measure the weight and mass of different items. We know that we use grams and kilograms as a unit of measuring weight. We know that there are 1000g in 1kg. We can identify the grams on different groceries. We are learning how to weigh using analogue, digital and balance scales. We enjoyed feeling what 1kg felt like using the weights.

World Book Day 📚🦊

We had a great time celebrating World Book Day (we made it World Book week) in March by listening to and working on Fantastic Mr Fox 🦊

First we learned about alliteration.

Then we used what we had been learning about the different characters in the story to write a character description.

After that we discussed how the farmers were feeling and we created ‘wanted’ posters for Mr Fox.

We enjoyed using the puppets in the theatre to retell parts of the story.

Finally, we made fox masks and recreated the fantastic feast from the book by chopping fruit and making fruit kebabs.

We were delighted to receive our World Book Day books and we enjoyed reading them in class.

🌟Solo Talks🌟

WOW! What a lot of hard work and preparation went into solo talks this week. I LOVED listening to all your wonderful presentations and learning lots about you and your interests. You all spoke confidently and clearly and everyone demonstrated excellent listening skills with lots of appropriate questions being asked. Well done Primary 2 🌟👏

January 2026

To celebrate Burns Day we explored The Gruffalo in Scots. We translated the Scot’s words using the original version of the gruffalo to help us. After, we learned how to draw the Gruffalo! 🌲 🐭 🐍

We have been enjoying learning how to speak Mandarin in the Mandarin Classroom with our mandarin teacher from China 🇨🇳  We are learning how to explore a culture which is different to our own.  We have been celebrating the year of the house for Chinese New Year. 🐴  🐉 🇨🇳  ✨

In Science we are learning how to investigate sound. So far, we have researched the human ear and can name the main parts of the ear. We also experimented sound vibrations using rice and instruments. When we made the loud noises we could see the rice jumping up with the vibrations.  It was fun making so much noise!! 🥁 🍚 🎶

December 2025🎄

Lots of fun has been had this month in Primary 2.
We worked really hard on our Nativity which turned out absolutely fantastic! You were all super stars 🌟 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Santa’s reindeer and a couple of friendly elves came to visit. 🦌🦌

We all had a great time at our party, especially when Santa came and told us we have been so good this year 🎅🎁

A huge thank you to Rory’s mum who sent in lovely Christmas ornaments for us to decorate 🎨

Finally, look at these amazing identical pictures the girls designed together 💖

Children in Need 🐻 💛

We had so much fun celebrating and fundraising for Children in Need!

.

Art 🎨

In Art we have been learning how to apply colour and pattern. We have been working really hard in art to create work which explore specific artist elements. We enjoyed listening to the story ‘My Mum and Dad make me Laugh’ by Nick Sharratt to inspire us with how to use spots and stripes in our art work. We also enjoyed ‘Fish Patterns’ to help us learn about creating different types of patterns. We love using the watercolours to create beautiful art work.

Religious and Moral Education 💟

In RME we have been learning how to deepen our understanding of belief. We have also been learning how to explore religions around the world. We have been researching Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism and Hinduism.  Some children were brilliant leaders of learning by sharing what they know about their own religions and what they do to practise their belief.

Happy 60th Birthday Cross Arthurlie 🎂

We had so much fun swinging back to the 60s to celebrate 60 years of Cross Arthurlie Primary School.
we enjoyed learning about life in the 60s and taking part in a House Quiz all about the 60s. We learned that:

  • Toys started being made of plastic in the 60s
  • The Beetles ruled the music world!
  • Fashion was a big deal and people started exploring fashion in new ways!
  • Lego and the original etch-e-sketch were the most popular Christmas toys in 1965.
  • The first colour tv was invented

October 2025

What a busy October we have had! 🍂
We went a walk to learn about houses and different buildings in our local area. We used a checklist and made notes to record what we saw.

Afterwards we all helped to construct a 3D cardboard construction of our walk.

We love playing with our 3D Barrhead map.

In Numeracy we have started learning about numbers up to 100 and we have been doing lots of measuring and creating patterns.

In Literacy we wrote magical Halloween spells 🪄🎃👻 Using bullet points to list the ingredients and bossy verbs in the instructions. We had some brave volunteers read their magic spells out to the class 👏🌟

Happy Halloween everyone, I hope you all have a great weekend 🎃👻

Primary 2🌟🌟

What a great start we’ve all had in Primary 2 🌟🌟

In Literacy we’ve started learning about proper letter formation, the alphabet, spelling and sentence structure.

In Numeracy we have been working on addition and subtraction, numbers to 30, days of the week, months of the year and we’ve been learning to set calculations out in our jotters.

We have also had fun making birthday cards for our friends, writing a class promise to each other and creating fabulous art work!

Just a wee reminder that our PE day is Monday and our Outdoor Learning is on a Wednesday. Please provide children with a spare set of clothes, especially socks, on a Wednesday just in case we get wet and muddy.

Thank you,

Mrs Brown
