Congratulations to Innis Adams who has recently achieved green belt at his martial arts club, Junior I-Kickers. Well done Innis and thank you for sharing with the class. You spoke very clearly and were very knowledgeable. 👏
Science
We have been learning about air resistance and making predictions about what will fall faster and why. We made paper cones and dropped them at the same height but each cone had a different area size. We went outside to create air resistance using our jackets too.
Our final challenge was to design a parachute that would create air resistance.
Health and Wellbeing
Today we were learning to use our sensory descriptors to describe food tastes and textures. Some left a very sour taste in our mouth!
Happy New Year
Primary 5 have settled well into the new term. We have been learning about new year traditions around the world and have also been learning about Chinese New Year. During Art we have created some lovely posters to show our knowledge of Mandarin and Chinese New Year, and these have been entered into a national competition. A few of our posters can be seen below:
We started the year off with a couple of weeks of Fitness sessions in PE but have now moved onto Gymnastics. We are lucky to have some skilled gymnasts in our class who regularly attend classes outside of school. It has been fun to have the Kelvin Frame and other equipment out where we have been practising a range of skills including, balancing, climbing, rolls, and jumps.
In Mathematics the pupils in the Diamonds have been learning all about fractions. We can identify fractions, find fractions of amounts and find equivalences. We often complete tasks on the chromebooks to practise our skills or complete work in our jotters. The task below shows a group task where we were using our knowledge of fractions to complete jigsaws.
In Literacy we have started our class novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have also been having a focus on poetry in writing and had good fun thinking of lots of Scots words when writing poems in the Scots language. In fact the bonnie wee lads and lassies in P5 did a braw job of their poems!
Christmas Art
Primary 5 enjoyed a Buddying session with their little friends in Primary One yesterday. We helped the boys and girls in Primary 1 to create some Christmas Art. Together we created Christmas trees using chalks and pastels. It is always lovely to see how supportive the class are with the younger children.
Have a look at some of the finished art work.
Christmas Party
Primary 5 had a great time at their party! Dancing and lots of games.
Santa’s Reindeer Visit XA 🎅
Today we had a lovely treat as we got a special visit from Santa’s reindeer. We all got the opportunity to pat them and to feed them carrots. We thought it was lovely how the weather was cold and crisp for their visit.
Basketball
This term we have been focusing on Basketball skills in PE. We have practised shooting, passing and dribbling through lots of warm up games and drills and have been competing in small sided team games.
Autumn Art 🍂
Today we went into the playground and collected leaves. 🍁 We looked for interesting shapes and drew around these to make a stencil from card. We then placed our stencil on black paper and used pastels around the outline. When we lifted the stencils away we were left with beautiful results. Below is some examples of our artwork.
Children in Need
Primary 5 enjoyed wearing their pyjamas and Pudsey accessories to school today and raising money for a great cause. We had good fun trying out the challenges in the gym hall such as Beat the Goalie and the balloon challenge.
