September 2025

Thank you to all our visitors who came to Open Afternoon. We loved showing off our great work and having you help us with some targets.

In Numeracy we have been learning to count in odd and even numbers, adding a single digit to 10 and lots more adding and subtracting. We particularly enjoyed playing a subtraction game with our friends.

In Literacy we are working on reading and spelling common and tricky words, the alphabet, reading aloud, sentence structure and correct letter formation with neat handwriting.

Our topic just now is Our Local Area. Everyone was keen to draw what they could see from our big playground and asked if we could go for a walk. So next Tuesday morning we’re off on a walk around the local area. We will be looking at different types of houses, shops and land use.

Finally we have been very busy celebrating Maths Week Scotland. We learned what infinity means ♾️ Then used the mascot Finn Finity and created our own shape character and number character to write a wild adventure story. Every story is AMAZING! Here is page 1 of a few of our stories:

Primary 2🌟🌟

What a great start we’ve all had in Primary 2 🌟🌟

In Literacy we’ve started learning about proper letter formation, the alphabet, spelling and sentence structure.

In Numeracy we have been working on addition and subtraction, numbers to 30, days of the week, months of the year and we’ve been learning to set calculations out in our jotters.

We have also had fun making birthday cards for our friends, writing a class promise to each other and creating fabulous art work!

Just a wee reminder that our PE day is Monday and our Outdoor Learning is on a Wednesday. Please provide children with a spare set of clothes, especially socks, on a Wednesday just in case we get wet and muddy.

Thank you,

Mrs Brown

Space Day!

On Friday, Primary 1.2 spent the day learning all about space.  We learned:

  • The names of the planets in our solar system
  • What gravity is
  • That the sun is a big star
  • How the earth turns and moves around the sun.

All our targets were space themed. We did some space data handling, designed a badge for a space mission and made our own rockets.

April

Just before we broke up for Easter, Primary 1 enjoyed an Easter egg hunt outside. It was lovely sunny weather.

In Maths we have started learning about data handling. The children have enjoyed learning how to record information and write tally marks.

The children enjoyed writing about their Easter holidays this week and did some lovely work.

March

Primary 1 have been very excited for the start of spring

We enjoyed going on a nature walk to find all the signs of spring.

In science, we have been learning about how sound is caused by vibration and movement.  We all had a go at creating our own musical instruments by using cardboard, elastic bands and beads.

We all enjoyed taking part in activities for Red Nose. Day. We especially enjoyed the egg and spoon race and showed great balancing skills!

February

Primary 1.2 have had a great February.

We’ve been able to delve even further into our topic of beliefs and celebrations by exploring Chinese New Year. We made our own paper lanterns and Chinese vases.

We’ve also been busy learning about different people in our communities and different jobs. We’ve had lots of visitors come to tell us about their work which has been the highlight of the month!

In Maths we’ve been learning using Blue Bots to help learn about direction. We have been trying to write our own set of instructions so our friends can guide them around maps.

January

January has been a busy and exciting month in Primary 1!

In PE, we’ve started gymnastics, which has been very popular.  Everyone has been giving balancing, rolling, and jumping a go – it’s been great to see some new skills mastered.

We started our new topic this month which is all about celebrations. After learning about New Year’s Eve, we’ve been discussing  other special occasions that people celebrate and the different things we believe in. There’s been lots of sharing about our own experiences, and we’re looking forward to learning more about celebrations from around the world.

In health and wellbeing, we’ve been talking about people who help us, like doctors, firefighters, and paramedics. The children loved learning about emergency vehicles and they worked in teams to design and create their own out of construction materials.

We also celebrated Robert Burns this week by learning a little about his life and enjoying some Scots songs. The highlight was definitely making our own shortbread.

Christmas party and working with p7

Primary 1.2 have had a great day.

First we took part in a sleigh making challenge with primary 7. We needed to build a sleigh out of construction materials that could hold Santa and 2 presents. Everyone worked very well with their team mates and they all successfully completed the challenge.

Primary 1.2 had a great time at their Christmas party and loved meeting Santa!

December

P1.2 have had a lovely December. Taking part in the Nativity was a highlight, the boys and girls all did so well.

During Muddy Movers, we enjoyed some warm juice outside when the weather was really cold.

A reindeer broke into our classroom this month and left his snowy footprints all over the classroom. We enjoyed writing about what happened.
