Primary 5 took part in some fun activities to celebrate World Book Day. We started the day with an emoji quiz  to guess the book title. Later we did some book themed Maths problems and worked in teams to be first finished.  In the afternoon we joined our buddies for some active games outside with a book twist. We also took part in a scavenger hunt with  P1 in the playground. Next we finished the afternoon by reading stories to our buddies by torchlight. 🔦

As part of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel study Primary 5 was tasked with working in groups to create a 20 second advertisement to persuade people to buy their newly invented chocolate bars or sweet treats! 🍫  The children worked together to decide on their chosen product and then used sticky notes to create a storyboard of ideas for their advert. They then rehearsed their script before filming their final adverts.

This term we have been learning how to order food and drinks in a French café. Today we had the chance to practise our speaking through role play by ordering items from a menu and using euros to pay our bill. We also used an app called Chatterpics on the iPads to record our voices ordering from the cafe. We also played games on the chromebooks to consolidate the vocabulary we have been learning.

This term in PE we have been practising our skills in gymnastics including various rolls, jumps and balances. It is clear to see we have lots of confident gymnasts in our class. We have had to demonstrate good teamwork to ensure we all work together to keep everyone safe whilst using the equipment. Below you can see some examples of us in action.

We got together with our P1 buddies again this week to create some  artwork to celebrate Valentine’s. We listened to the story of Love Monster and then the Primary 5 children helped their young buddies to draw  and paint their own love monster. It is always great to see how kind and supportive the Primary 5s are towards the younger children.

Today we had a lesson with our Mandarin teacher to teach us about the importance of Chinese New Year. It was interesting to learn about how the festival is celebrated. We have also entered a competition to design posters celebrating Chinese New Year. This year is the year of the horse. Those born in the year of the horse are believed to be energetic, independent and have an adventurous nature. Below you can see some of our competition entries.

Well done Primary 5 for making such a great effort to take part in Crazy Hair Day! We had lots of people with a change of hair colour including red, green, purple and blue. We also had a few mohawk styles, crimped hair, glittery hair and even some Christmas lights! Well done to all who took part and thank you for the generous donations.

We had a special visitor in Primary 5 this morning. Mr Paul O’Kane our local MSP visited our class to announce a runner up in his annual Christmas card competition. Well done to Eva Kenny whose card was selected as a winning entry! 👏.  Eva’s fantastic artwork is displayed on Mr O’Kane’s Christmas card to be sent out to many across the country.

Well done Primary 5 for putting in a great performance this evening taking us back to the 1960s. It was fun to see everyone looking so colourful! Well done to all the speakers, dancers and of course the singers. Hopefully we helped our audience feel a little more festive. 🎄

Earlier in the day we had a lovely visit from Santa’s reindeer. It was great to welcome them to our school once again. We enjoyed having the chance to pat them and feed them carrots. 🥕 They should be very well nourished for their important role later in the month. #15moresleeps!
