Chinese New Year πŸ‰πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡

Today we celebrated Chinese New Year. We enjoyed listening to the story of the Chinese New Year Animal Race. Β We learned that the rabbit came fourth in the race and that this year is the year of the rabbit. πŸ‡

We also learned that to celebrate the New Year, Chinese people make and light paper lanterns, clean their houses, join in dragon dances, watch firework displays, eat together as a family to name just a few things.

We made our own paper lantern pictures using tissue paper and then made a black silhouette rabbit to finish it off. We think they all look fantastic.

December fun πŸŽ„

In French, we learned to say Merry Christmas πŸŽ„Β and used our new vocabulary to make a Christmas card for our families.

We also learned how to say lots of colours in french and used this new knowledge to colour a Christmas picture.

During muddy movers we loved exploring and playing with the frost and ice.

Finally, I’d like to say a huge well done to each and everyone of Primary 2/2 for their fabulous nativity performance. I think you’re all superstars 🌟❀️

Directions

We have been learning to describe, follow and record routes. We have been giving and following oral directions including right and left turns through right angles. We now know a right angle has 90 degrees. We can write instructions for a route and program BeeBot to follow our directions.

Christmas Party! πŸŽ„πŸŽ…

We had a fantastic time at our Christmas party! We played musical statues (well done on being one of the winners Arlo!), pass the parcel (which had a little surprise as the prize, mwahaha) and got some yummy snacks. We even had a special visit from Santa Claus AND he said we could all have one of our Christmas presents early! What a great way to finish our first term!

Happy Holidays!

December with Miss Smith 🐱🐝

Wow wee, it’s Christmas time already! How did that happen? P2/2 have continued to work super hard in class and certainly deserve their holiday!

In Numeracy, we have looked at our number bonds all the way to 20 and can now explain what the greater than and less than signs (><) mean. You can even see in one of the pictures that someone made the signs using Tens columns! We all think the signs look like Munching Crunching Crocodiles because the big number is always by the mouth! We also had some excellent patterns of flags after the World Cup had finished and some domino towers.

Β  Β

In Literacy,Β  we have been continuing to work on our sounds and tricky words. We have been revising adjectives and the different ways we can describe something, look at our adjectives for Mr Christmas Tree! We’ve been working so hard in our writing by creating sets of instructions, fact files about how we use our senses and the inventors that we have looked at in topic. We have even written stories about why Santa was stuck up the chimney and about a cheeky reindeer who snuck into our classroom!

In Topic, we have been finishing our Scotland topic and have spent the last few weeks looking at the different inventors from Scotland. The class particularly enjoyed learning about John Logie Baird since he invented the TV! We also researched Alexander Graham Bell and Alexander Flemming, made notes and then used our notes to fill out fact files. Did you know Alexander Graham Bell’s mum was deaf so he was inspired to become a teacher for children with hearing difficulties? AND that Alexander Flemming made penicillin by accident? We couldn’t believe it! Finally we designed and made our own inventions, you can see a fantastic flying car in our pictures.

Finally, our Nativity was a huge success and we were all so excited to show you all our hard work! We have some budding Hollywood stars, I really couldn’t be more proud of how hard they worked for the nativity. Well done to all of the pupils!

Not only is it the end of the month, it’s the end of a year and the end of term 1! I hope you all have a happy holiday period and relax, you deserve it after all the hard work in term 1! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, see you in 2023!

November with Miss Smith 🐱🐝

Wow. Another month done and dusted, how quick did that go?! We’ve continued to be super busy in p2/2, take a look at what we’ve been doing!

In numeracy, we’ve been looking at our numbers to 100, including counting in tens and units, counting quantities of pasta (which Miss Smith is still finding in her bags😱) and recapping our number names. I love seeing the confidence of the children grow in numeracy, and like I always say, ‘if it’s new and tricky, it’ll be easier tomorrow and even easier the next day.’

We have been busy practising our spelling and writing skills in literacy. We learned about what adjectives are and designed our own monster to help us practice describing. We’ve been practicing our tricky words and using them in sentences. Recently we made fruit kebabs to help us Β write instructions and they made Miss Smith super hungry! We discussed healthy foods and how we can make our own perfect fruit kebabs.

In Health and Wellbeing, we focussed on passing games and began to look at fitness in PE. We looked at sequencing steps and different races. We played trucks and trailers, tunnel tig and mirrors. In PSE we have looked at emotions and discussed when we have felt emotions like courage.

Β Β

We have also been working super hard on our Nativity which we cannot wait to show you all! I cannot wait to see where they all get to before Christmas!

Book Week Scotland

We all had a fantastic day celebrating Book Week Scotland. We enjoyed snuggling up with our teddies and cosy jumpers to read our books with Primary 7.

We have been learning about giving and following directions and programming BeeBot with directions so we showed off our skills and taught out teddies how to do it too. πŸ»πŸ’œ

Celebrating Sukkot

We have been learning about the Jewish festival Sukkot. We learned that a sukkah is a hut that is built for the week-long festival where Jewish families gather to eat, pray and spend time together and some even sleep inside their sukkah. The roof of the sukkah is topped with branches and inside is decorated with harvest or autumnal themes. Jewish families celebrate Sukkot in remembrance to their ancestors, who were freed from slavery in Egypt.Β  (ARTICLEΒ  24 and 30)

Zak had a great idea to build a sukkah during Muddy Movers. We all helped make paper chains and autumnal leaf mobiles to decorate inside. πŸΒ πŸ‚Β πŸƒ

Up to October with Miss Smith 🐱🐝

I cannot believe how fast this term is flying by! October holidays are approaching and we’ve all been super busy in p2/2 😎

Literacy has been a very busy area for us! We’ve been practicing handwriting, starting to look at how we can write instructions and learning all of our new sounds. We have a sound book that we can add words to when we hear them elsewhere. ‘Tiny Teacher’ will now become a weekly part of our literacy recap on Fridays because all of the children were so happy having one of their friends picking who could answer and helping spell the words with our ‘qu’ sound. The children have also been practicing all of their sounds by playing games like ‘Secret Words.’

In numeracy, we have been celebrating Maths Week Scotland! This ran from Sept. 26 until Oct. 2 and allowed us to look at several interesting aspects of maths! Our favourite part of maths week was learning about the artist Kandinsky and the colourful circles he created! Kandinsky noticed that shapes and maths were everywhere, so we spotted as many shapes as we could in our classroom, like our rectangular door and square window! We created our own Kandinsky circles and I must say, Kandinsky himself would be proud of these! Here are some of ours…

We also have been recapping a lot of pattern work and looking at solving mazes this week. Everyone even showed me the fantastic time work they’ve been doing with Mrs Brown ⏰! Mazes were a really fun part of maths this week, even if some of them were a little tricky! But we all remembered our Health and Wellbeing lessons and changed our ‘I can’t’ statements into ‘I can’t right now, but I’ll try it!’

We have been talking a lot about adding and subtracting calculations to make sure we remember what the signs look like, what they mean and what happens when we use them. Everybody is always keen to show me what the signs look like and we’ve had some very creative ways to show them with our whole bodies or our arms βž•βž–πŸŸ°

In topic we have started looking more at maps and the symbols that they have on them. We started by listening to the story ‘We Are Going On A Bear Hunt’ and creating our own maps to go along with the story.

We’re continuing to work on our signs and symbols Β by doing some more match up and recap work. As always, we love Lego in this class so our Tuff Tray has been a building site! We have made detached houses, semi-detached houses and a whole village!

As well as this, we have loved having Camembear in our class! Camembear has been so helpful by teaching us the numbers up to 10. Our class worry monster Flower James Honey (we put our top names in a hat and picked three at random), was even getting some lessons from Camembear and our Tiny French Teachers.

Health and wellbeing has been very fun this term. We have been doing lots of passing games in PE and continue to look at our emotions. We have been having very interesting group conversations about who we can talk to when we have big feelings and what we can do to help ourselves. A common answer was a cuddle from their adult, and I must say I totally agree 😊

What an exciting time we have been having in our classroom! I hope everyone has a lovely October break when it comes ❀️
