Congratulations to our talented artists who were placed in the Neilston Show Art competition. Our class entered the contest to design a poster for the theme of A Day at the Neilston Show! We were delighted to learn that Blair Martin was awarded 2nd place overall and both Fraser Waddell and Grace McAleese received highly commended awards! Well done!

This week in PE we were practising skills for badminton. Since the shuttlecock can be tricky to control we practised, first of all, with balloons. It was lovely to see all the balloons in the air as we practised using our rackets.

This term our artwork has been inspired by Spanish artists. We have been looking closely at the art of Salvador Dali and Antonio Gaudi. Below you can see a selection of our Elephants inspired by Dali and our mosaics inspired by Gaudi.

Today we had lots of fun celebrating Red Nose Day whilst raising money for great causes. In the class we had our joke off contest which was just so funny! 😆  Our class winner was Arlo. 👏🏻 We also did an anagram challenge and wordsearch for Comic Relief. Later we had fun in the hall trying out some challenges organised by our House Captains. Finally we took part in a class dance.

Today we had a visit from our campus cop, P.C. Lorraine, as part of our learning about Crime and Punishment. P.C. Lorraine told us the duties of a police officer and the training involved in becoming a police officer. She also explained about all the specialisms there are in the police force e.g. detective work or working with police dogs. We had lots of questions for P.C. Lorraine which she kindly answered which helped us understand better the role of a police officer.

Today we enjoyed a fantastic day at Glasgow Science Centre. We learned about electricity ⚡️ in the Lab and got hands-on to test materials to check to see if they were conductors or insulators. We also built our own circuits and had time to explore each of the three floors where we had fun with  all the interactive exhibits.

Primary 5 took part in some fun activities to celebrate World Book Day. We started the day with an emoji quiz  to guess the book title. Later we did some book themed Maths problems and worked in teams to be first finished.  In the afternoon we joined our buddies for some active games outside with a book twist. We also took part in a scavenger hunt with  P1 in the playground. Next we finished the afternoon by reading stories to our buddies by torchlight. 🔦

As part of our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory novel study Primary 5 was tasked with working in groups to create a 20 second advertisement to persuade people to buy their newly invented chocolate bars or sweet treats! 🍫  The children worked together to decide on their chosen product and then used sticky notes to create a storyboard of ideas for their advert. They then rehearsed their script before filming their final adverts.

Bonjour!
This term we have been learning how to order food and drinks in a French café. Today we had the chance to practise our speaking through role play by ordering items from a menu and using euros to pay our bill. We also used an app called Chatterpics on the iPads to record our voices ordering from the cafe. We also played games on the chromebooks to consolidate the vocabulary we have been learning.
